Who: Sam Wilson & Jefferson What:> Matchup Where: The Park When: Morning Warnings: Not really Status: complete gdoc
Sam liked to do go out for a run in the mornings before work. It was a nice way to start his day and he was used to early PT from his time in the Air Force. He also preferred being out early because there were less people out and about. Though of course that wasn’t the case this morning. He groaned when he spotted a familiar face walking towards him.
“What the fuck are you wearing, Barnes?” he asked, stopping as he took in the odd outfit. The idea that this wasn’t Barnes definitely hadn’t crossed his mind, despite the fact that he’d run into other face twins in town.

Early mornings were good for clearing one’s head and gathering everything into one place before moving forward. It was also fantastic for taking in the fact that he wasn’t serving under the hand of Regina.
With one hand tucked into the pocket of his leather and brocade duster, he carried his third tea of the morning in the other. Glancing up at the voice, Jefferson grinned widely. “I suspect you’re referring to the gentleman who bears my striking resemblance. Jefferson. At your service,” he said, giving a slight but overly-animated bow.
***
The bow was a pretty huge clue that this wasn’t actually Barnes and it took a moment for Sam to comprehend what that meant. “Oh great, there’s two of you,” he said with a sigh. At least this one seemed slightly more well mannered.
“Sam Wilson,” he said, realizing he ought to at least be a little friendly and introduce himself. “Sorry for the mixup.”

“Nice to meet you, Sam. No hard feelings. Happened the moment I began poking around the network. I can’t even say it was a surprise to have someone who looked like me. Strange things have lost their effect.” Which happened when you lived in the Enchanted Forest, traveled through worlds, and then lived in a cursed town for twenty-some years.
“You’re one of those types, I see. The morning runner.” Jefferson was not.

“Uh, yeah, I guess I am,” Sam said. He should be more used to weird things after all this time, but they still managed to throw him off sometimes. Coming face to face with a Barnes face twin was definitely unexpected and something he could have done without.
This guy didn’t look like the type to exercise much at all. Something about the way he carried himself made Sam think that he abhorred physical activity. “I was in the military so it’s pretty ingrained to stay in shape.”
***
“Ah.” The military. The folks who kept the peace just the same. Those were the kind of people Jefferson usually ran from. Those and the local law enforcement. “I run enough to try and keep at least one step ahead of military. Not as much these days.” He paused and cleared his throat. “In fact, not at all.”
Because the last thing Jefferson needed was to get himself questioned, thrown into jail, or something along those lines.
“But thank you for your unrelenting services to the public.”

Back home, Sam would have definitely found the idea of staying ahead of the military suspicious and wondered what the man was hiding from. In Madison Valley, he knew that some people came from vastly different worlds and figured it didn’t much matter so he let the words slide right past him.
“I do what I can,” he said with a shrug. He didn’t considered himself a hero for his military service any more than he considered himself a hero for being part of the Avengers. “Have you been in town long?”
***
“Not too long. A month? Just long enough to get acquainted.” Or get into a bit of trouble here and there. Fortunately, Jefferson was keeping himself out of trouble. He was also keeping himself busy with his job. That was certainly good for him.
“The amount of ridiculous baubles people part with are keeping me busy and in business, so I can’t complain.”
***
Sam nodded. “Well, welcome,” he said. Now that he’d been here nearly a year, he figured it was fair for him to welcome someone else to town. “Where are you working?” It almost sounded like a pawn shop or something, but Sam wasn’t aware of one of those in town. Which wasn’t to say there wasn’t one.
***
“Green Roof Treasures. Best second-hand shop in existence.” Well, now that he was running it of course. He was gathering some employees, and that would certainly help things along. “So if you’re ever in the neighborhood, or need a new set of coffee mugs, you know where to go,” he said with a grin.
***
“I’ll keep that in mind,” Sam said with a smile. “But for now, I really should be going. It was nice meeting you.” Even though it was rather unsettling that he looked so much like Barnes.
