Who: Ian Gallagher and Isak Valtersen
What: You’re cute!
When: Wednesday
Where: Starbucks and around town?
Warnings: Flirting. Some language.
Status: Closed/Gdoc; to be continued in comments.
He’d had a few days to get used to it, but it was still weird not having any memories from before last Saturday. Ian had been able to piece together some things about his life - he knew his name, he knew he was seventeen, where he lived, what classes he was taking in school, and that he had a girlfriend named Dawn Summers - but he still didn’t actually remember any of it, and some of it felt very weird. Over the past few days he’d found that he liked Dawn and they were becoming good friends, but he wasn’t sure that he liked her , liked her. All the evidence pointed to her being his girlfriend before they’d lost their memories, so he assumed that those feelings would grow in time, but they weren’t there yet.
This afternoon he was out exploring the town alone. He passed a shop with a sign that said ‘Starbucks’ and couldn’t ignore the delicious smells coming from inside as the door opened, so he stopped and went in. He ordered a vanilla latte, and looked around as he was waiting for his coffee.
He saw another boy waiting who appeared to be about the same age. He was a bit shorter than Ian, with wavy dark blonde hair. Ian looked over at him and nodded a greeting. “Hey.”
The barista held out a cup and called out a name. Ian hadn’t heard it clearly, but he could see that the name written on the cup started with “I” so he assumed it was his and reached out for it, only for his hand to brush against the hand of the other boy who was also reaching for it.
“Oh, sorry!” Ian pulled his hand back as if he’d been shocked. “I thought it was mine.” He said, a blush rising on his pale skin.

This was definitely something weird going on. Isak couldn't for the life of him remember anything about himself. From his ID that he found, he knew what his name was, how old he was, where he currently lived, and that he was from Norway. But he seemed to be fluent in English and could understand it fine, so he guess he'd been living in America for awhile. But not long enough to lose his accent.
He had been wandering around town when he came across Starbucks. Deciding to get a drink and a snack, he headed inside and stood in line. He didn't talk to anyone, other than the guy his age with red hair. Another odd thing he noticed was that he never really looked at girls but other guys, he had thoughts like 'he's good looking' and he wasn't sure why. Like the guy beside him, he had those thoughts.
But he didn't think too much on it when the barista put a cup on the counter. Isak could only see the 'I' and guessed it was his, so he reached for it. At the same time, the other boy tried to grab it too and Isak felt his hand brushed against his.
"No worries, it's fine," he told him, feeling his cheeks grow hot. He grabbed his cup, just as another cup was set on the counter. Since it had an 'I' on it as well, he figured it was the guy's. "Maybe that's one yours? Are you Ian?"

“Uh, yeah. That one’s mine.” Ian said, blushing and looking away, kind of flustered. “I...um, yeah. I’m Ian. Hi.” He didn’t understand why he was being so awkward, and he could kick himself. He was acting like an idiot, and he very, very much did not want the other boy to think he was an idiot. He didn’t understand why he suddenly cared so much what he thought, he didn’t understand what was happening at all. But he knew that when they’d touched he felt the kind of spark that was lacking when he touched Dawn.
“So...uh...your name starts with I too?” Real smooth, Gallagher. he thought. Get it together.
He took the cup and took a sip, grateful for an excuse to shut up for a minute.

Usually Isak was the type to roll his eyes at someone who made an obvious observation. He would've even said something about it too. Like 'no shit, my name begins with an I. It says so on the damn cup', but this time, he didn't. In fact, he didn't feel annoyed at all, he actually found the guy blushing kinda cute.
Okay, why did he think he was cute but not the girl the other day? She had been acting the same, but he didn't feel anything towards her.
He brought himself back to reality and nodded. "Yeah, name's Isak," he said, turning his cup so Ian could see the name written on it.
***
“Isak. That’s a cool name.” Ian continued to wonder why he was sounding like a thirteen year old girl with a crush.
But then he remembered something. “Oh, hey, I think we might have known each other. Before all this happened, I mean.I think I found some texts from you on my phone.” Ian pulled his phone of of his pocket and opened it to the old text conversation. “Is that you?” He asked, handing Isak the phone. “Isak Valtersen?”
***
"Thanks. Guess it's Norwegian since apparently I'm from Norway." Not that Isak could even remember being in Norway, but since he had a different sounding name and an accent, it was pretty easy to guess he was not from around here.
He took a drink, raising his eyebrow when Ian spoke. He glanced at the phone and read the text messages. "Yep, that's me," he said. Come to think of it, Ian sounded familiar too. He hadn't really checked his phone that much yet, but he did recall seeing the name quite a few times.
"I have some texts from you too on my phone and some pictures. Maybe we're friends or something?"
***
“Norway, huh? I guess that explains the sexy accent.”
Wait, had he just said a guy had a sexy accent? What was wrong with him?! He could play it off as a joke, but still.
“Huh.” He said when Isak mentioned having texts and pictures. “Yeah, I have some pictures of you too. I guess you’re right, we must be friends.” Ian smiled, a genuine smile this time, not a nervous or flirtatious one like before. He was really glad to have met another friend, and have another link to his life before the memory loss.
***
Isak just smirked at that. "You think my accent is sexy?" he asked, teasing him a little. What? He couldn't help it.
"Yeah, guess so," he nodded. He was mostly happy to have found someone he apparently knew. On the other hand, there was a small part of him that was kind of disappointed they were only friends. "That's cool, though I wish I could remember you." From the photos, it seemed like they had some fun together, smoking joints and whatnot.
***
“Yeah,” Ian smirked back. “Totally sexy.” Ohmygod, what was he doing? He was flirting with a guy! “I bet the girls love it,” he added at the end in an attempt to make it sound a little less gay.
“I wish I could remember you too.” Although maybe it was better this way. He doubted if they flirted in their normal lives. Real-him would probably be shocked. “Do you want to, like, hang out, at least while we drink our coffee?” He didn’t have anywhere important to be, after all, or at least couldn’t remember if he did.
***
"Yeah," Isak replied with a shrug. A few girls seemed to like it but he found himself not really caring that they did. Ian, on the other hand, he kind of did care for some reason.
He also wanted to spend more time with him as well for some reason. So he nodded. "Sure. Wanna find a table to sit down or head out for a walk?" he asked. He was easygoing, so either way, it didn't matter to him.
***
“A walk would be fine.” The weather was nice, clear and warm for this time of year. “Maybe we could walk down to the river?” That was a popular spot for couples, but during the day there would be other people there walking and enjoying the scenery too. Isak hadn’t really seemed bothered by Ian’s flirting so far. Either he didn’t mind, or he wasn’t picking up on it. Ian really hoped it was the first option.
***
"Yeah, alright," Isak nodded and lead the way out of Starbucks and into the street. It really was a nice day out today and he was kind of glad Ian suggested going outside instead of staying in. Now they can enjoy the nice weather.
"So what have you discovered about yourself so far?" he asked curiously, taking a sip of his coffee.
***
Ian walked with Isak, sipping his coffee and enjoying the sunshine almost as much as he was enjoying being in Isak’s presence. “Well, I know my name’s Ian Gallagher. I’m seventeen. I know I’m a senior in high school because I found my school books. I found the address where I live - it’s this big farm house outside of town - and some of the people I live with. I don’t think any of them are my parents because we have different last names, but I’m not sure.”
There was one other big thing he knew about himself - that he had a girlfriend. But for some reason he didn’t want to tell Isak that. Not yet anyway.
“What about you? What have you found out?”
***
Isak nodded, listening as he walked and sipped his coffee. He found that he liked listening to Ian talk and could probably listen to him all day. When the redhead asked what he knew so far, Isak spoke.
"Well, aside that I'm from Norway, not much. I'm seventeen and a senior in high school too. I live in an apartment alone which is pretty cool." He had this feeling that he did live with someone at one point, though.
"Anyway, since we're both seniors, I bet we have some classes together." He hadn't exactly been to school lately, so he'd never really seen Ian around so far. Which was too bad because he was pretty cute and why did he just think that?
