WHO: Pietro and Superboy WHAT: Random encounter/Matchup WHEN: Recently WARNINGS: None STATUS: Closed and Complete
Pietro had been running as he did most days when he spotted something he definitely didn’t see most days. A flying person. Now true with the kind of abilities found around town it wasn’t too much of a peculiarity but it certainly intrigued Pietro. Enough to follow said person until they landed anyway.
“I am not usually jealous but I wish I could fly” he said with a grin as he came to a stop.
***
Superboy smiled at the other man. He could totally understand that sentiment and he nodded. “Well, I spotted your speed there, while you were moving around. I have to say, I would love to have your advanced speed and control. That has to come in handy, in life.”
He waved a hand upward. “Flying is mostly fun, here, not terribly useful.”
***
Pietro grinned, “It is handy” he agreed, “Though I frustrate others when I cannot go slowly for anything. Does flying need to be useful?” he asked, “Is it not enough to just be fun?” It was an honestly inquisitive question.
***
“I suppose it is enough, most of the time. It is just somewhat restricted here. Feels almost a waste to fly, when you can’t fly for long.” He shrugged.
He nodded. “Does having the speed making you want to use it all the time?”
***
“Ah I see, yes that would be frustrating” Pietro said nodding in understanding, simply flying would not be enough in the same way that simply running would not be for Pietro.
“Most of the time” he said, “Things feel so slow when they are moving in normal time”
***
Superboy nodded. “Sounds like a pain in the ass to deal with the rest of us. Sorry, man.” He would have to try and see if he could step it up himself.
“What do you do when not talking to slow people?” He grinned warmly.
***
Pietro shrugged, “It’s okay. I have learnt to cope with it, my sister and friends help” he smiled, he had a pretty good handle on it now. Distractions were always good. “I deliver pizza in the evenings, fastest delivery you’ll ever get” he winked.
***
“Good. People we care about help, I think, a lot.” He had a couple now, and he liked it that way.
Superboy laughed. “Good to know. I’m still trying to figure out what to do as a job here, personally.” He had thought maybe construction or firefighting. But he wasn’t sure.
***
“They do” Pietro nodded, he would have gone stir crazy without Wanda around and now he’d be lost without Alex too. He had a good set of friends here and he was grateful for them.
“It took me a while and it may not be the most important job in the world but it works with my speed” he said, he couldn’t think of anything else which would do so.
***
“Good. I’m sure I’ll find my own way, eventually.” Superboy nodded. “For now, I am just enjoying this place, and all it brings. Even when it is not the best of things, it is interesting.”
“What do you do when not delivering pizzas and hanging out with family?”
***
“You need anything just ask, I’ll help if I can” he offered, “Interesting is definitely the word for this place” he smiled.
“I cook a lot, it’s the one thing that slows me down and I don’t mind. I’ve learnt a lot since I got here” He’d never really had the chance much back home but here he’d found a passion for it.
***
“Thank you. I will remember that and appreciate that.” He nodded, smiling in gratitude. That was a nice thing about this place, lots of helpful people.
“I’ve never learned how to cook, myself. I can manage things with clear instructions that aren’t complicated, but that is about it. What got you into it?” He was curious now.
***
“My sister and I came from a place where our lives were simply about survival, when we got here and were given the opportunities we didn’t have cooking was one of the first things which interested me” he replied, “I am lucky that I have made many friends here who are very good cooks”
***
“I’m glad you‘ve found a home here, and one that is good for you. I wish more people could come here, and see some of this.” He liked the place, despite the weird.
“My world is constantly full of danger and strangeness. I find I am enjoying this new space.”
***
“As do I” Pietro said, after all back home he was dead and if there were others like him he wished they could all come here.
“I know what you mean. It is nice to have time for things other than fighting and peril”
***
Superboy smiled, thinking of people he would wish were here, as well. He was missing his friends, a lot.
“Exactly. Back home, too much happened, and I got confused, easily. Here, I feel more centered, more peaceful, more human.” Which he was not, but yes.
***
“Then I am glad you are here” Pietro told him, “And not just because you have a cool flying ability” he added with a more teasing smile. “If you would like to come to dinner sometime I can introduce you to everybody”
***
“Thank you..” And he chuckled at the comment about his flying. “I would be glad to. If you’ll let me contribute somehow, at least?”
He had no idea how, mind you, but he felt like he should try.
***
“If you would like to learn I could teach you to cook, or you could just bring dessert. The bakery has the best cakes” he grinned, either option worked for Pietro, “Though you do not have to bring anything. We like having people around the farm, we’re a kind of random family”
***
“I could do that. I can bring dessert. And perhaps, sometime, I could learn from you, yes.” A new skill like that would be worth its weight in gold. “I do not know how I could pay you back for such a thing, though.”
Superboy smiled. “I will be glad to join you, then. To meet this family of yours.”
***
“It would be fun, no need to pay me back for anything” Pietro said, if he could teach his new friend a skill which could come in handy then he’d be happy.
“Good, I will check when is best for everybody and let you know. Oh!” he said remembering, “My name is Pietro” he had gotten too carried away after he had seen him flying and forgotten to introduce himself.
***
Superboy smiled. “Thank you, Pietro. I can’t say I have a lot of friends, but I would be glad to call you one.” He offered his hand to the other.
He smiled again. “That sounds good. My name is Superboy, but most people, they usually call me Conner.”
***
Pietro shook his hand, “I would be glad to call you friend too” he replied with a nod.
“Superboy, I like this” he grinned, “But Connor is easier perhaps”
***
Superboy smiled as they shook hands and nodded. “Whatever works for you.” He was agreeable. And resigned.
He had a feeling this could be a good person to know, a good friend, to know. He hoped so. He could use one.
