Fred Weasley was slowly adjusting to life in Madison Valley without George around. A second time. He would have been okay if George hadn’t been there for the month he had been there. But he knew Madison Valley was a strange, strange place, and that no one could control what happened in the small town. So he knew that he had to accept the fact that George was no longer there.
He had stopped by a small sandwich shop and purchased a sandwich and some chips, and currently found himself in the park on a bench. He knew he needed to eat, and he was hungry, but he was currently picking at the sandwich, staring at the pond in front of him. He was becoming happy once again, and he was glad he had the shop to keep him occupied. At least it kept him busy.
He laughed softly at the ducks that were surrounding him, hoping for a bit of bread from the young red-head.
***
Bobby was out, wanting to just try to not feel completely wrecked in this odd life, and he was adjusting to all the new crazies. He hoped it would be fine. He hoped a lot. At least he was back to his own body.
He smiled as he headed for the pond, to just walk, and then sit and think. He could see a man who was familiar feeding the ducks, and it made him chuckle. “Having fun?”
***
Fred looked up when he heard a somewhat familiar voice speaking. He grinned when he saw Bobby, who he knew from working at the gelato shop. “Hey!” He then glanced down at the demanding birds. “They are being so… so… I don’t know the word for it. Except demanding. Like they expect the bread or something.”
He flicked a few pieces of bread crumbs at the ducks, and snickered softly when they went after them.
“How are you doing? Life at the gelato shop treating you well?” He scooted over on the bench, to give Bobby room to sit if he so chose.
***
“How are you? Animals like this probably do. They are used to people coming here for this purpose alone. They are probably quite well fed.” Bobby chuckled.
“I’m doing good. And sure.I work there and at the college as well.”
***
“The gelato shop and the college? You’re pretty busy, then. I’m still pulling a few shifts working at the gelato shop as well, but I’m mainly trying to focus on my shop. Especially since George decided he was better suited being back home.”
He flicked a bit of bread at the ducks surrounding him. “Other than George being sent home, I’m doing okay. It’s almost as though he wasn’t even here.”
Fred did miss George, but he had become accustomed to his twin not being there. Not because he wanted to, it was out of necessity.
“At least I have Weiss here.”
***
“Yep. I’m loving it.” He grinned at the man. “This place does love to play its games.” He nodded to the other man.
“He’ll probably come here again. Eventually.”
And Bobby smiled. “Its nice having people you care about here. Really nice.”
***
Fred nodded, “It is. I’m glad to have her here, I just hope the dome doesn’t decide to take her like it did George.” That seemed more unlikely, though, as Weiss had been there much longer than George had. He was hoping that meant she would remain there for some time.
“So, how are you doing? Enjoying Madison Valley?”
He didn’t really mind the town all that much, except for the fact that it liked to give and take people whenever it pleased. But even that much was okay.
***
“I hope not, too.” Bobby didn’t like that factor of the dome at all.
“Right now, disliking it, but honestly, even with everything that has happened of late, I would rather be here than back home.”
***
“What has happened to make you dislike it?” Fred hoped his question wasn’t too forward, but that’s how Fred was. Asking whatever was on his mind. Hopefully Bobby wouldn’t mind too much.
“I would rather be here than back home as well. Apparently I die back home, within a matter of hours.”
***
“Several friends have been sent home, and a person has been brought here who is an asshole and a complete danger to the town, as well as then right after that, I was dropped into someone else’s body.” He sighed. “Its kind of sucked.”
Bobby winced. “Ouch. I would not want to be there either, then.”
***
“Ah. That would make me not particularly care for Madison Valley, either. Luckily not many people I know have been sent home. I turned thirteen for a while, but that’s about the extent of it.” He flicked a few bread crumbs and the growingly impatient ducks.
“Yeah, I’d rather be here and alive than home and dead.” Though he was certain he wouldn’t really have known he had died. But that was beside the point. He knew now.
He leaned against the back of the bench, flicking more bread crumbs.
***
“How is two jobs working for you? Running a shop as well as working the gelato must be busy-making.” Bobby was curious. It seemed like a lot of work, really.
***
Fred groaned softly, “It’s hectic,” he admitted. “I am surprised I even have time to be out here for lunch. Usually I skip lunch and don’t eat until late.” Which he knew was unhealthy, but he couldn’t help it. It was hard, too, as he could eat a lot.
***
“Some days you just need to breathe.” Bobby knew how that was. And life could be weird, and crazy. ”Don’t do that too much.” he could be dad-ish, sometimes, too, okay?
“Do I need to remind you that there is a young lady who would be sad if you overworked yourself or hurt yourself?”
***
Fred considered Bobby’s words, and nodded. “I know. I need to take a break every once in a while. Weiss did say I could quit at the gelato shop if I needed to, that she would understand.” He didn’t really want to quit the gelato shop, though. He liked working there, just as he liked working and running the joke shop.
But he would if he needed to.
“I would hate to disappoint Weiss. And everyone else.”
***
“Better to not be at the shop then not be around at all because you worked yourself into a panic or stress attack, or worse. How badly would she yell at you if she found that out, hmmm? Especially if your excuse was to not disappoint her?” he didn’t know Weiss well, but from working with her, she seemed pretty cool, and smart.
***
“She’d likely yell at me quite a bit if she found out. So… I think you might be right. I don’t want a panic or stress attack, or to worry Weiss.” He truly liked Weiss, and didn’t want to make her worry. Or angry. Bobby made a valid point. He sighed softly, and wrapped up the rest of the sandwich in the wrapper it had been in. “I think I might have to quit the gelato shop.”
***
Bobby smiled at the man. It wasn’t often he got to help like that. He was more of a silly man than most. But that was what he did. Today… today was a different day. He nodded to the man.
“Sometimes, the hardest choices are easier seen from the outside.” He gently patted the man’s shoulder. “You got this.”
***
Fred nodded at Bobby’s words, “I suppose you are right. And Weiss did say I could quit the gelato shop once my shop opened. I just.... felt like I was abandoning them or something, you know? Weiss and Nora didn’t have to give me the job at their shop.”
He smiled at the other man. “Thank you for your help, Bobby. I appreciate it.” And with that, he stood up. “I suppose I should get back to work for the day, though.”
***
“Of course. Anytime.” He smiled at Fred, and nodded. “Any time. Have a good day. We can talk another time.”
With a wave, Bobby headed out.
