Violin had only recently discovered the obstacle course. It wasn’t as challenging as she’d hoped, but that was alright. It was enough to keep her moving and getting her off her ass. She was standing on the top of the wall, surveying the grounds when she spotted another person coming towards it. She decided to stay and see what the person was up to, and who it was. Violin hadn’t met too many and those she had she’d met on her terms - dressed how she wanted to be perceived that day. Today was the first time she’d been caught unawares in a sense. In that way, Lexa got to see the Real Violin for a few minutes - the tall, slender woman who moved like liquid as she moved to the next obstacle. She had her hair bound back in a tight braid and dressed in comfortable linen pants and shirt, she didn’t seem to mind the cold, although if you asked her, she’d complain bitterly. She was a girl from the middle east - this cold was bullshit. She worked her way back around to the start of the course so she could greet the newcomer. It was as close to control of this she was going to have - meeting the person on her place of choice. Violin liked control. “Nice day for the course.” she said, as pleasantly as possible, trying to pull a mask of indifference into place. *** It was not surprising to find at least one other person at the obstacle course in Madison Valley on any given day. Regardless of rain or shine, cold or hot, no one seemed to be deterred from at least giving it one go around before deciding the weather just might be a bit too unbearable. Lexa was one of the few that was accustomed to many different sorts of weather and that included the horrible, winter chill currently blanketing the town. She’d made sure to keep her furs-a bit of a trophy from a few rare instants of hunting here, around her as well as a warm, winter coat she’d recently purchased here. Normally, Lexa made clothing from nature, but she was slowly becoming more familiar and okay with purchasing manmade clothing. It remained strange still, but at least she was trying to adapt. Being at the course, she planned to strip down to her normal leather, warrior garb before doing a few rounds. Exercise and really any strenuous physical activity tended to heat you up pretty quickly and Lexa would hopefully be making more than one round about the place before heading home. Not surprised, Lexa did indeed spot a young woman, hair spun back in a braid, moving in a near perfect, fluid motion in light linen attire. Lexa could not help, but find the choice of clothing interesting seeing as to it being winter and she looked as if she was dressed for more summery, heated weather. Then again, maybe she had some resistance to cold that escaped Lexa. At the greeting, Lexa offered a nod. “Beautiful day to test your resilience as well as everything else,” she added. **** Violin didn’t seem to notice how chilly it was, though she would once she stopped moving. She smiled, although it was friendly enough there was a bite to it. “It is a beautiful day to do that, yes.” she pushed the braid over her shoulder as she ran her hand over her neck and soothed an ache that was setting in. She’d been working too hard as of late to really relax, though she sorely missed being in the field in action, she did find this place rather pleasant to be in too. “I’m Violin.” she started off, because greetings were just as important in manners as not. Though she wasn’t the best at being polite when off her guard, she knew her mother would whoop her ass if she wasn’t. Even if Lilith was not here, she was still minding her for it. She looked around at the snow covered landscape with a faint smile, it was nice, even if it wasn’t her favorite. She couldn’t hide her tracks all that well in snow, she moved strangely too fast and it kicked up too much snow to hide. It annoyed her to no end, of course. She liked being able to move around near invisible. *** The temperature did have a sharp bite to it and the cold was never the most pleasant to work up a sweat in, but Lexa knew the importance of keeping up with training. Just because this place was currently quiet and peaceful did not mean it would always remain that way. Fortune did favor the prepared and Lexa had witnessed all of that her entire life. It was best to be on your guard and it didn’t matter which world you resided in at the time. “It’s always best to be on your guard and prepared, even in a world like this,” Lexa added, shrugging out of her furs. Even without the furs and coat, her leathers did a decent job of keeping her warm and surprisingly, mostly dry from the snow. “Lexa,” the former Commander replied, offering a hint of a smile to Violin. “Interesting name,” Lexa added. It reminded her of the names of the Grounders; they were all rather creative like that and different. She doubted anyone held the same name as the other, but in this world it seemed to be a common thing to share a name with someone else. It was kind of sad with the lack of creativity, at least in that area. Lexa preferred to keep her tracks and presence veiled as well, but in the snow it was near impossible to do so unless you went back and erased all of it. In that case, you might as well not bother because you’d end up running into your enemy following you anyway. Hopefully, the snow would not last long, but it also helped when Lexa decided to go hunting here. Animal tracks were an obvious, perfect way to find her prey. *** “You never know what this world will bring us next.” she said lightly as she pushed the braid out of the way again and smiled. “A pleasure to meet you, Lexa. Thank you. My mother thought it apt. I am unsure why but it is what it is.” said the woman who could, in fact, play the violin. Rather well no less, thanks to needing to live up to her name just a little. “Do you enjoy your time here?” she asked carefully, wondering. She was curious about this place and its people, and who liked it here and who didn’t. Violin didn’t know much about the people here and she wasn’t sure if she liked them all yet. They were far too placid a people in general. She was missing the element of danger in her life. “I am sorry, I ask too many questions.” she said gently tilting her head before brushing snow off her shoulder. *** “No, you don’t,” Lexa agreed. Part of her actually wanted a little danger or some trouble to kick up. As much as she enjoyed peace, she did miss the excitement of exercising her talent and skills. Madison really had no place for warriors or fighters; it was mundane, ordinary, and normal to the extreme. Again, it was okay in a way because it allowed her to spend more time with Clarke, but she still missed a good sword fight once and a while. She figured Violin felt much the same way; many of the people that hit up the course were looking to keep in shape. At the question, Lexa nodded. “I am,” she replied softly. “I have my girlfriend here and people I like. It’s a good place to be.” The best reason? She wasn’t dead. If it wasn’t for Madison Valley, all those precious moments with her girlfriend would not have existed. It was sad to think about and Lexa pushed the depressing thoughts down. “I think people don’t ask enough around here,” Lexa offered honestly. “But I think that’s because they don’t feel there is a need too.” *** Violin felt exactly the same way - she hated being stagnant. Being still. Not doing anything. It felt weird and she didn’t like it. She was used to being active, and on the go, all day every day. Even the few down days at home had never stayed that way long. This place was nice, in some regards, she didn’t mind relaxing, but it was rough in others. She missed the excitement. Even if she should feel bad for it, she didn’t. “That is good then.” she nodded a bit. “It is nice to have people you care about with you. I have my dog, though that is nowhere near the same. I am glad she is here.” she smiled a touch, because Banshee was special. She was just glad the Dome had brought her with. “That’s true, we are all worried about minding our own business, but how do you learn of others if you do not ask?” she raised a brow thoughtfully. “I am inquisitive by nature, I like knowing who I am around and details, it has saved my life countless times and it is a habit hard to break. Though I find many people do not like it here.” *** “Animals are still remarkable companions,” Lexa assured her with a bit of a smile. “I miss my horse some days.” She could always go to the stable and ride. Lexa hadn’t in quite some time, but maybe she should make an effort to change that at some point soon. The weather was chilly, but light ride wouldn’t be a bad thing and it might make her feel better. At the young woman’s words, Lexa nodded. “Knowledge is power in the end,” she agreed. “The more you know, safer you are in battle and in life in general anyway.” *** Violin nodded - “That they are. I am not sure if I would have gotten as far in life if my friend hadn’t had his dog, Ghost, and then I was given mine. She is special.” simply put, special was an understatement. Banshee could see spirits. It was a gift. And one that Violin used to her full advantage. “I have never been on a horse, they are often a little wary of me.” she said honestly - she wasn’t all human, some animals reacted poorly to that fact. Despite being the more gentle of her kind, she was still rather terrifying on the genetic level. Animals were smart. “Agreed. I don’t like being in any situation that would leave me vulnerable because I was missing something simple - such as an exit route. It would have gotten me killed a dozen times over, I think.” she shrugged a little as she stretched. “I should not keep you, though, unless you want to run against someone.” *** “Animals can often sense things that people simply can’t,” Lexa replied. She had no idea of the talents of Violin’s dog or how Violin’s presence seem to specifically frighten animals. She’d just known her share of animals that often knew people better than they knew themselves. It was remarkable what they knew about humans that a human itself could not sense or even know. “It’s up to you,” she offered with a shrug. “You’re welcome to join me. I don’t mind it.” *** “They certainly can, yes, animals are far smarter than humans often times, I think.” she said lazily before nodding, her lips curling up into a smile. “Alright, as you would not mind.” she pushed her hair back and smiled. “It would be my pleasure to run the course with someone else around. It is always better to push against someone else.” she tilted her head before smiling, content to spend the time working off things here. With this woman. *** “Let’s do it then.” Lexa returned the smile with a confident one of her own. “Let’s see what you got,” she added over her shoulder. The brunette took off, braids whipping in the wind, confident the other woman was no doubt beside her. *** Violin let out a laugh - enjoying the nature of the woman she just met then turned to follow, moving quickly. “You’re on.” she said as she took off with her, her own braid bouncing behind her, letting herself enjoy the run. It was good, to find people to challenge yourself against, Violin knew this. *** [Fin] |
