Who: Rogue & Sara Lance
What: A formal meeting
Where: Verdant
When: Monday evening
Why: Well, Lenny won’t introduce them
Warnings: None
Status: Completed Gdoc
Rogue had briefly made Sara’s acquaintance at the NYE’s thing, but it had been very brief as well, lots were going on and well, Rogue hadn’t been sure she was ready for that. She knew that Leonard trusted Sara, he’d only named them both to watch over his sister and that meant something. She wasn’t entirely sure what of course, but something. But she’d promised Sara that she’d come by again. And she kept her promises. So here she was, slipping into Verdant shortly after opening when she knew it’d be a little slower, on an off night anyway, and taking a seat at the bar. She wasn’t sure what was going to go down, but well, whatever. She really didn’t know where her and Leonard stood, but it couldn’t hurt to meet and potentially befriend his friends. It wasn’t like Rogue was swimming in her own group - she had her bestie, Johanna, and Lisa, and Dagny - she could afford to reach out more. She’d been in town long enough to stop being so hermit like. “Evenin’ Sara, told ya I’d come by, figured it was an off night, bound ta be slower.” she drawled out, her accent betraying a hint of her nerves. The more wary/nervous/frustrated/angry she was the more her accent came out to play. The to’s became ta’s, I’s became ah’s, and so on. It was the way the words rolled off her tongue, even if she projected nothing but confidence. Rogue was confident, and comfortable, she just wasn’t sure if she was supposed to be impressing Sara or what, it made her game a little off. ~*~ Ever since Lisa’s arrival in town, Sara had been curious about Rogue and her relationship with Snart. It took a lot for him to trust anyone at all, especially where his sister was concerned, so she knew that there had to be something going on there that she’d missed until now. It wasn’t jealousy that she was feeling, not at all. At least that’s what she was telling herself. No, it was simply curiosity about what kind of person would earn Snart’s trust in such a short amount of time. He was barely reformed from his thieving ways and the last thing she wanted was for him to find himself in trouble under the dome. She needed to make sure that Rogue wasn’t a bad influence. They’d managed to chat briefly on New Year’s Eve, but she was happy to see the other woman did actually stop by like they discussed. “You picked a good night,” she said. “What are you drinking?” *** Rogue was a horrible influence. Leonard was a bad influence. They were a matched set of bad influences. This was going to be awkward, though, rogue was smart enough to not do anything here in the Dome. Not really, anyway. The Fair didn't count right? “Let's go with bourbon tonight.” She had a feeling she'd need it. Rogue did make sure to keep her promises, she was honorable on that regard at least. “Ah figured it'd be a bit slow tonight. Off night and all.” *** “I think a lot of people are still partied out from the holidays,” Sara said. She remembered January being fairly quiet for the past couple of years so there was no reason to think this year would be any different. “I’m not going to complain. A little downtime isn’t a bad thing.” And it wouldn’t be too much of a hit on their bottom line. She poured two glasses of bourbon and slid one over to Rogue. “So, tell me about you,” she said. *** Rogue nodded lazily, she could get that.”Yeah, I can imagine everyone's ready for a bit of downtime.” She laughed softly as she took the glass from her. “Thanks.” She shrugged a bit, “what did you want to know? Originally I'm from Mississippi, I'm a mutant.” She lifted a brow at Sara, waiting to see what details she wanted. *** Sara was mostly curious about what attracted Snart to her and made him trust her, but she wasn’t going to flat out ask that question. Especially since it was entirely possible that Rogue wouldn’t know the answer. “A mutant?” she repeated. “Is that like a meta human? You have special abilities?” *** Rogue had an idea, but it wasn't something she was likely to share. “Mmm I suppose they must be similar in nature. I have special abilities, it's genetic mutation.” She figured Sara would ask about it. And got the second time this year already she was nervous. Would this woman, a friend to Leonard, be the one to try to push her away? *** “So what can you do?” Sara asked. She knew that some of the meta humans back home were dangerous, but not all of them and she was the type to stay open minded about that sort of thing. Besides, given her history as an assassin, she hardly had room to judge anyone. *** Rogue paused, then lifted a gloved hand. “My skin is deadly.” She took off her glove to flex her fingers. “My skin steals life, energy, powers, memories. The longer I hold on the more I get. “ she didn't add she put the first boy she'd kissed into a coma. “Normally, people are fine if a little tired for a few hours.” A shrug as she slid the glove back on, wiggling her fingers into it was comfortable. “I can use any ability I've taken. But I keep a remnant of the person in my head. The longer I held on, the louder they are.” She braced herself, and wondered why the fuck this month was bare her abilities month. “And no, I haven't touched Leonard, it's a shitty way to get to know people.” She knew they were friends, she was guessing why Sara wanted to meet her. *** Having Snart’s thoughts or memories would probably be rather terrifying so Sara was glad to hear that Rogue hadn’t touched him that way. And she actually didn’t want to know if there had been other touching. It was none of her business. “That sounds pretty unpleasant for everyone involved,” she said. She wouldn’t want to have someone else in her head in any capacity nor would she ever want to subject someone to her memories. *** She had worse memories in her head than she thought anyone here could give her, not much was worse than the things Logan had gone through, or her own. Rogue just blinked for a moment. That was not what she expected. “I think you might have just made the year's biggest understatement.” A bitter laugh as she took a sip from her glass, staring down into it like it held a mystery. **! Considering all the things that Sara had seen and done during her life, it took a lot to really shock her. She was well versed in dealing with metas and magic, had traveled through time and fought a telepathic gorilla, so hearing about life and memory sucking skin wasn’t really that startling. Especially since it was obvious that Rogue took care to prevent any accidents. Sara imagined that dressing the way she did in the heat of the summer would also be unpleasant. “I guess this is where I’m supposed to ask what your intentions are towards my friend.” *** Rogue only smirked a little at that. “Nothing bad, I assure you. I find him rather pleasant to be around.” she sipped her drink and looked at it for a moment, watching the liquid squirl. “I can’t say there are any plans or any intentions, I think we’re both just letting it go and see where it takes us.” She looked up at Sara, wondering if that was enough, she didn’t really have plans. She’d like plans, but she didn’t want to jinx herself either. She wasn’t an angel, and she was probably just as bad an influence on him as she was on her, but that was alright in her boook. ** That was an acceptable answer for Sara. It wasn’t like she was actually concerned that Rogue was going to do something that would harm Snart. He was an adult and could take care of himself. Mostly she was curious about the type of woman who attracted his attention. “Good,” she said. “He deserves to have some fun.” *** Rogue only gave Sara a little smirk - “Don’t we all?” She smiled, then, softened her look just a bit. “It’s a good place to start fresh, with new people and new experiences. I’m taking advantage of that and hopefully, so will he.” She ran her hand through her hair. “I hope, we’ll see I suppose.” she shrugged a touch, she’d been wearing the earrings he’d gotten her though, it felt good to be looked after. ** Sara nodded. “He seems to be, which I’m glad for.” She was also glad that Martin was here and getting a second chance as well. Just then, someone came up to the bar for a drink, so she offered Rogue a smile. “I should probably take care of my other patrons, but I’m glad you stopped by.” *** Rogue nodded a bit. “Good, that’s always a good thing.” she smiled and nodded. “Have at, I won’t keep you.” she polished off her glass. “Have a good night, Sara.” she set the glass down and got to her feet, disappearing through the few patrons as silently as she’d come, content that none of hte people closest to him were going to shove her out of the way. It was a good night. ** |
