Who: Pietro and Birkhoff
When: Monday 20th November
Where: The Farm
What: Hanging out
Rating/Warnings: Low/None
Status: Gdoc
While Pietro and Birkhoff weren’t close friends he knew Alex cared about the other man so when she mentioned that he’d been a little down lately he had invited him to the farm for a day of video games and snacks.
It wasn’t often that Pietro slowed down and he would probably need to go for a run after sitting for a few hours but video games would help. He liked immersing himself in the story of the game, it was a fun thing to do.
He’d set out the bowls of snacks, some brought but some he’d made that morning after his run. Now he just needed a Birkhoff.
***
Birkhoff got out some these days, but not enough to really be considered sociable or good company most of the time. He worked in the lab and kept an eye on all the data points in the city just to see what information might be useful to certain terrifying Russian spies. They weren't all that terrifying these days, but still. Better to be safe than sorry.
He also wasn't really avoiding Alex, but he was giving her the space he thought she wanted or needed to keep living the life she was enjoying in Madison Valley. That was why he was a little surprised to get an invite to play video games with Alex's boyfriend, but hey. Video games were great all around and he was down for a chance to avoid Mal.
"Hey man," he greeted once Pietro opened the door after he'd knocked. "Ready to get your ass kicked?" Birkhoff wasn't going to go easy on him just because he was dating Alex after all.

Pietro knew Alex still cared about Birkhoff, even though they had made their life here in Madison it wasn’t like any of them would just forget everybody they knew or cared about. Though it was certainly complicated for Alex, more so than most.
Still Pietro wanted to help if he could and this had seemed like a nice way to spend a day. “Oh you are confident” Pietro grinned, “I like this. It will make it all the more satisfying when I am the one doing the ass kicking”

Birkhoff smirked. Trash talking was a big part of any gaming experience as far as he was concerned and if they could have some fun and bond, then maybe he'd feel better about how things were going with his life in Madison Valley. He was at least looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with Alex's people and this would probably make it all a little less awkward.
"We'll see about that," he replied as he followed Pietro over to where they were set up to play video games. When he saw the snack spread, Birkhoff whistled. "Nice spread? Trying to butter me up, eh?" He didn't mind. He liked being bribed in some occasions.
***
Pietro was new to the idea of trash talking but he was getting there with the help of Wanda’s husband, John. It was more fun than he’d expected it to be. And he was glad to see Birkhoff was willing to have fun with it too.
“I eat more snacks than the rest of the house combined so I try to make sure we are stocked up and I like cooking some too” he grinned, he was currently a fan of making cheese sticks and they were popular as well. “Perhaps if you eat too many you will be slower yes?” he chuckled.
***
He was going to learn plenty about trash talk because that was something Birkhoff excelled at. Plus, he was still sort of in a shitty mood overall so he was more likely to saying something a little too on point that could sting. He would do his best to curb it just because this was Alex's boyfriend, but that would only go for so long.
Birkhoff did chuckle at the thought of him going slower because he was eating snacks. "Something tells me that's more true for you, in which case, eat up," he teased right back, sliding the plate of homemade treats toward the other man. He settled in on the couch and grabbed one of the controllers. "Alright, what are we playing first? Call of Duty?"
***
Luckily Pietro pretty much let things like that wash over him, he wouldn’t take offence if Birkhoff got a little too close to the mark. Especially because he knew the other man was going through a tough patch at the moment.
“I can eat fast, never doubt that my friend” he grinned before nodding, “If that is okay? I thought it was a good one to begin with” And it was the one Pietro played the most with the other people who lived at the farm.

“Works for me,” he replied before he took a bite of one of the cheese sticks. It was actually pretty good. Birkhoff finished it off in another bite and then wiped his hand on his pants. Once the game was all set up, he began to navigate through the menus to pick their mission. Then he set up his player and grinned as he watched Pietro do the same.
“Nice choice there, pal,” he ribbed, already plotting the best way to achieve what he needed to while still kicking Pietro’s ass. “Before we start though, you gotta tell me. You get Alex to play these with you?” Birkhoff couldn’t really picture her playing a FPS after all the shit she’d been through, but then again, maybe it wasn’t so bad here in Madison.
***
Pietro couldn’t help grinning when Birkhoff ate one of the cheesesticks, he was particularly proud of getting the hang of that recipe and he especially loved using different cheeses.
“Some of them she is very good at, but this is not one she enjoys” Pietro told him, Alex could give Pietro a run for his money on a few different games but they were more problem solving ones or fun light hearted ones. “I think these games are too close to home perhaps. We can play something different if you feel the same” he offered.
***
"Doesn't bother me," he replied with a shrug. He'd started playing these games long before he'd ever held a gun, let alone fired it. This was normal to him, the other abnormal. He understood why Alex didn't play this particular type of game.
The screen lit up and their gameplay started, Birkhoff navigating the playing field with practiced ease. This was better. Low stakes. No one actually dying. The world was better when it was through a monitor.

Pietro had grown up in a war torn country so while guns weren't an unknown to him he hand't ever picked one up with the aim of killing somebody so he was able to play these kinds of games without any personal trauma. He knew that wasn't so for others.
He enjoyed playing the game with Birkhoff, the other man was obviously very good and it was only quick reflexes that saved him a few times. It was a lot of fun.
