Who: Kurt Wagner and Finn What: Finn arrives in Madison Valley, injured. Where: In town, then the hospital. When: Sunday night. Warnings: Low, mentions of lightsaber wounds. Status: Closed | Completed GDoc.
Finn cried out as cold air hit him and he staggered to a lamppost, the lightsaber tumbling from his hands and going out. The feeling of his back moving as he grabbed it sent a scream through him. Oh god, that hurt. Lightsabers hurt! Shit!
With a groan, he collapsed to the ground, vision blurry.
“He-help. Rey? Chewbacca? Someone?” He tried to crawl to his lightsaber, but felt his strength leaving him…
***
Kurt had just gotten off work, when he heard a male voice scream. It wasn’t a scream of fear, or a scream of anything but…. pain. Yes, that was definitely an injured sounding scream, if Kurt heard correctly.
Then there was the voice again, trying to call out for someone. He didn’t recognize the first name, Rey, but he had heard the name Chewbacca before. He’d just seen a few movies recently with a character by that name in it. With Raven, his mother. He shook his head slightly, willing the memory of his mother away.
Within a few moments, Kurt located the source of the voice. “Hey,” he said softly, kneeling down next to the young man. His German accent could be strong at times, he knew this, and he focused on speaking as clearly as he could.
“What’s wrong? What happened?”
***
Kurt heard the voice and tried to lift his head, shifting forward, and falling on his belly. From this angle, his back was visible, and the long hot burn across his back from the lightsaber. He reached for the person he could barely see.
“C-can’t move. Need help. Need to help Rey. K-kylo hurt…” He groaned as he slumped again.
***
Well, fuck. This wasn’t exactly what Kurt was planning on doing immediately after work. But this man was clearly hurt, and he’d clearly just arrived in Madison Valley. “Hold on. I’m going to take you to the hospital. They’ll fix you right up, okay?” At least Kurt could get the man to the hospital quickly. There was that.
“Rey? Kylo? I don’t think either of them are here. I’m sorry.”
He bent down, and wrapped his arms around the injured man. He tried his hardest to not cause the other any unnecessary pain as he did so. “This might upset your stomach a litte,” he warned. With a soft bamf and the smell of brimstone appeared, and within a moment Kurt had teleported himself and Finn to the hospital.
Inside the hospital. Well, Erik might be pleased that Kurt was able to teleport to the inside of a building, under pressure. “Help,” he called. “This man needs help.”
***
The nurses and doctors responded quickly, some looking him askance, but most used to the odd looking and odd occurring by now. A doctor asked him brief questions and Finn was rushed off. They asked him to stay in case they had questions for him.
Nearly a half hour later, and a nearly freak chance treatment, and a nurse came to tell Kurt that his friend was awake and could see him now. Finn was currently just waking up, his mind slowly growing clear and he was laid out on his back, his entire backside slathered in ointment and bandages, and on some very nice drugs.
***
Of course Kurt had waited to see if Finn made it through okay. He couldn’t just abandon the man now, after making sure he arrived at the hospital on one piece. He nodded slightly when the nurse came to tell him that he could go in and see Finn, and he rose from his spot in the waiting room to go to see the man who had just arrived in Madison Valley a little less than an hour before.
“Hey,” he said, when he stepped into the room. “Feeling better?”
Well, he had to be feeling better, now didn’t he? Anything was better than how he’d been before, Kurt imagined.
***
Finn’s face split in a huge smile, and he spoke, his voice a little slushy from the drugs. “Yeahhhh, man! They gave me… something or other, and I can’t feel my back… or my legs.”
He grinned goofily. Then he squinted and tried to banish the silly feeling. Man, these drugs were good! He felt so good. It was easy to just float and… no! Focus!
“Thank you. They told me you got me here.”
He spoke each word slowly, enunciating carefully. It was not easy to talk straight.
***
Kurt had to laugh softly at Finn’s reaction to the drugs. He assumed that they either didn’t have the drugs where FInn was from, or he’d not experienced them before. “Well not feeling your back is probably a good thing. I mean, I saw the state of your back before you got here, not very pretty.”
He nodded at Finn’s next words. “I’d just gotten off work. I heard you yelling, and thought something may be wrong. Then I saw you, and decided something definitely was wrong”
Kurt could tell that Finn was having trouble forming words, that was likely due to the medications that the doctors had given him. “I’m Kurt Wagner. You’re in a hospital in Madison Valley, and none of us can leave, so…. Yeah. Welcome to the stuck-here club.” He’d never thought he’d be a part of the welcoming committee in Madison Valley, but when one encountered someone when they first arrived here, he supposed it was the thing to do.
“I suppose you’ll need a place to stay, after you are released from the hospital. I have an extra room, if you want.”
***
Finn groaned and listened, nodding. “Thank you. I am still pretty groggy, and not sure what is going on, but… thank you.” He tried to follow that, and blinked a lot. “I… will probably need to hear that again when I am not on so many drugs. I… don’t think I followed like any of that.”
He was still really woozy.
“Where is Madison Valley? What part of the Galaxy is that in?” Surely he couldn’t be too far away from where he had been, right? Somehow, he had ended up here, and he needed to get word back home.
“Is there a starport nearby?”
He blinked. “Thanks.”
***
He shook his head at the questions Finn asked. “It’s part of the Milky Way galaxy, if that helps any. There are those here who’ve never heard of this galaxy before, though, or this planet. It’s Earth. Madison Valley is in Indiana, which is part of the United States. A country on this planet.”
Kurt settled down in the chair beside Finn’s bed. “There’s not a starport nearby. There’s really nothing nearby.” He had no idea what a starport was, but he was relatively certain that there was not one in Madison Valley.
“How did you get hurt? You mentioned some people before I brought you here. Rey and Kylo I could make out, and then before I saw you I heard you calling for Chewbacca. That was the only name I recognized, but he’s not here. I don’t think Rey or Kylo are here, either.” He bit his lip lightly, studying Finn. He knew where he’d heard the name Chewbacca before, but he wasn’t about to tell Finn it was from a fictional movie. “I think there’s two people with the last name Skywalker here, though, does that name sound familiar?”
***
“The what?” Finn just listened, and got more and more confused. Everything the guy said seemed to be more confusing and strange. “I don’t… that’s impossible. How did that happen?”
He shook his head, trying to focus on Kurt, trying to steady his voice from the blurry and fuzzy sound it was making. He felt completely good, but also woozy.
“Was helping defend Rey against Kylo Ren. She was hurt by that bastard of a renegade. Trying to drive him back, but he got me, cut me across the back, I think, and then it all went dark and I was here.” he winced in memory, but he felt no real pain.
“Skywalker? Like Luke Skywalker, the legendary Jedi? Is he real?”
***
Kurt considered this. Was Luke one of the Skywalkers in Madison Valley? He had a feeling he was. “Yes, Luke. Luke Skywalker, Jedi. And Anakin Skywalker, his father, I believe. Though not Darth Vader. Anakin. Be sure to remember that.” Though Kurt was from the early 80s, he had seen all of the Star Wars movies except The Force Awakens and Rogue One. Which explained how Kurt knew of the Skywalkers but not Finn or Rey or Kylo Ren.
“I am certain Kylo Ren and Rey are not here, though. Just the Skywalkers, and I think Luke’s mother.”
He knew this must be confusing for Finn, and he would explain the best he could. He just didn’t know how much of Madison Valley he truly understood, or whether he’d be able to explain properly.
***
“I… Luke is here? No one knew where he went! Back home, there is like… bad stuff going on. I need to talk to him, and to tell him that he is needed.” Finn made as if to sit up, groaned and lay back.
“Okay, even the good drugs have their limits. No sitting yet.” He felt like he had been kicked in the nuts.
“Skywalkers are good. I don’t know how much of that could work, but that much is good.” he glanced around as much as he could without moving the rest of his body. Where is this again, this Madison Valley? How did I get here?”
***
“Yeah, Luke is here. As are his parents.” He shrugged a bit, “I am not sure where he went, to be honest. All I know is he’s here. There’s also a droid here, I think they call him R2D2.” He’d seen the little blue droid around occasionally, usually tagging along with one or both of Luke’s parents. Who were younger than Luke here. Strange.
“I can get Luke to come by, if you want, but you should stay in bed for a while. At least until the nurses and doctors say you can go home.” He wasn’t completely sure he could get Luke to come to the hospital, especially if Luke didn’t know this Finn, but he thought he could. Finn was from Luke’s world, Luke might be interested to meet him.
He remained silent for a bit, as the other man spoke. “Skywalkers are good, yes. Anakin… he becomes Darth Vader in his future, but he’s good here. Or, he hasn’t caused any trouble, so I’m assuming he’s been good.” Now came the difficult part.
“I honestly don’t know, Finn,” he admitted. “I was just as lost as you are when I arrived here, just not injured. I came from a time about thirty years in this world’s past. 1983. It’s 2017 now.” He sighed softly. “All I know is that we’re here, and we can’t leave willingly.”
***
Finn nodded, listening, wanting to understand. He fought the drugs some, and tried to get a little clearer on his understanding. “This all sounds a little crazy.” he was distracted a moment later, grinning. “R2D2 is here too? He’s aso a legend!” He nodded, listening and wondering.
“I can stay in bed, and should probably wait to see Jedi Skywalker until I can stand. Seems rude to ask him to come here when I can barely focus.” He tried to focus on Kurt. “Thank you. Thank you for answering my questions. I might have to… to ask them again when i am not on nearly so many healing drugs. I feel like I am missing a lot of what you are saying.” he nodded a little, then lay back.
“Trapped in a new world, with some strangers and some legends. I have a feeling I have a whole lot to learn.” Which, considering his life, was about what he expected.
***
Kurt nodded, “Yeah, of course. That medication they gave you, probably has you all fuzzy in the head, doesn’t it?” He’d not had the strength of painkillers that they’d probably given Finn, but he had an idea of what they did. And how they made a person feel.
“There is a lot to learn here, and I’m willing to answer any questions you may have. And my offer of your being able to use my spare bedroom when you get released from the hospital is ongoing. I just know it gets kind of lonely, living by yourself in a new place.”
***
“Fee-feels like it, yes.” Finn was completely whee. It was an odd sensation and feeling, and he had never known anything like it. “Thanks, man. I’m Finn, if I didn’t say before.”
He squinted, trying to remember. “You’re Kurt, right? Thank you, Kurt, for the advice and the help. “
He nodded, and smiled a little. Maybe he would feel better tomorrow? Maybe.
“I my have to go sleepy by, I think, here.”
***
He nodded, “Kurt Wagner. And you’re Finn,” he said with a smile. He’d managed to get that much out of Finn, anyway. And at least he pretty much knew what kind of world Finn was from, if the movies Kurt had watched were any indication.
“Yeah, definitely,” Kurt agreed. “Go to sleep. I’ll leave my number at the nurse’s station, call me if you need me. Or have them call me if you need anything. I’ll usually be able to come immediately after the call, if it’s important.”
Kurt was planning on letting Luke or Anakin know that there was a person from their world here, but he wasn’t sure when that should happen. He knew Luke probably would be the best option, as Finn had at least heard of Luke before. Well, there was still time for that.
“Get some sleep, I’ll come by in the morning.”
***
Finn nodded and smiled as he curled up just a little, not too far, closing his eyes again. Okay, he could deal with that. Kurt was a good guy. He waved at Kurt and nodded, closing his eyes and hoping that he would get a chance to talk more in the morning. He could do that, right? Right.
Okay, yes, time to sleep.
“Night, Kurt Wagner. Yer a lifesaver.”
***
Kurt smiled slightly at Finn’s words. Finn seemed like he was a good guy, Kurt hoped that Finn wasn’t part of the Dark Side or whatever. He generally had a good sense of who was good or bad, though. He was sure if there was something off about the other man, he would have sensed something amiss.
