Who: Rogue & Lisa Snart
What: Hanging out
Where: Lou’s
When: Evening, Sometime in January
Warnings: It’s rogue and lisa - language probably XD small violence because it’s rogue?
Status: Completed G-doc
Rogue was at Lou’s - she either spent her time at Verdant, Lou’s, the training courses or at work as of late. She’d spent her Christmas energy and was exhausted from working doubles leading up to New Years Eve then working doubles after New Years. She wanted to see no more prep or kitchen work for a week. Too bad she only had one day off and she was picking Lou’s tonight so she could just unwind without worrying about impressing anyone.
Lou’s was more low key than Verdant, and while she loved the other place, she needed the relaxing, gritty atmosphere of Lou’s. She was sitting at the bar, a whiskey in one hand, her other hand drumming annoyedly on the bartop as a man tried to hit on her. She only had eyes for one person, and even on her best days, she didn’t tolerate idiots.
She pulled her glove off, and reached up to touch his cheek in an almost endearing fashion, her eyes dark as she looked into his eyes. “Goodnight, Sugah” she held on, the man trying to backpedal away as she waited until he was dazed looking, then let go. The man stumbled away, clearly not having the best day of his life. She flexed her fingers and slid her glove back on then drained her glass in one pull. She had to shove the man, in her head, down and away because while she didn’t want him in there he was there now.
She tapped the bar for a refill then looked up. The only emotion that flashed through her eyes was an oh, shit moment as she realized her new friend had seen that. Well this was going to be an interesting conversation, now wasn’t it? “Hey, Lisa” she called out with a lazy drawl.
****
It was not shocking to spot Lisa seated at the bar...even during the weekdays. Tonight, she’d recently come off a particularly good heist. It was nothing big because Lenny had told her to be careful and smart about it because Barry Boo and the other hero types of the town might not take too kindly to Lisa helping herself to other people’s cash and credit cards. Being as it was after Christmas, there was a feast of gift cards to harvest and she had more than a few settled on the countertop in front of her as she lazily sipped a martini. Walmart? Target? Best Buy? Well, there was certainly choices and Lisa liked choices especially when she was running low on practically everything a person needed to live and function in this world.
Consumed with her temporary state of wealth, Lisa had failed to notice anyone else at the bar until a familiar voice and southern drawl managed to reach through the post-thieving fog. The brunette looked up, spotting the two near the bar. Rogue being attractive it was not surprising she had managed to get herself an admirer...even if it was obviously an unwelcome one. Also, Rogue being Rogue, she expected the other woman to knock the loser out, but when she did, it was not quite in the way Lisa expected. She watched Rogue pull off a glove (she’d always been somewhat curious as to why the woman was always so heavily covered) and touch the man’s cheek rather enduringly. A sort of glazed look came over his eyes suddenly and when Rogue let go, he stumbled away, lost in a sort of strange daze.
Finishing off her whiskey, Lisa watched as Rogue tapped the bar for a refill before she spotted the thief not far off. The look of obvious surprise was fitting as Lisa had absolutely no idea what she had just witnessed. Part of her believed Rogue was a meta-human, but Rogue was not from Lisa’s world so she wasn’t sure that was entirely accurate. Either way, let the conversation commence.
“Hey yourself,” Lisa greeted, gathering up her gift cards and stuffing them away in her pockets. Picking up her martini, she covered the short distance to the other woman. “You always leave guys looking like they just got a bad fix?”
****
Rogue recovered after a moment. Inconvenient, but it was bound to happen eventually, she hadn't really explained it to Leonard yet but he had a solid idea and knew enough to be careful and mindful for her. A few people knew her here, how untouchable she really was.
This was awkward at best. “Only the ones I touch bare handed.” She raked her hand through her hair then made sure both gloves were tightly in place on her hands. She flexed them before taking up her glass again. “He's just lucky I didn't want to have him any louder in my head, otherwise he'd be lying there taking a nap.”
She winced because she sounded crazy, then took a long drink. This was going to be rough. “I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess you have questions. Ask. I like you, I'll answer them.”
Rogue looked over at her friend, and not for the first time in her life, wondered if she was about to lose that friendship because she was not what she seemed.
***
And Lisa never thought anything would be more awkward than her stuffing a ton of gift cards into the pockets of her leather jacket, but seeing Rogue’s ability had indeed trumped that and much to her surprise too. Being from a city overrun with the metahumans, it was not as surprising as Rogue might think. Outside of Barry, Lisa had experienced more than one sort of “gifted” individual and though Rogue’s power was different than anything she’d previous experienced so far, it was not as hard for her to completely digest the existence of it. Yet, Lisa knew Rogue probably had not counted on having to explain herself to the thief and probably had yet to explain it to her brother either. Things like that tended to be complicated at their best and impossible at their worst.
At Rogue’s statement, Lisa slipped into a seat next to her. Despite what was just explained, Lisa found herself more intrigued than frightened of the other woman. No doubt Rogue was more use to the latter, but Lisa was a lot braver or a lot more foolish than most people. She tended to not think too hard before she leapt into something and maybe that was the case now, but she was always willing to take the gamble that it wasn’t. All of this was opposed to Lenny who preferred his control over the situation and a decent back up plan. “Well, shit,” Lisa replied simply and reached for her martini, finishing it off quickly just as Rogue indulged in her whiskey.
Lisa raised her glass, clearly for a refill of her previous drink, and once the bartender had taken it, she turned back to Rogue. “I guess I’m lucky you like me, huh?” Lisa replied, but it was more of a joke, a tease, than ever anything serious. “So, you like absorb people’s life or something if you touch them without gloves?”
***
Rogue laughed softly, she hadn't explained it to Leonard yet but here she was about to explain it to his sister first. The world was full of surprises and awkward conversations. Rogue knew that too much, had had them too many times. And she was used to people running from her not sitting down to ask questions.
“Any skin contact, actually. Life. Powers. Memories. Skills. Personality. I get it all. The longer I hold on the more I take. Not all fun and games though.” She ran a hand through her hair, untangling the shocks of white. “They call me untouchable.”
Rogue grit her teeth, waiting for it. For the rejection, for the panic, for the concern for her brother. She was used to it, it still stung, but still, used to it.
“It's unpleasant. I keep a piece of each person up here, forever.” She tapped her head lightly. “Unless it was a very brief touch anyways. Bonus is, I can draw on any power I've taken.” She focused for a moment, calling on Bobby’s power and coating the outside of her glass with ice. It glittered in the light.
She looked up at Lisa, and for the first time, she looked wary not confident. Cautious. She braced for rejection.
***
Lisa was not the average person. She was familiar with the different, possibly strange and weird that inhabited the world. She considered Rogue merely different though and not anything close to the other two adjectives. She possessed an ability, much like metahumans, and it was not something she asked for, but something she was born with or given unexpectedly. She doubted anyone would ever request themselves to be deemed “untouchable” and thus doomed to remain without actual human, skin to skin contact for the rest of their existence. The downsides seemed to heavily outweigh that one special bonus Rogue mentioned about being able to access an ability she’d gained from another. The idea of having another person in your head forever? That part made Lisa queasy because she couldn’t imagine sharing herself, her mind, with another person. It was all too personal and private; Lisa’s memories were rough enough without adding in someone else’s memories, too.
“It sounds like there is only one bonus to that,” Lisa replied quietly when Rogue finished. Her martini had arrived shortly into Rogue’s explanation and Lisa took a moment to reach for it now. Taking a sip, she eyed the layer of ice coating the outside of Rogue’s glass with curiosity more so than any sort of fear or anxiety. For one, if Rogue wanted to hurt Lisa she would have plenty of opportunities to do it and it was obvious that she did not hesitate to use her abilities if she found you unfavorable or bad. Rogue admitted to liking Lisa and thus, Lisa also knew she cared for Lenny as well. Leonard had been here much longer than she and so had Rogue. They had known each other for some time now. Again, if she wanted to hurt Lisa’s brother, she probably could have already. Besides, Lenny was far from as gullible as that foolish guy she’d almost put down a moment ago. If he knew he was in danger, he’d take extra precaution, regardless of the face the danger wore.
Swallowing, Lisa looked up at Rogue, noticing for the first time that there was a lack of that confidence in the other woman’s expression. She was wary and no doubt waiting for Lisa to reject her, to tell her to stay away from both Snart siblings, but Lisa wasn’t going to do that. How many times had she’d fallen on the wrong side of the tracks? Been refused, rejected for her past, for her stealing and thievery? Too many times and all of them were enough to make Lisa a veteran when it came to rejection too. Her brother fell in much the same light; they’d both received ultimate rejection from their father. Lisa was not about to do the same to Rogue even if it might end up costing Lenny and her heavily in the end. “I’m guessing this is the part where people tell you to stay away like the plague, but I’m not going to,” Lisa downed the rest of her martini.
“I like you Rogue. I just met you, but I trust you too. My brother trusts you and I know he likes you. If he didn’t, he wouldn’t let me even near you,” Lisa continued. “You trust me or you would not have told me all of that just now. I don’t know if you told Lenny, but regardless, I doubt he would have turned his back on you either.”
***
Rogue was used to sharing her head with dozens, if not hundreds, of others at this point. She had all kinds of people in there, some louder than others. Most were pretty quiet, only stirring when she ran across something that reminded them of themselves. That was the bonus of this place, not many people had memories tied to here. Though a few were still pretty loud and it could be pretty exhausting when they reared their ugly mugs.
She couldn’t look at Remy without cringing currently, for example, he gave her a boost. Her thief skills had had a fresh polish to them, as well as the added bonus of making shit explode. Kinetic energy was a fun one to play with. But it came with the former love of her life and it made her feel all kinds of complicated. Logan was always loud, but she’d nearly killed him a few times, he got to stay in there. She didn’t mind him much though his feral instincts got her in trouble a few times. She was, by nature, a violent woman - she liked punching people in the face. He only made that stronger.
Then there was the Hunger which flared when she had re-met Harry. That was annoying - Thomas was firmly in there, they’d hung on to one another way too long for anyone’s good. There was a flare of it as she thought about it and she tamped it down with effort. She sighed softly as she tried not to bounce her head off the bar. “Yeah, that’s about the only good thing about it. It’s handy and I wouldn’t give it away, it’s part of who I am, but it still sucks” she admitted quietly.
She nodded just a touch - “Usually the part where people either tell me to get the hell away from them or they find an excuse to get out of my hearing range, which, for the record thanks to one of those in my head, is a whole lot further than people think.” she said with a wince, having overheard what people said about her before.
Rogue looked at Lisa with a look bordering on disbelief, and something akin to relief. “He.. he knows a little, though, I don’t think I’ve ever gone into quite this much detail. And he’s never seen it in action.” she picked up the ice covered glass and took a long pull from it. “To be honest, I’m a little wary of showing him.” she didn’t want to push anyone further away. “I trust you enough, I don’t trust easy, I get burned pretty often.” see the distinct lack of friends she had in this town.
“But I trust my gut when it tells me I can trust someone.” she gave Lisa a bit of a lopsided half smile.
***
Lisa could not imagine having voices floating around in her head. Some days it was difficult enough to just deal with herself and her memories. Dealing with someone else’s memories? Feelings? Well, that just all sounded impossible to Lisa and she felt bad for Rogue. It was obvious the other woman had been dealing with it for some time, but she doubted you ever could really get use to sharing your head space with someone else, especially numerous someones that you may have only met once. She figured Rogue had just adapted to the situation and there was really nothing else you could do, was there? It wasn’t like you could get rid of your abilities because they were ingrained in your system. No, you could only live with it and hope the one perk could outweigh the bad stuff most of the time.
“Well, I don’t know about you, but I happen to think most people are stupid and like throwing stones at glass houses or whatever that saying is.” Lisa figured her brother would know it perfectly because he just knew everything. Lisa was lucky if she knew half of what he did her entire life. No, she was far from the brains of the operation and often considered herself merely the pretty face of the gang...if she was even part of it. Most of the time Lenny tried to keep her away from all of that because there was obvious risk of her getting hurt or worse.
“He won’t walk away from you,” Lisa said the moment Rogue finished. “When Leonard comes to trust someone, it takes a lot to push him away. Mick is a good example. He’s a handful and a half for my brother, but there is no one my brother would rather have to watch his back. It’s all about the trust factor for Lenny.” It was one of the things her brother and her had in common; when they can have a sense of trust with someone, there was nothing they wouldn’t do for that said person, but it took a lot for them to trust anyone. “You can trust me on that. Lenny will stand beside you till the end.”
With Rogue’s lopsided grin, Lisa returned it with a large grin. “Well, we may be thieves, but you can trust the Snart siblings to have your back.” The brunette could not help, but take out her gold gun and the grin turned wicked. “I find people are better to deal with in a shade of gold.”
***
Rogue had to laugh at Lisa’s metaphors, not bothering to spout off the real one. Hers was close enough to count. She relaxed, the tension bleeding out of her shoulders, it was a nice change of pace from the usual mob mentality. She ran her fingers over her glass, melting the ice away and leaned back to give Lisa her full attention, shoving the various voices who were telling her opposing things down and just letting them ramble. Why bother?
“It’s one of those things.” she waved her hand lazily, “I just get paranoid when I have to explain myself, after showing off what I can do. It’s something I keep under wraps most of the time because the headache that comes with? Really not worth it most days. And I’ve seen enough people run the other way to be a bit jaded about it.” she sighed a little then smiled. “But you’re right, not only because you clearly know your brother, but the gut instinct I keep trying to ignore agrees.” she laughed softly. “I just wasn’t willing to pay attention to it.”
“Hey, sometimes the bond between thieves is the best you’ll ever find - we know what it’s like to be at the bottom of the pile with no one but ourselves to lean on. Finding people to lean on, so to speak, is like finding that one perfect mark.” she smiled warmly then laughed. “I mean I kind of figured you liked gold but..”
She took a moment then - from hair to toe she went gold pulling on Lifeguard’s powers to do so. She didn’t hold it long, the looks were going to drive her nuts, but she laughed for a moment. “I can do gold.” she teased before letting the power fade so it was back to the regular ole southern belle.
***
At her words, Lisa immediately noticed the tension slipping from the other woman’s shoulders and she seemed to relax a bit. It was obvious that she was not use to people responding to her explanation of her powers very well. It was understandable; people often fear what they did not understand. Lisa was not generally one of those kinds of people. She didn’t possess any abilities aside from knowing how to wield a firearm and steal; those were pretty kosher compared to Rogue’s special skills. Still, they very often put people off to Lisa. After all, thieves were not known to be trustworthy or good people. Most people didn’t like to associate with her unless they themselves were of the criminal variety.
“People tend to suck like that,” Lisa replied bluntly. “I don’t blame you. You get enough of some type of person and you start believing that’s how everyone is.” Having been raised by an abusive father and then abandoned by that said father, she tended not to trust anyone outside of her brother, Mick, and very few others. She also learned quickly that being weak got you punished...severely. Vulnerability tended to damn you in more ways than one; if you wanted to survive you were tough, you were alone, and trusted no one. “You don’t need to ignore it anymore,” Lisa added with a reassuring smile. “He’ll have your back. He’ll understand.” Knowing about Rogue’s abilities would not chase Lenny away. It took a lot more than that to chase her brother away.
“It is kind of like finding the perfect mark,” Lisa agreed, slipping the gun away once more. “Yes, I love gold-” She broke off when Rogue invoked her abilities and obviously tapped into one of those she collected. The other woman became completely gold for a few moments and Lisa was definitely amused by the sight. “Well, color me jealous,” Lisa replied, chuckling. “Aw, you look good in gold though.”
***
Rogue liked the fact she could relax for the moment. It was nice, and it was a nice change of pace considering she lived pretty much on the edge of stress all the time. “They do, indeed, this is true. People don’t like what they can’t understand and I am scary, I know it. I’m dangerous, and people like that even less.” she said softly.
“I’ve been burned too many times to trust easily.” then she nodded a bit. “Maybe, we’ll see, I don’t know when the time will come up to show him, beyond what he’s already seen, but I don’t think I’ll hide it either.” she smiled up at Lisa, grateful for the other woman’s words. They were a balm for her soul.
“Yes, exactly like finding the perfect mark.” she laughed softly, seeing Lisa’s expression as she stretched her fingers, then relaxed. “Do I? I’ve never actually looked at myself when I’ve done it. But ususally I’m drawing on powers in the middle of a fight, don’t really get time to stop and look in a mirror.” she laughed softly. “Everything from my eyelashes to my toes goes gold, it’s a handy power, actually. Lifeguard is a strong, defense type mutant, she is a good friend back home. She just gets to be shiny gold. I have another, but he’s silver. It’s not as pretty”
***
“I think you’re mostly dangerous to those that deserve it a lot of the time,” Lisa offered. “I could be wrong, but I just feel like you only use them if you kind of have no choice...or some creep is hitting on you. That, you don’t have to apologize for. I’d do the same thing if I could.” Usually, Lisa enjoy attention from the opposite sex, but even she had to draw the line at some of them. Some were just downright disgusting or in the case of Rogue, handing out unwanted attention because they were creepy or downright disgusting. Lisa liked money, but not even she would have accepted that attention for some financial assistance.
The Golden Glider understood all too well what being burned felt like and she didn’t blame Rogue for being hesitant even with someone like Leonard. It was obvious she liked Lisa’s brother and whatever was going on, Rogue didn’t want to lose it. While Lisa knew her brother would live up to her words, she knew Rogue didn’t know Lenny like she did. She was jaded by past experience, but hopefully, Lisa’s response offered some comfort. “Well, when you tell him, let me know how it goes,” she replied. “If he doesn’t take it well, I’ll have to beat him up.” Yeah, well, Lisa was a fighter, but her brother was much better in that arena, but Lisa was joking anyway...hopefully.
“Pfft. Gold’s the best and I wouldn’t lie-well not to you,” Lisa replied with a wane smile. “He can so keep his sliver.”
***
“It as hard back home, so many wanted to use me as a weapon, not caring I'm still me. Being wary is a hard habit to break, there are a lot less people I fear here at least.”
ogue smiled at her words, “I'm sure it will not require that but it's nice to know you would kick his ass for being an idiot.” She smiled a bit more.
She laughed softly then let Lifeguard back out to amuse her friend, doing her best to ignore the stares as she went all gold. “Just don't try to sell me off like this.,” she teased..
***
‘Yeah, people here are friendly. It’s kind of scary,” Lisa joked. A random guy offering to buy her gold for Christma? Well, it was not something that ever happened before and yet she was starting to feel like the scenario was plenty common here. For Lisa, it was far, far from a bad thing.
Lisa shook her head. “I probably couldn’t do much damage anyway,” she replied with a bit of a laugh. “He taught me everything I know.” Leonard would certainly not allow his baby sister to venture into the world without some sort of trailing after all.
“I make no promises,” Lisa teased gently. “But as much as it might surprise you, I like you and I usually don’t part with stuff or people I consider my style.” Lisa looked over at the clock and then back at Rogue. “I suppose I should let you get back to your night. You know, before you get sick of me.”
***
“Well that's how it goes. It's alright.the offer is what's appreciated.” She smiled at Lisa then brushed a gold curl back. “I'm okay with being liked, but the same goes for you, I protect my friends with everything I have.”
She didn't have a ton of them, she kept the list pretty short but Lisa and Leonard were on it. “I won't get sick of you but I think I need to go take a hot shower and try to get this yahoo stuffed further into my head, the headache is killer.”
She pushed up to stand going back to regular Rogue. “Thank you. Your words mean a lot to me.” She smiled gently before she slipped out of the bar.
