Al smiled as he waved at Klara. “Klara! Hi!” he had decided to show her his plant house, and wanted her to see it and know about it… just in case he was ever taken away. The house he had built, to protect the plants that Ivy had made, was important to him, and so he had put himself together and done his best to clean, and wait.
He had always taken care of this place, and he wanted his new friend to know about it too.
As he waited, he hummed to the plants, their favorite song.
***
Klara bounded on over, smiling. “Al! It’s good to see you. And good to be the right age again.” she laughed softly as she arrived. She had tied her hair back into a braid and looked ready to see what he had in store for her today.
“How are you?” she smiled warmly as she looked around. “Oh now this, this is nice!” she beamed.
***
Al chuckled and nodded to her. “I’m good. And glad to be back to normal.” he led the way into the actual building, which held many plants which were larger and wilder than normal, some of which should not have been able to grow here.
“This is the Ivy Plant House. A woman named Ivy created or modified these plants, and I have been taking care of them since she was taken away. And I built this house to take care of them.” Glass arched and concentrated sunlight on them, and the walls were thick, allowing heat to stay inside.
***
Klara nodded a bit. “I’m glad too, honestly. Being that tiny was not my favorite thing. I feel bad for Phil. He had to endure a lot of strange things from me.” she laughed softly as she stepped into the greenhouse and took a deep breath. She closed her eyes, ignoring Al for a moment, and just listening.
Feeling.
Her head cocked to the side as she listened. “They like it here. They appreciate everything you’ve done for them.” she said quietly.
***
“You mean like you wanting to know the meaning of the word Erotic?” He chuckled.”Hopefully it wont happen again, anytime soon.”
He had been sympathetic to tiny her. He remembered being tiny and not really listened to.
He smiled at her words.
“Really? Awesome! I sometimes think I can feel that, but not always.”
*** “Yeah that… I feel so bad for Phil on that one. That poor man. He's such a good guardian to deal with that. Though I almost killed him when I asked.” She laughed softly as she shook her head.
She reached a hand out gently, eyes closed again, smiling as the closest plant reached back. “Really. They're happy. Though this one while like a little more water.”
“I wish I could share this with you.”
******
“It’s okay. A friend might be boosting my ability. I can just… barely feel them, kind of understand them, some. And apparently, there is a way to make it better.”
He nodded. “So, eventually, maybe we can talk to them together.” He watered the one plant, hand gently stroking it as he did so. His eyes a little distant as he tried to hear them.
***
Klara felt at home among them. “Tefe?” She inquired. She'd met most of the others of the Green already and had a good idea who he was likely talking of.
“They grow for you. It is a sign they like you.” She said softly as she patted the plants gently. “They're more than people realize.”
***
“Tefe. She is an elemental? She sees and talks to the Green a lot.” he nodded. Al smiled at her. “You are welcome to come here anytime you like. I just didn’t want to let them die or go back to normal, just because the dome took Ivy away. I remember Ivy.” He spoke the words softly, touching a plant.
“I love the plants. I like making them happy, and making them healthy.”
***
“I know her.” She said softly, she liked the woman. She was fascinating. “She is more connected than I am to the green. I like her.” She said softly as she ran her hands over the plants.
“No, they will be okay. This I promise you.” She leaned over one and took a deep breath. “They are lovely Al. Thank you for sharing this with me.”
***
“You are welcome. If I… if I ever vanish, please come here and talk to them. Make sure they know I wouldn’t leave them on purpose. “ he stroked a hand above leaves, not quite touching. He did not want to hurt them. He did not know if he would ever have kids, but he did know that these were almost like kids to him.
“I love plants.”
*** “You have no fear. I will mind them no matter what.” She smiled warmly. “It would be my honor and pleasure.”
Her fingers stretched outwards as she breathed in the scents of the plants. “I am honored to be here.”
***”
***
“Thank you.” Alphonse sniffled, and smiled. He was not crying, nope. He smiled back. “I just want to make sure they are protected.” He nodded at her, eyes bright.
“It's a good place. I like just sitting and feeling it, you know? The plants feel… nice.”
***
Klara sat down. “They'll be fine. You're not going anywhere either.” She sighed softly then rested her hand s on the ground.
“Nature is calming. A wise man once said ‘the mountains are calling and I must go’ he was a modern man by very intelligent.”
***
“I hope I won't be, but thanks.” Al smiled at her and cocked his head to the side. “It is, true. We should go up to the hills sometime and walk in the wildflowers.” He nodded.
“It’s nice up there and there are little brooks and caches or flowers and animals everywhere.”
***
“In spring dear one. Too soon for them to be ready. I don't want to hurt them.” She closed her eyes and smiled.
“I like this place. In spring she shall be thriving. I can feel it.” She was looking forward to it.
**
“Of course, milady.” He instinctively answered her words and smiled. “I don’t want to either.” he nodded as he watched her, and looked outward.
“Good. It makes you shine when you stand here.” he nodded again.
*** Klara blushed a little. “I am most comfortable with plants, Al, I guess it shows.” She smiled at him, eyes bright.
“Let's see how the others are doing.” She made herself move, fingers trailing, listening. “This one needs more water too.” ***
“Alright.” He started moving with her and watered where she told him to. He had a general sense when they needed things. And he liked watching her work with them. She was kind of cute at it.
He grinned as they worked.
*** “I think everyone is happy. You do well with them, Al. They like you.” She smiled and hugged him. “I can't wait to see them in spring.”
She was earnest, and kind, and totally loved these plants. They were so diverse!
