Superboy smiled as he stepped through the portal with Diana. They had agreed to go through together, and so he could show her what he knew of the city. She had shared her world with him, and so it was only fair that he shared much of one of his with her.
“Welcome to Krypton.” He hesitated, then spoke again. “A few days before it died.”
He took a long breath. This world was special to him. After all, he had died to save part of it.
He looked over at Diana rather than at the soaring city and the dome above. “Not as pretty as Themyscira, but still nice, yeah?”

Diana enjoyed spending time with Superboy. He was a kind soul who had been through much and she could relate to that in many ways. Just as she had enjoyed showing him Themyscira, she would enjoy being shown Krypton. It was very futuristic in many ways, and what limited knowledge she had of Superman’s technology, she could see it reflected in small ways.
“It is beautiful,” she replied warmly, her hand giving his a gentle squeeze. “Thank you for taking the time to show me around,” Diana added, because she knew he had other things to do, likely people he wanted to see or places he might want to visit before it was all gone.
“It is hard to imagine a city so vibrant will not exist in mere days.” She spoke quietly, so not to alarm those who passed them by. “Where shall we stop by first?”

She saw the good in him when he even did not see it, every time. He felt himself more connected, more grounded, when he was around her, and yet, somehow more free, and he liked that. It might be possible that he liked her a little more, really.
“You’re welcome, Diana. It’s always a pleasure, hanging out with my favorite Amazon.” He nodded, liking that she was willing to take him seriously and not treat him as if he was Superman, junior.
“All things end, sadly, and it's weird, knowing that right now, I am out there, fighting for my life, and soon, in days, I will die.” He spoke softly, then smiled at her.
“I know a place I think you’ll like. The Crystal Falls. They are just inside the dome, to the west, and they are beautiful.”
***
"It is the cycle of all natural things," she replied. It was an effort made to be comforting, and an offer to carry some of that burden with him, if he so chose. She hadn't completely lost her home, but Themyscira was no longer her place in the world and she had not seen her mother for years before the brief portal excursion she had been gifted with. It wasn't the same, but she would be there for him and all her friends however she could.
"Are they made of crystal?" she asked, a grin playing at her lips as they headed westward toward the Crystal Falls. "Is there a great deal of naturally flowing and occurring resources?" Diana was very curious to understand how Krypton functioned because it was so very different from Themyscira and even Man's World.

Superboy gently squeezed her shoulder and nodded. “It is my choice. Past me knows the cost, and the chance, and chooses it. I could wish no better death, then saving an entire city of people.” He smiled to her softly. It was a good death.
“They are! Though water also flows across them. This planet has resources that make Earth’s look miniscule. Water, geothermal, hydroelectric, even wind and solar powered situations, flourish here. And energy sources not dreamed of by Earth science yet.”
***
“It is a good one,” she agreed. Diana valued people like Superboy, who understood the cost and was still willing to pay it. That kind of selflessness was rare and it was a trait some superheroes lacked.
She enjoyed looking around as they walked through the streets. The red sun of Krypton was much different from Earth’s yellow sun, but still just as beautiful. “I wonder if there is a way to bring some of that knowledge to bear in Madison?” She was thinking out loud, unaware of what all went into those systems.
***
Superboy flushed, then ducked his head. He didn’t find himself selfless, just dedicated. He had chosen when he had seen and felt the chains of others trying to enslave people. People deserved a chance to be free and to make choices, and Superboy would preserve them against all threats against them and that as much as he could.
“Maybe. It would be the work of years, not just to take equipment, but knowledge, as well. We would need schematics and something telling of the science. But… theoretically, yes? If the Dome allowed.” A slow smile spread across his face.
“An interesting endeavor, yes?”

"We likely only have a few days, perhaps a week, if it is anything like the portal to Themyscira," she mused. Diana knew there were some scientists in Madison Valley who were capable of such science, even if it would take them longer than it would for a Kryptonian scientist. Still, it would be worth looking into if they could potentially better the lives of those in Madison.
"I think it would be very interesting indeed," Diana agreed with a smile. Krypton was a city on the cusp of ruin and she thought it a shame that they could not do more for the world that proved Earth the House of El. They were an honored house and it was something of a difficult process to realize the House of El was not so treasured on this planet.
