WHO: Terezi Pyrope and Tom Lucitor WHAT: Getting slushies and chatting WHEN: Sunday WHERE: Convenience store in town WARNINGS: None really STATUS: Closed/Completed gdoc
Ever since Terezi went blind and learned how to 'see' by smell and taste, she had discovered a she liked how things smelled or tasted, especially red things. It had gotten to the point where she'd always ask what her friends' blood tasted like. And being that they were trolls, each of them had different color blood. Sollux's was yellow and smelled like mustard. Tavros' was brown and smelled like chocolate. Vriska's was colbat blue and smelled like blueberry bubblegum. Terezi's own blood was teal and had a minty bubblegum smell to it.
But her absolute favorite was Karkat's and the human's red cherry blood. It smelled so good but she never tasted it before. She wanted to, of course. She had asked but was always met with an odd look or a comment on how creepy she was. She didn't care, though. She was simply curious. So when Tom told her it didn't taste as good as she thought, she was a little disappointed. But that didn't last long when he suggested there's always red slushies.
So that's what she decided to do - get some red slushies. She sent him a quick text asking to meet at the convenience store they usually got them at. She arrived first and waited outside. It was pretty chilly out but luckily, she was used to the cold, having grown up on a planet that was usually cold and dark.
***
Tom liked getting slushies with Terezi. He liked spending time with Terezi in general because she was cool and pretty and didn’t see things in the boring way that most people in Madison Valley did. Most humans were just so painfully boring. Some weren’t, of course. People like Star were actually pretty cool. The problem was that they were really, really, really, really in the minority.
But Terezi was awesome, and any bit of time he could spend with her made him that much happier.
He was waiting at the convenient store when she got there, leaning against the building on the outside, making little flames with his fingers to entertain himself. His face brightened when he saw her and he started in her direction.
“Hey, there you are.”
*** "Hey," Terezi grinned once she 'saw' him. "I see you're doing your little fire trick thing again." She liked when he did that. It must be cool to have powers like that. A couple of her friends did, like telekinesis and mind control, but Terezi herself didn't. She was only skilled in manipulating people which she didn't think was a big deal.
"Come on, let's head inside." She grabbed his hand and lead the way into the store, heading straight for the slushie machine.
***
“Keeps me from getting bored,” he said. He liked looking at fire. It was pretty, and warm, and it made him feel super cool to be able to make it. Like, not everyone could do that. Actually, very few people could do that. But he thought Terezi and her ‘seeing’ was pretty awesome too.
He let her drag him inside and to the slushie machine.
“I don’t think I want a red one today. What would you do if I chose blue instead?”
*** Terezi got her cup and began filling hers with the red slushie already. She glanced over at him. "Well, I'll pretend to be shocked but really, I don't care what flavor you get." As long as she got her red slushie, she didn't care what he got.
So she put on a fake shocked face. "Oh my jegus, Tom! You're getting a blue one this time? I am so surprised!"
***
Tom couldn’t help but laugh at that as he grabbed a cup and poured his blue slushie. To be honest, he couldn’t really tell much of a difference between the different colors, but he guessed that was probably because he didn’t smell/taste/whatever like Terezi did. She was special. And he liked that.
“Good. Good shock. You should be shocked by everything I do.”
He was a demon, after all. And weren’t demons at least a little shocking?
*** She grinned. She liked making him laugh. Sure her sense of humor could be a bit macabre and odd, so it was nice when she could make anyone laugh. But especially Tom.
"Oh? And why should I be shocked?" Terezi asked. There wasn't really any demons from her world. Not like the kind he was anyway. She didn't know they were suppose to be shocking.
***
“Because I’m terrifying and evil, obviously.” He’d never really been able to convince anyone of that in his life, even back home where he had the proper horns and three eyes. People just weren’t afraid of him. He’d gotten used to it.
“And because I could totally kick your butt at ping pong.”
He was super good at that. Just ask Marco.
*** "Obviously," Terezi said, although she didn't really think he was that evil or terrifying. She finished filling up her cup and went over to the cashier. She also decided to buy a bag of skittles.
"Pfft, you wish you could kick my butt at ping pong," she said as she paid the cashier. "What's ping pong?"
***
Ping pong was awesome. He had trophies. Like real, honest to god trophies. And he had beat Marco at ping pong 56 times in a row which had been way, way more fun than exterminating him. After all, you could only torture someone to death once. You could humiliate them at ping pong infinite times.
“It’s a game. And I’m really, really good. Like way super good.”
*** "A game, huh? I like games." So as long as it didn't bring about the end of the universe. Sgrub was a big mistake and she wished she'd never played it sometimes.
"Do you have ping pong at your house?" she asked, opening her bag of skittles, offering him some if he wanted any.
***
“Yeah,” he said, taking a few skittles. He was careful not to take any of the red ones, though, since he knew those were her favorites. “I have it on my XBox but I also have a normal table in the basement.
“You should come over and play. I’ll go easy on you.”
*** Terezi had noticed he left the red ones and she couldn't help but smile a bit. It was sweet of him to do that. "Cool," she grinned. "I'd love to try the table one. I've never played before."
She sipped her slushie. It was cold and even more so when it was cold out, but she didn't care. "I'm not busy. We can head to your place now." She snorted. "Oh good, that'll make it easier for me to kick your ass."
***
“Dude, it will never be easy for you to kick my ass at Ping Pong. I am like...the best Ping Ponger in the whole Underworld. And in Mewni. And probably on Earth, too. But I can teach you, and maybe someday you’ll be almost as good as me.”
Almost.
*** "Well, lead the way then," Terezi grinned. Except she kind of did. She already knew where he lived, so it wasn't like she had to wait for him to show her the way.
"Oh hey, have I told you Dagny's my new moirail?" she asked as they walked. Actually, come to think of it, she wasn't sure if she ever explained the Quadrants to him yet.
***
“Er,” he said, blinking. “I have no idea what a moirail is.” It sounded like a monorail, just missing a few letters. But he was pretty sure that wasn’t what she meant.
Because that would just be weird.
*** Nope, it was not a monorail or anything close to it. Terezi wasn't quite sure what a monorail is.
"It's one of the Quadrants," she told him. "I guess I never told you about them."
***
“Yeah, what’s a Quadrant?”
Her world was so different than his that there were a lot of things that he didn’t know. But he was always willing to learn more. Because he liked her.
*** "It's like our romance system," she told him with a shrug. "I'm not good at explaining it but there's four types of romance trolls experience. The one we have is like Matespritship. Basically similar to human romantic relationship. Moirallegiance is more platonic where people look out for each other."
She took a drink of slushie. "And there's also Kismesissitude, which is like a hate thing. And Auspisticism, which is where another person makes sure a Kismesissitude get too out of hand."
***
“Oh, cool,” he said, trying to get those terms straight in his head. It was a little complicated, but he could handle it.
“I guess we just kind of have the same relationships and stuff as the Mewmans do.”
He wasn’t sure if that was by design, or just they way they were. Maybe sometime in the past, demons had cool relationships and stuff like that too.
“So what am I?”
*** She didn't blame him. The quadrants were pretty complicated, especially to non trolls.
"Star's a Mewman, right?" She might have heard the other girl mention something like that once but she couldn't remember for sure.
"You'd be my matesprit," she told him. "But if you want, I'll keep calling you my boyfriend." It didn't matter much to her either way. Just like with Dagny. Sometimes she called her her moirail, sometimes it was simply bff.
***
“Yeah, she is. And I really liked her for a long time. But...you know, sometimes things don’t work and it’s nobody’s fault. And I’m happier now.”
He wasn’t just saying that. He really was.
“You can call me whatever you like. Either one, if you want.”
*** "Yeah, it happens sometimes, I guess." Like with her and Karkat. There was something there and it could've been something, but it just didn't work out and both had moved on.
They made it to his house. "Alright, matesprit, time to teach me ping pong," she grinned.
***
Tom grinned, then led her into his house. Even if he had to play easy on her, this was totally going to be awesome. After all, she couldn’t be any worse than Marco. That would be impossible.
