Hugs from Uncle Shawn had always been weird. For a long time, Riley's whole life pretty much, if he'd hugged her it had felt like he did it out of obligation. It still did, but just this once, she really needed it. She just leaned into him, buried her face in his shoulder.
"I don't know what I want anymore." She'd thought she did. She'd wanted to hang out and hold his hand and kiss him and maybe really kiss him like a grown up. She'd just wanted to be together and she hadn't thought too hard about their future because it was scary. But it had always been there. But it had been there because she'd thought Lucas understood her, and was happy with her pace.
"But I know that I hurt him when I said no." So why should he want to talk to her anymore?
