Suspicion entered his own eyes at the mention of town holy men. Had Belle completely lost her senses? To not trust the Council, that, of course, had been a wise choice, but to trust the town's clerics? This, he couldn't let stand. Not while they might linger in this strange and backwards town. Not when he had just gotten her back from night terrors of holy men flaying her with blessed silver and the blood of their sacred rites. "And why would you offer yourself to them?"
If Belle wasn't comfortable, if she needed some place to stay, well, he was certain to arrange something here. Surely, this town must have had some small inn that he could easily barter a room for. If not, well, room could always be made. The price, no matter how heavy, could be laid on himself. For Belle. For anything that she might have needed. It didn't matter. So long as his love acquired what she needed, what she deserved.
