WHO: Izzy and Superboy WHAT: A matchup/random meeting WHEN: Recently WHY?: Because magic! WARNINGS: n/a STATUS: Closed and Complete
Izzy was now definitely feeling pregnant, she had around 8 weeks to go and while she wasn’t as big as some she was definitely obviously carrying a baby. Her sparring had stopped completely and she was in the office at Verdant now, their insurance didn’t cover heavily pregnant door staff which was understandable. And honestly she kind of liked it. She wouldn’t want to do it full time but helping to sort the rota and make orders and the like wasn’t as boring as she had assumed it would be.
She did miss the obstacle course though so made sure to take long walks through the woods and parks, she needed to keep her fitness up still. She’d even joined a couple of classes aimed at pregnant women, gentle yoga and that kind of thing. She didn’t mind it but she missed the more active stuff.
On one of her wood walks she happened to lookup and see someone flying around. While not completely unusual in this place it wasn’t something she saw everyday and she sat down on a nearby log to watch.
***
Superboy had been out flying and enjoying the sun, loving to get up high and do loop de loops and twists, spins and tumbles, and even more elaborate moves, working on speed, accuracy, and skill. He loved flying, and the way he did it, he found new things to love about it, every day. Hearing someone make that intake of air he knew from experience meant that had spotted him, he glanced down, and smiled as he saw a woman who was very pregnant. Pregnancy fascinated him, and always had, because he was not born, but made in a lab.He had no mother, or father, not really. All he had were genome sequences stolen from other people.
Deciding to say hi, he let himself descend slowly, landing near her with a bow and a smile. “Hello, miss. How are you, today?”
***
Izzy smiled at him and nodded her head, “Hi, I’m good thanks. Sorry for not getting up” she added, “But it takes more of an effort these days” she grinned, gesturing to her stomach.
It had been impressive to watch him tumbling in the sky, and she had to admit she was a little sad there was no flight rune for her to try. “You’re impressive, it looks like fun to be up there”
***
Superboy smiled at her and settled near her. “No worries. How far along are you?” He had little tact, really.
“I can’t imagine what it must be like.” He wondered, though.
***
“Seven months, so not long to go now at all” Izzy said, before grinning, “Well currently I feel like a whale, and I’ve found myself eating the most random combinations of food ever” she laughed, “But it’s pretty amazing too, especially when I feel him kicking” she admitted.
***
Superboy grinned to hear her describe it. “Nice! It’s amazing, miss. Birth seems a miracle, but it must be a lot of work.” he nodded at her. “And you look beautiful, too. Not like a whale at all.” He spoke honestly, not really knowing how to social, but believing it.
***
“You are going to become my new favourite friend with compliments like that” Izzy told him, grateful for the kind words. “It’s definitely more work than I expected. I didn’t realise I’d feel so tired, but it’ll be worth it” It had better be or Izzy would be very annoyed.
***
Superboy chuckled, then smiled at her.
“Just the truth as I see it. I’m an admirer of those who have the courage and strength to become pregnant and being a new child into the world.”
He nodded at her.
“I am sure it will be. A shame others can’t share the burden somehow.” He gladly would help, if he could.
***
“You make it sound very noble” Izzy said with a smile, “I like it” she added in case he thought she wasn’t taking him seriously.
She laughed a little then, “That would be great. Especially the aching back at night part, I would happily make my boyfriend take that on for me” she grinned at him.
***
“I think it is, I mean… bringing new life into the world and all.” He smiled at her and was relieved she liked his words. He felt shy, almost, and he nodded to her.
Superboy cocked his head and then smiled.
“I can’t take those away permanently, but would you care to feel better right now? I can remove pain and tiredness, boosting your health temporarily. Telekinesis is good for some things, anyway.”
***
Izzy liked that, even if she and Johnny hadn’t planned it they hadn’t ever really seriously considered getting rid of the baby either. They were going to do the very best they could so she supposed in a way it could be seen as noble. She appreciated the idea at least.
“Yeah?” Izzy’s runes which helped her do that were wearing out faster these days and she tried not to use too many. Just in case. “Is it risky? To the baby or you I mean?” she asked, wanting to make sure nobody was going to suffer before she jumped at the chance to feel better.
***
Superboy nodded. “It’s not risky to anyone. The process is me telekinetically stimulating your system. Removing fatigue poisons and filtering your system, using your body’s own processes. It wont last long, about 48 hours, but it will let you feel less tired and more energetic, without risk to anyone, for that time.” He nodded again.
“And I’ve done it with multiple people, without problems. It’s basically telling your body to do its job a little better. No drugs or manipulation, just a simple set of nerve impulses talking to other nerve impulses.”
***
Izzy liked to think herself a pretty good judge of character and the only vibe she was getting from this boy was that he was genuinely sweet and kind. And it would be really nice not to feel completely shattered even for a little while.
Nodding she smiled, “Okay, well if you don’t mind that sounds like heaven right about now” she admitted, “Oh, I should tell you who I am since you’re offering to do this for me. I’m Izzy” she held out her hand to him.
***
“Good“ He was glad she had said yes. He just wanted to help her. He met her hand with his own, and shook. “I’m Superboy, ma’am, and I am here to help.”
And his telekinesis gently swept into her, touching her nervous system, just so, and her brain just so, and reminding both things what they could do. Gently, easily, slowly, a wave of warmth and vitality, health and strength, would wash over Izzy. She would feel her energy levels rising and any sense of tiredness or soreness would melt away. She would feel as if she woke up from the best sleep of her life and as if she was full of energy, and for a moment, she would even be able to feel her child’s health flowing within her.
He slowly pulled his powers and hand back, smiling to her, eyes dancing with joy. Nothing made him happier than making someone who truly deserved it feel better. “There, now, take a deep breath and tell me how you feel.”
***
Izzy, while used to the runes making her feel good, had never felt anything quite like this. It was completely amazing. She had never felt so good before, healthy and strong. She hadn’t realised quite how much the pain in her lower back had gotten until it was gone, and the relief was immense.
“Better than I have in months” she said honestly, possibly longer. “You definitely live up to the ‘super’ in your name” she told him with a smile, “Thank you so much. That was very kind of you”
***
Superboy blushed red at her words, smiling shyly then. “I’m glad. Now, remember, 48 hours. Then it’s back to normal. And I can’t do it very often, because your body isn’t coded like mine. It’s not designed to operate on a hyperscale.” he smiled at her, and swept her a bow with a jig thrown in.
“It is my absolute pleasure, Izzy. After all, what are friends for?” He spread his hands. “And what use is having powers if not to help those friends?”
***
“48 hours, I’ll remember” she promised, standing far more easily than she had before and knowing she’d need to use her time wisely.
“If I can ever do anything for you then promise me you’ll let me know. After all, as you say, that’s what friends are for” she smiled at him, very pleased to have met him.
***
Superboy smiled at her. “Good. Take care of yourself, and try not to push too hard. And the same goes for you. All you ever need to do is call my name and I will come.”
He nodded to her. “Thank you, Izzy.”
***
Not known to be too affectionate she felt this was definitely deserving of a hug, even if it did end up being a slightly awkward pregnant one. “Thank you” she said softly with a smile.
***
Superboy blushed and smiled, hugging her gently.
“You are welcome. Good luck, my friend.” He stepped back, feeling bouncy and alive. “Be good to you now.” And he winked at her and shot up into the air in a blur of red and black, a faint “Wahooooo!”, echoing behind him.
