Who: Melinda May and Lucas Friar What: Talking about things Where: Their home (before the move) When: A few days after this (backdated) Warning: Probably low? Status: Closed/Ongoing
This place had certainly changed Melinda in some ways. She was still gruff at times and still placed walls up so she didn't have to deal with extreme emotion, but she was a lot more sympathetic. That's why she was feeling terrible for Lucas right now. If it'd been a few years ago, she would have told him to suck it up and deal with it, that he was too old to believe in Santa Claus. That wasn't the case now. She actually hurt for him.
She also felt bad that she had no idea he still believed. Maybe she could have warned him...or warned others not to let him know in such a callous way. Maybe it was because he was her kid now. Legally. She was being a mother who wanted to protect her child. It was a very odd feeling, but it was also something she knew could be possible. She did want to be a mom before Bahrain. She always did have that maternal instinct.
She decided one thing she could do to ease Lucas's disappointment was to get him a new phone to replace the one he'd thrown after learning the truth. Later that evening, after work, she went to his room, knocking on the door.
"Hey, can I come in?" she asked, hoping he was ready to talk.
