Barry hated winter. It was cold, the ground was slick, and he had to be more careful when he was running at Mach3. Of course, running was just about the only way to keep warm, too. So even the chance of breaking every bone in his body because of the ice wasn’t enough to stop him. He’d been out for a run this morning, and had managed not to end up on his butt yet. That was an accomplishment, and he was feeling pretty good about his life.
Finishing his run, he was starving to death (which was pretty typical, really), and so he decided to stop by the bakery and get a couple dozen donuts. He wasn’t all that surprised to see Pietro there as well. Speedsters were well known to have crazy appetites.
“Hey,” he said. “Happy New Year.”
***
“Hey!” Pietro smiled when he saw Barry, “Happy New Year! How was the run?” he asked, knowing the other speedster would have been out and about too. It was simply one of those things, when you could move fast then sitting still didn’t feel right most of the time.
Having been born and grown up in a cold climate he was a little more used to the ice and cold conditions than most.
***
“Pretty good. I’ve gotten used to running in the ice a bit better. Last year, of course, I made a few slips.” He grimaced. It hurt to slip at all at Mach3.
“What about you?”
Barry wasn’t super competitive, he didn’t really care about seeing which one of them was faster. It was just nice sometimes to have another speedster around.
***
“Sokovia gets a lot of ice and snow so I am used to the weather a little more I think” Pietro said, “But I am glad you are getting used to it” he added with a grin.
What Pietro liked most about Barry was the lack of competitiveness between them, sure they had their moments and jokes but overall they had become good friends and Pietro liked that.

It wasn’t that Central City didn’t get cold weather, it did. Just not like this. This was more than just cold weather. This was arctic weather. Bah.
“Sometimes just have to go for a run to warm myself up in the morning.”
Despite all his suits and protections, the friction at Mach3 still made sure that he was nice and toasty when he was running that fast.
***
“It is definitely the best way to warm up I think” he said with a grin, “We are lucky to have such an easy way”
Pietro liked morning runs, well runs at any time really but mornings before most people were up and about were his particular favourites.
***
Barry liked it that way as well. There were fewer things to dodge - a smaller chance that he’d end up getting hit by a car that he didn’t see in time. And there was something about being one of the first to breathe that chill morning air.
“Oh, I can think of a few other good ones.”
But then he blushed. That was a big reason that he was so bad at innuendo.
***
Pietro laughed loudly at that, “Indeed my friend, more fun too perhaps, yes?” he grinned. Pietro didn’t really do embarrassment much, but then he had never had a large group of friends before. It had been Wanda and himself for a long time.
***
“Well, yeah, probably,” he said. “Although running is a lot of fun, too.” But not as fun as that. Ahem.
“You’re seeing Alexandra, right?”
***
Pietro nodded, “I am a lucky man to have her” he smiled, “Is there a special someone here for you Barry?” he asked curiously, he couldn’t recall him mentioning anybody but he may not be remembering rightly.
