Shawn clearly didn't have a very good imagination.
Riley looked up at him, eyes wide and filling with tears again. She'd been crying a lot since yesterday, or rather trying not to cry a lot. Which had just wound up in her withdrawing into herself, giving her more time to think about what had happened and remember the look on Lucas' face when she'd said no, and that just made it even harder to not cry.
"We went out for a drive and..." maybe she shouldn't tell him about the part where she'd been thinking maybe it was okay to be a teensy bit more physical than they had been, so she skipped that part, "and he asked me to marry him one day."
The one day had been important to Lucas. The not right now. But that wasn't enough to make Riley say yes. She was starting to wonder if maybe she should have.
