Who: Klara Prast and Evan Hansen What: Swinging under the stars Where: Park When: Tonight, late Warnings: Evan is in a melancholy mood, but shouldn't be any actual warnings. Will update if he ends up talking about stuff. Status: Closed
Klara had messaged Evan about the New Year's Eve party, asking him if he was planning to go, offering to go with him if that would make it easier for him. He'd stammered his way through telling her he didn't think it was a good idea, that he and Turner were going to stay in and watch movies until midnight, that every other year he hadn't even bothered to stay up till midnight on New Year's Eve because his mom always had to work and he was home alone, and he didn't really care about the new year.
She'd asked him if he wanted to swing under the stars. He wanted to tell her no, he shouldn't, but he couldn't get the words out. He had a compulsion to please people and he'd already told her no about the New Year's Eve party. He didn't have it in him to say no again, he wasn't sure he was physically capable, so he agreed to go with her to the park.
He bundled up in his coat, with hat, scarf, and mittens and headed out to meet Klara. Part of him wondered what he was doing. he had no business going out in the cold. But the alternative was to stay home and sit alone in his room where Connor should have been. But Connor wasn't home, and wouldn't be home for a while, and as much as Evan wanted to sit around feeling sorry for himself, he knew Connor wouldn't want him to do that.
...At least the Connor in his mind wouldn't want him to do that. He had made the lie of their friendship so real in his head that he sometimes forgot those memories weren't real. They had made new ones, and they were definitely forging a true friendship now, but still. All the good memories Evan carried were lies he'd told Connor's parents, or Zoe, or himself.
He stuffed his hands in his pockets and walked with his head down against the cold until he got to the trees where he had first met Klara. "Hi," he managed with a weak smile of greeting.
