Christmas was okay. He wasn’t really into all the silly Peace on Earth/Love your Neighbor stuff, but getting presents was cool. And buying them for people you liked was pretty cool too. Terezi, thankfully, was a lot easier to buy for than Star ever was. Star didn’t like the same things Tom did. She didn’t like wearing spiders in her hair (it had been such a pretty one too) or a lot of the other things that girls, in Tom’s experience, should like.
Terezi did. Because Terezi was awesome.
He was still trying to find the perfect gift for her, though, and after a day wandering around, he still hadn’t managed to find it. That was okay. He still had lots of time left. Christmas was still weeks away.
Walking past Starbucks, he smelled the distinct smell of Gingerbread Lattes. Tom loved Gingerbread Lattes. And when he saw the red starbucks Christmas cups they came in, he knew Terezi would probably love one too.
So he ducked in and bought two of them, and a few moments later, was standing at her door, knocking, lattes in hand.
***
From what Terezi understood, Christmas was basically like 12th Perigee's Eve. Well, maybe not. There wasn't really much of the whole exchanging of presents and such. No singing, no movies. Just spending time with one's lusus, although Terezi didn't really spend time with hers because she was sleeping. For good reasons, though, so she didn't mind.
But she never celebrated earth Christmas before. From what she learned, it sounded like fun. Okay, so she just wanted a lot of presents. But getting new things was always exciting.
She was watching some holiday movie on tv when she heard a knock on the door. She wasn't expecting any visitors and wondered if Dagny or Vex was. Except neither of them were home, so she doubted it. She got up and answered it, then grinned when she 'smelled' Tom.
"Hey," she said, immediately kissing him. She probably should've waited since he had two hot beverages in his hands but she didn't care. She liked kissing him. "Whatcha got there? It smells good."
***
It was okay. Tom could deal with hot. In fact, a little flame erupted around his feet when she kissed him. He couldn’t help it; she did that to him. And he really liked being greeted that way.
“They’re lattes. Gingerbread. In red cups.”
He was sure she could tell that the cups were red, but he wanted to point it out anyway. It showed what an awesome boyfriend he was. Not that there was really any question about that.
“One’s for you. Can I come in?”
***
Good because Terezi liked greeting him that way. He had a taste that she couldn't get enough of.
She jumped only slight away from the flame. She was used to it, so she was quick to shrug it off.
"Aw, you shouldn't have," she smiled cheekily as she took one of the cups from him. "And of course you can." She stepped aside to let him in, closing the door behind him as she headed for the couch.
"Dagny and Vex are out, so it's just me," she said as she blew on her latte to cool it off a bit. "I was just watching this Christmas movie and-" she took a sip and forgot what she was going to say. "Oh my jegus, this is so delicious!"
***
“Right?” He agreed with her sentiments exactly. It was delicious. Super super super awesome delicious and warm in your tummy. How did it get any better than that?
He followed her to the couch and sat down beside her - not quite touching, but pretty darn close.
“We should do something fun for Christmas. And watch Christmas movies.”
He liked Christmas movies.
***
"Okay!" Terezi grinned. But then she stopped. "Uh, what do people do for fun during Christmas?" she asked. She never really celebrated Christmas on earth. She knew a bit about it from Dave and the others but not much.
"As long as we watched that movie with the green guy. He smells delicious."
***
“Hmm. I don’t really know. I know there’s a tree, and presents, and singing and food and stuff.”
It wasn’t like they really celebrated Christmas in the Underworld, either.
“The Grinch? Yeah, we can watch that. There are a lot of Christmas movies. I think there’s one called Die Hard that’s supposed to be exciting.”
***
"Yeah, that's what I've been told too," she replied with a shrug. "The presents and food sound good." She wasn't sure about trees being indoors or singing.
"Yeah, that guy! He's awesome," she grinned. "What's Die Hard about?"
***
“Terrorists, I think,” he said. “I don’t know for sure. But it’s some bald dude shooting lots of stuff up and killing people, so that’s awesome, right?” Tom certainly thought so.
“I mean if you want to watch sappy movies, I’m sure we can find those too.”
But he was pretty sure she didn’t want to watch sappy movies any more than he did.
***
"Sounds cool, especially the shooting and killing people," Terezi smiled. Yeah, Die Hard sounded like a movie they could watch.
She made a face. "Eh, let's skip on the sappy stuff." Trolls did not do sappy. They only did violence and gore. If there was a Christmas movie containing both of those things, she'd be interested.
***
“There’s so much of that,” he said. “And it’s totally a Christmas movie, too.” His very favorite one of all, because demons were rather fond of shooting and killing things too. “You’re so much fun.”
He felt he could really be himself with her, and not hide the parts of himself that made Star uncomfortable. That was so important.
***
I hear most Christmas movies don't have any violence," she said. But she didn't care. If Tom said it was a Christmas movie, then it was a Christmas movie. Probably way better than than usual ones too.
"I know," she grinned as she set her latte on the coffee table. "You're... not boring." She wore a serious face but only for a minute before she cracked up. "I'm kidding, you're awesome." She moved and wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing him on the cheek.
***
“They don’t. So most Christmas movies are stupid and boring.” That was said with absolute finality as if everyone knew that Christmas movies that didn’t include killing people were just absolutely boring and horrid in every way.
He looked offended for a moment until she cracked up and kissed him.
“Good, I hope you know that.” He was teasing. Sort of.
***
Yeah, the fact that he looked offended for a moment was what made her laugh. She was the teasing type and he was one of her favorites to tease. She may have said mean things but she never meant it. She was just having fun.
"I do," she replied, giving him another kiss on the cheek before she sat back. "Wanna watch something else?" she asked, gesturing to the tv that still had the Christmas movie she had been watching before he had arrived. "Ooh, maybe that Die Hard movie is on Netflix!"
***
“It probably is,” he said, grabbing the remote and switching on the TV. He did one of those annoying netflix searches, and found it, his face brightening immediately.
“We should order pizza first.”
***
She let him search Netflix while she sat back. It was when she 'heard' his smile that she figured he'd found something worth watching. "What? Did you find it?" she asked, blinking. He didn't say he found the movie, he just said let's order a pizza.
Which she suppose was a good idea. She was kind of hungry and as delicious as the latte was, it wasn't quite enough. "Let's do it!" she grinned before she went and grabbed her phone. She quickly ordered one, remembering which toppings Tom liked and made sure to get them. "It'll be ready in 30 minutes," she told him as she sat back down on the couch.
***
“Sooooo should we start the movie or do something else while we’re waiting for it to arrive?”
He actually hadn’t meant that as it sounded, but now that it was out, he wouldn’t actually mind spending the time kissing her.
***
"Hmm. Well, I'm dying to see this movie but doing something else sounds just as fun," she grinned. Kissing him was something she couldn't get enough of and so she moved closer to him so she could do just that, pressing her lips against his.
***
Tom liked kissing. A lot. He and Star had never done anything except that, and he figured it would be a while before he did anything besides that with Terezi too, but that was okay. Kissing was nice.
“Oh, we’re totally going to watch the movie,” he said, coming up for air. “We just need to pass the time until the pizza gets here.”
***
"It is a good way to pass the time, though," she replied with a grin, a little breathless from the kissing. Once she was good to go again, she kissed him some more. She hadn't realized how long it had been until she heard something. It took her a moment to realize it was knocking.
"Guess the pizza's here," she said. She wanted to continue kissing but she figured she should answer the door. So she got up and went to grab the pizza, paying the delivery man, and headed back into the living room where she set it on the coffee table.
“Smells good,” she grinned as she opened the box and grabbed a slice. “Now we can start the movie,” she said, gesturing for him to start it.
***
Tom thought the kissing went super fast too. Too super fast for his taste, but it was what it was. They could do it again sometime. Now was time for pizza and Die Hard. Kissing, pizza and die hard. How much better could an evening get?
