WHO: Qrow and Bobby WHAT: Random meeting and conversation; matchup WHEN: Before the plot WHY?: Because fun! WARNINGS: Drinking, nothing more. STATUS: Closed and Completed Gdoc.
Bobby was drinking. He was not sure if he really wanted to be drinking, but here he was. He was definitely not wanting to deal with this place. Some days, it was worse than he had ever planned on thinking. Some days, he wished he knew how to just turn off his give a damn.
And so he was drinking. Lou’s provided a good place to hide from everything, and he was glad of it, because, damn, he needed some time down. He needed, well, a way to just stop thinking.
It wasn’t working, but at least he was here. He had a plate of pretzels in front of him, and a beer freshly filled in his hand. Even if he couldn't shut off his head, he could at least try to enjoy it.
When someone sat down near him,he raised his glass in salute to them.
“Evening.”
***
Qrow, on the other hand, did enjoy drinking. As people have said about him, he was always drunk, even if it was just a little bit. It was rare for him to be completely sober. So he was a little buzzed even before he had stepped into Lou's.
Lou's was his favorite in town. He definitely preferred the more simple places, not the more fancier places like the others. He headed straight to the bar and ordered a drink, glancing over at the man beside him.
"Evening," he replied with a curt nod. "Having a bad day or just having a drink?" he asked. People usually went to bars because they want to forget the events of the day. Others simply wanted to drink. Qrow was usually the latter.
***
“A combination. Been awhile since I drank and I wanted a taste, and also it’s been a bit crazy in my life lately. A fucking insane psychopath arrived here, hurt a friend, and is a current threat in the town, tempting me to break my lifelong promise not to kill.” He paused and downed his drink, then waved for a new one.
“And just a few things. Not my favorite time.”
***
"Oh, that. I saw something about that on the network." Qrow usually didn't care much for the network. He checked it every so often but he usually just skimmed through it, not really paying attention. He seeing people talk about some crazy lunatic was something that did make him pay attention. "Sorry about your friend getting hurt. I hope they get everything under control."
The bartender handed him his drink and he took a sip. A few seats away, the girl sitting there dropped her phone. To others, it looked as if she was just clumsy. But Qrow knew it was his Semblance acting up again. Since no one got hurt, he just shrugged and turned to the man beside him. "No, I guess it wouldn't be. Sorry you're having a rough time."
***
“A little bit of crazy from home. Makes me less easy and comfortable in this town. So, here I am, trying to just let go a little and not look at the network or anything else tonight.” he had his mental ears on in case Jean needed him, but otherwise, he was off the grid.
He sipped his new drink as he nodded to the other man. “As in control as things can get around here.”
He smiled a little. “It’s alright. Thanks. Tonight is just me breathing some, you know? Getting out of the line of it all. How are things for you?”
*** Qrow nodded. As far as he knew, things never got too out of hand. They may once in awhile but it's usually contained. From what he heard, there was hardly a time when people got hurt so he wasn't too worried about it.
"Yeah, it's good to get away for a bit," he said. "Me? Not much. Definitely nothing like your troubles. I'm just here for a drink or two." Or three or more.
***
“Drinks are good, for sure. Sometimes, the day just needs some.” Bobby didn’t drink a lot, due to not wanting to let his powers go out of control, but he did now and then.
Bobby extended a hand. “Bobby Drake.”
He sipped his drink. “I’m just glad that the day is quiet right now.”
*** "I don't know if I need drinks, but I do enjoy them," Qrow said with a slight grin. He had powers too he couldn't control them, so it didn't matter if he was sober or drunk.
"Qrow Branwen," he replied, shaking the guys hand. "Hopefully it'll stay quiet for awhile." With this place, however, he learned that it wasn't always the case. But hopefully it would be.
"So how long have you been here?" he asked.
***
“I’ll admit that today I need them. But mostly I just like them, now and then.” Bobby nodded, grinning. “What’s your poison?”
He waved at the man’s glass, curious.
“Almost a year now. Got here last year in February.”
*** "Whiskey," Qrow replied. To be honest, he didn't really care what drink he had. As long as it was alcoholic, he was good.
"Long time," he said with a nod. "I've only been here for a couple months or so." Hey, he didn't really keep track. "It's a bit strange at first but there's a couple people here from home. They kinda helped with things."
***
“Cool. There’s a store at fifth and main that sells the best whiskey in town.” Bobby had an absolute memory. He never forgot anything, like randomly seeing really good whiskey ratings there.
“At least it hasn’t been a longer one. Some people have been here around four or five years.”
*** "Thanks, I'll have to remember that." He definitely liked whiskey. He just hoped it won't be too expensive. That was what he liked about Lou's, it was cheaper here than most of the other bars in town.
He sipped his drink. "I'm not sure how I'd feel if I was here for that long." Maybe he'll find out, maybe he won't. Only time would tell.
***
Bobby nodded, sipping his drink. “Despite all the problems, I like this place. It’s far less of a hassle than home. I am more than willing to stay here, well, forever.”
Bobby liked how things were working out.
*** "Same here. We have monsters back home, which I and other people hunt and kill. It's nice to relax a bit but sometimes I miss hunting." And why not? He was damn good at it.
"And I do miss my family too." He wouldn't admit just how much he missed Ruby, Yang, and Taiyang. He even missed Raven, despite being estranged from his sister. "Other than that, this place isn't so bad. I could maybe see myself staying here."
***
“I… miss friends, and family, yeah. I do not miss home.” Not at all. He hadn’t had a real home in years, not with how the mansion blew up so often. And he quit and rejoined and quit again.
Sigh.
He nodded, listening.
“Its not dull, even as it is not overwhelming, most of the time. But what world isn’t like that? Mine is the opposite. Mostly overwhelming with occasional times of less action, but still action.”
*** "It was the same in my world - more action than not, especially the last year or so." That was when everything sort of started. Now not only did they have to hunt Grimm, but other hunters had came to fight them too. Some people have died, some have gotten seriously injured. Qrow had been one of them, getting poisoned and nearly dying just before he arrived here.
He finished off his drink. "I should probably get going. It's getting rather late and my housemates will probably wonder where I am." Well, Nora would at least. He doubted Weiss really cared.
