He’d been taking trash out to the dumpster at the clinic where he worked when he fell asleep, but of course he didn’t know that because when he woke up on the ground outside, he had no memory. He sat up, confused and alone, unsure of where he was, or who he was. He wore a nametag, but the name John didn’t mean anything to him.
He’d gotten to his feet. He never even thought of going inside the closest building. Why would he? He didn’t know what it was, and no one inside would know him anyway. Instead he started walking, thinking the sun was terribly bright and his eyes hurt to look at it He felt weak, and it occurred to him that maybe he was sick.
He had nothing in his pockets, no wallet, no keys, no medication. Nothing to answer any of the questions rolling through his mind. He felt more and more light headed as he walked, and he instinctively kept to the shadows as much as he could. The sun didn’t harm him, but it made him feel uncomfortable, like it might burn him if he stood too long in a direct line.
His only thought was that he must be sick. Maybe he was on some medication that made him sensitive to the sun. It wasn’t until he saw a woman walking up ahead of him, that he thought about biting her. The thought of drinking her blood made him feel alive.
***
She roused herself from where she'd been sitting at a desk, a cup of Starbucks coffee in front of her. She had no idea what was going on, but there was another cup there labeled FAITH and her own was labeled CASSIE, so she figured her name was Cassie. That was a good enough answer for her, although where she was and who Faith was, she couldn't say.
In an effort to figure out what was going on, she looked through her pockets and found her phone. Dead. "Great. Who doesn't charge their cell phone?" she muttered, and put it on the desk. Maybe there was some clue outside, so she headed out that way and just as she crossed the threshold of the building, she Saw a brunette getting attacked by some guy, Saw him drinking her blood like some kind of animal.
Confused, Cassie rubbed at her eyes and stepped out into the sun, only to see the same woman and a man right behind her.
"Look out!" Cassie cried out, panicked. "He's going to eat you!"
***
She’d gotten up off the ground without any clue of how she’d found herself there or what was going on. She did know enough to know that not remembering anything couldn’t be right so she’d started heading for the door to a nearby business to see if she could sit down and look through her things to figure out what was going on and maybe call a doctor.
The warning had brought her out of her daze and faster than she ever imagined she could move she looked over her shoulder then bolted for the door. “Get inside kid!” She didn’t really think the man would eat her...or maybe she did, there was a look of hunger on his face that didn’t seem even close to normal...but she sure as hell wasn’t staying out here!
***
The woman he’d set his sights on took off a a run. In his completely feral mind, she was his prey and he was driven to chase by a deep rooted need. He shifted gears, pushing off and into a dead run, chasing after her.
He wasn’t the least bit deterred by the fact she was headed into a building. He was blissfully unaware of the dangers. All he knew was that he wanted to catch her, rip her apart, and feast on the blood flowing through her veins. Nothing was going to stop him, nothing was going to hold him back.
***
She stepped back toward the door and opened it up again, but she didn't step very far inside for fear of what she saw actually being real. Cassie didn't understand how that had even been possible, but obviously she'd been right since he had started running for them.
"Hurry!" He was so fast, unnaturally fast, and as she looked about the building she was in for some kind of weapon, she was overcome with another vision. That was the only way to explain it when she Saw the older brunette getting attacked and fighting, brawling really, through the office until they got to a room with a giant cage in it.
When the vision was over, she had to shake herself out of it and looked around with wide eyes. "He's going to hurt you!"
***
Faith had no idea she could run as fast as she did. But she also surprised herself when she slipped through the door and grabbed the teen by the waist to push her away from the danger zone. It was instinct, she knew that the guy was too close behind her to get completely away and she wanted to keep the kid out of it.
“Stay out of the way.” Maybe she could call someone to help or find something to use as a weapon but to give her time Faith turned to meet the dark haired man head on as he charged in. “Find something to help!”
***
He was right on her heels. The chase was exhilarating. It made him feel powerful, and he wanted nothing more than to sink his fangs into the woman’s neck. The girl would be dessert or something, because now that she was involved, he wasn’t going to just let her walk away.
“You don’t have to be scared,” he said, his voice showing no sign of being winded from the run. “I just want to be friends.” Which was a lie. He had no idea who he was, but he knew he craved the blood flowing through her veins. And he knew, instinctively that was not something he should announce.
***
She listened instinctively and took a few steps down the hallway that led to where the cage was. "This way!" she hissed, hoping to be quiet enough that the guy wouldn't hear. "There's a cage you can lock him in!" She wasn't sure how she knew that, but she did. That vision had been right about the guy chasing the other woman, so she had no reason to believe it wasn't going to be right about the cage.
When the guy said he just wanted to be friends, she scoffed. "Yea right," she countered, drawing attention to herself. "You're a monster." She wasn't afraid now. They'd be able to get him in the cage and they'd be alright. He wasn't going to hurt her or the other woman.
***
Faith heard what the girl had to say so she started to walk backward without taking her eyes off of the guy. She didn’t believe for a second he was anything less than dangerous. The way he’d chased her and the hunger on his face was pretty clear.
“I don’t wanna be friends. Sorry.” She had her fists up in what she figured was a pretty pathetic defense but if he rushed her she at least wanted to try to keep him off of her. “It’s not me, it’s totally you.”
***
“Why do you want to lock me in a cage?” He had heard the hushed whisper. He could hear the blood rushing through their veins. Of course he could hear whispers too. His hearing was excellent. He could hear their hearts hammering in their chests.
He stalked toward Faith, grinning at her raised fists. He was pretty sure he was as strong as he was fast. Let her try to attack him. He’d take her down in a matter of seconds. The other girl wouldn’t have much of a chance either.
***
It freaked her out that he'd heard her, but she backed down the hallway all the same because either he was going in the cage or she was. Either way, she'd be safe from him. She did not like this, not one little bit. It just wasn't normal at all. As the monster stalked toward the older brunette, Cassie decided to just turn tail and run for the cage.
She threw open the lock and pulled the door to it open and just prayed that the guy would be the one going in the cage and not her. "Hurry! I have the door open!" If the guy could hear her whispering, it wouldn't matter if she yelled or not and she wanted the older woman to hear.
***
Faith was sure she wasn’t going to get him where they needed him to be. If she turned to run he’d be on her. If she stayed there he was going to overpower her. Maybe the kid could at least lock herself in the cage and be safe if the guy took her down and got past her.
But the guy hadn’t even given her a chance to figure anything out. He just stalked straight at her and grabbed her. She didn’t even thing, couldn’t even think because she had no idea of anything about herself, she just grabbed him back, smashed her elbow into his face, followed after him when he stumbled back and rammed her knee into his midsection to make him double over forward then kicked him in the head and left him laying flat out on the ground.
“Holy shit.” Now that it was over Faith looked at her hands and the guy on the ground in shock. What the hell was that? “I’m bringing him in.” she yelled that back at the girl then crouched down to try to get leverage to drag him only to find that she was able to lift him and sling him over a shoulder.
“What the fuck am I, Supergirl?”
***
She waited kind of half in, half out of the cage, terrified of which way this was going to go. A huge sigh of relief came when she heard the older woman’s voice call out that she was bringing him in after the sounds of a fight had reached her. Cassie shifted so she was out of the cage and swung the door open wider.
“I dunno, but what does that make me? I Saw all that shit happening before it actually happened!” Which was terrifying. “Are you sure he’s out?” She peered at him, half expecting to see his eyes open or some shit like that.
***
“Yeah, he’s out.” Faith knew somehow from the dead weight and the limp muscles over her shoulder that the guy was out, she just didn’t know why she would know that. But since she really wasn’t all that happy with the guy at the moment she just hefted him off her shoulder and let him fall to the floor. Who cared if he got hurt at this point?
“Shut the door. Then we’ll figure out if we’re some sort of super mutants or something.” She sighed and looked at her elbow that she’d used to hit him with. There wasn’t even any bruises and no pain despite having hit him hard enough to knock him out. That just didn’t seem normal to her.
***
She did as she was told and shut the door, bolting it with some difficulty. The brunette had done the hard part though, so what was a little early afternoon workout. Once Cassie was satisfied that the guy wouldn’t be able to get out, she heaved a sigh of relief. “Okay, that was not how I wanted to spend my morning.”
She glanced at the other woman. “So...Hi. I’m Cassie. I think, anyway. Thanks for not dying.”
***
Being dropped on the floor was a bit jarring, even though he was kind of out of it. His eyes fluttered, but he found it hard to move. He blinked rapidly, his vision blurred for several seconds. When the locked clicked into place, awareness hit him hard and he jerked upright and lunged at the door to the cage where he had been contained.
“Let me out!” he snarled, hands gripping and trying to dislodge the bars.
***
“I’m all on board with the not dying part of the day.” Faith jumped when the guy hit the bars but since he obviously wasn’t getting out she smirked at him. “Oh right, we’ll just get right on that douchebag. Do you really need your ass kicked by a little girl for the second time in one day?”
Big talk since she really didn’t know what she was capable of and for all she knew she’d taken the guy by surprise and would get her ass handed to her if she tried it again.
“Look, he’s locked up and I’m kind of tired of his face. What say we leave him to it?” And maybe she could figure out who the hell she was and what was going on at the same time.
***
Cassie very promptly moved behind the older brunette as soon as the guy stirred. She didn't want to get anywhere near the bars again just out of fear that he might snatch her up or something. He seemed to be the sort who was very violent, though she did her best to not look as afraid as she felt.
She looked between the woman and the man for a long moment before choosing to focus on the woman. Cassie was hopeful that maybe they'd figure out some stuff together. "Well, I do have coffee..." she trailed off and led the way back toward the main area. The guy was locked up so it wasn't like he was going anywhere.
