Before becoming a father, Lucas used to look forward to Monday mornings. It was the start of a new week, and nobody would expect him to go out in the evenings and do things he wasn't interested in doing. He could work to his heart's content for five whole days. It was something only a workaholic would feel, but Lucas kind of defined that word.
Now, though, he barely dragged himself in at eight o'clock, depending on his coffee like a crutch. Sure, he didn't have to be there until nine, but before the twins, it was usually six-thirty or seven when he opened the office.
The children and Paige were the loves of his life, and he wouldn't give up any of them for the world, but he could really use just one night of uninterrupted sleep.
Just one.
Was that so much to ask?
He went into his office and set down his briefcase and his coffee. Then he found a file and opened it, determined to reread it in its entirety before the client arrived at ten.
The next thing he knew, he practically fell out of his chair at a knock on the door, knocked out of a desperate and deep sleep.
"Come in," he said, righting himself.
