Ty & Jane
"We were," he said softy, a small smile creeping out. It was the most he'd smiled in a long time, at least since he'd been married but probably since the day he'd met Eva. "I've never been so happy as I was with you."
Which was scary to say. He'd been with Dawn, back home, and had thought the same thing. But it was different with Jane. Jane knew and loved both sides of him. It didn't even matter that he couldn't touch her for very long, that they'd had to be so careful to keep her from getting hurt. Because he loved her and wanted to be with her, it wasn't a chore.
But with Eva, he felt things that he couldn't with a mortal woman. It was a wild pain like being choked with barbed wire, but he felt it and that was enough to crave more. Besides, he did love her. He wasn't happy, but he loved her.
Ty dropped his fork against his plate. "I'm sorry." He knew Jane didn't want to hear about how good things had been between them when they weren't like that anymore. "I should go."
