WHO: Merlin and Phryne WHAT: Fireworks before the fireworks WHEN: July 4th WHERE: A restaurant WARNINGS: Innuendo and flirting STATUS: Closed and Complete
Merlin smiled as he stepped to Phryne’s door and knocked. He was dressed in a smart, well fitted suit, dark blue in color, which, when you looked at it just so, shone as if stars gleamed in it. He was holding a single long stemmed red rose, and had already been enjoying himself. It was just past seven, and if all went well, a leisurely dinner in the company of the very lovely woman would segue into a night of fireworks, perhaps of many kinds.
He smiled as he waited for her to answer, content with this evening, the 4th of July.
***
Phryne opened the door and smiled up at Merlin. She was also dressed in blue, though her selection was a bit brighter and had splashes of white designs of something or another throughout the soft cloth. She had dressed carefully -- as always -- and she let her eyes rove over Merlin’s attire as well.
“I see that we both had the good taste to decide on blue for the evening, my dear,” she said with a smile.
She was quite looking forward to the evening and any or all of the fun they could find for themselves.
***
“Hello, milady.” He held out the red rose, and nodded. “Tis a pleasure to see you. I brought this for thee.” He was hoping she might enjoy it.
He had been looking forward to this for quite some time himself. He felt a bounce in his step as he looked on her, a beautiful woman.
***
Phryne’s smile got brighter as she accepted the rose and sniffed at it appreciatively. “Thank you, Merlin. The rose is as beautiful as you are.
Phryne did not believe in holding back words or compliments and she did indeed think that Merlin looked very beautiful tonight. She was most assuredly looking forward to spending time with him.
***
“I, and the rose both, thank thee for the compliment. We are inspired by thee, dear woman, and I look forward to giving you a very good evening in return.” He lived to return compliments, especially when, in truth, the giver was amazing in looks and Spirit.
His grin was warm, a little suggestive, and welcoming. “Shall we go have some fun, my very pulchritudinous woman?”
***
“I do appreciate a man with a gift for languages,” Phryne said as she looked him over with a smile. “Gifted tongues are always so much fun to spend time with.”
Phryne did not shy away from the act of double-entendres.
She placed her hand on his arm and nodded. “Lead off, my most brilliant gentleman.”
One could not blame her if she hoped that he would not be too much of a gentleman as the night progressed, correct?
***
Merlin's grin only got wider as he nodded to her. “I do consider myself to be skilled with my tongue and fair with it, willing to share it with those like yourself who inspire me.”
He took her out and grinned. “Do you believe in magic”
***
“Oh, Merlin, I do believe that you and I are going to have the most amazing night.” Phryne said, happy that her kitchen was stocked with good champagne and that new caviar she had found at that store that was much more expensive than was proper.
She tilted her head and smiled at him. “I most certainly do.”
***
“I sincerely hope I can make thy night a good one, milady.” He grinned, looking forward to it.
“Then trust me, a moment only and let me show you a way to go.” he waved a hand, and the doorway shimmered for a moment, then, instead of a door, there was simply an opening that led into a restaurant beyond.
“I will not lead thee wrongly.”
***
“I have no doubt that you very much will,” Phryne said sincerely, as she believed that they would have an amazing night together.
When he spoke of trusting him she opened her mouth to assure him that she did so, only to stare in surprise as a door suddenly appeared.
“That is definitely a handy ability to have, my dear.”
***
“Magic, like any other tool, can be fun, and can be applied to make even more fun.” He led the way through, and to the restaurant, where they were quickly seated.
“Please, tell me something of what you like. Food, drinks, hobbies, whatever enters your mind.” He settled so he could look at her, but also so he could touch her hand. Merlin was a touchy feely kind of person, in a sensual sort of way.
***
Phryne had no problem just talking to Merlin about anything and everything that came up while they were having such a lovely dinner. She was also quite a touchy feely sort of person, so she enjoyed the fact that he was as free with his touches as she was with hers.
“I do believe that my favorite drink is a nice bit of absinthe, though you apparently cannot get that here. Second to that is a nicely aged bottle of wine or champagne.” She grinned. “Unless it’s horribly early in the morning that I am being roused from bed, and then I must have strong coffee.”
***
“I’ll remember that, should the moment come to wake you properly.” His smirk was decidedly improper.
Talking to Phryne was enjoyable, and thought-provoking and curious-making, and by the time dinner was done, he had found himself smiling a lot, and talking more than his usual, and she had managed to intrigue him, arouse him, and inform him. And he was fascinated.
As he paid and they rose, he offered her his arm again.
“Shall we go see what trouble we can get into?” His grin was almost as improper as his smirk had been.
***
“I would hope that if you are there at such an early time of day then coffee would not be the first thing you would think of in an attempt to wake me up,” Phryne met his smirk with one of her own. It had been far too long since she could let loose and be herself and it was a nice feeling.
The fact that Merlin not only seemed to enjoy it but also encourage it was icing on the cake.
At his question, Phryne allowed one of her slow smiles to cross her face as she placed her hand on his arm.
“My dear, you are speaking my language.”
***
“I would be very glad to do so. I think such a morning would bring some very good ideas how to wake you, and very different thirsts and hungers.” He smirked at her and surveyed her openly. “And those thirsts and hungers sound like fun.”
He snapped his fingers and a doorway opened toward the park where the fireworks were going to be set off, onto a roof near there. There, as he led her in, there was a table set up with wine waiting, and a lounge big enough for two, with candles everywhere. “I thought we could enjoy the fireworks in comfort…”
He winked at her, then drew her in for a long kiss.
***
Phryne enjoyed the way that he was looking at her and made sure that she was looking him over just as openly. There was something so liberating and breathtaking about being able to speak honestly about what you desired.
“Merlin, those thirsts and hungers do indeed sound like fun and I think we would quite enjoy sampling all of them.”
When she saw the room that he had arranged for them, she couldn’t help but hum in satisfaction. “I believe that you are getting to know me quite well and I do love my comforts.”
She probably would have said more, but that was when Merlin kissed her.
She wasn’t even aware of the first firework going off outside.
