WHO: Jason Grace and Lindsay Weir WHAT: A flying date and a first kiss WHEN: Monday afternoon WHERE: The park, in the air WARNINGS: Low STATUS: Closed/Completed Gdoc
Jason had taken it pretty hard when Reyna had been sent back home. Even though he had never felt anything romantic for her, she had long been his closest friend and he had been desperately hoping to heal the wound that his blindness had opened between them. Now he wouldn’t have that chance. Thankfully, Thalia was still here, but Reyna’s loss had definitely been a blow.
Trying not to think about it, he’d grabbed a pizza and made his way over to Lindsay’s. She was only his second real girlfriend and he really hoped that he wouldn’t screw things up like he has with Piper. But so far, things seemed to be going well, so he was going to cling to that.
He knocked at her door, then waited, hoping she would answer, even though he was quite fond of her guardian as well.
***
He was in luck. Lindsay was the only one home at the moment, so she was the one there to answer the door.
"Hey, you," she said, brightening upon seeing who was standing there. She tended to be apathetic about a lot of things, but Jason was not one of those.
"What brings you by?"
***
“Just thought maybe you’d like to do something?” He said, grinning. “Like a movie or something.”
Then he hesitated.
“Or...I could take you flying. It’s a super nice day.”
***
Lindsay knew exactly what her answer was going to be.
"Movie or flying?" She grinned. "When those two choices are presented, there's only one answer."
There was a little nervousness and excitement as she said, "I think I'd like to go flying."
***
He smiled; that was what he’d hoped for.
“I won’t drop you. I’ve never dropped anyone before.”
And he definitely wasn’t going to drop her. He liked her way too much for that.
***
"That is very good to know," Lindsay said, nodding. "I like not being smushed on the ground."
She was only being silly. She knew he wouldn't drop her. She trusted him.
It was nice to be dating someone with super powers.
***
Jason liked that she liked that he had powers. Among the demigods, everyone could do something, so it was a bit less special. But with Lindsay...well, it was all new to her.
“Right, so flying now, and then we’ll get food after.”
***
Lindsay smiled. "Sounds good. Lead the way."
She figured there was nothing like flying to get the appetite going, so food afterward sounded perfect. Well, unless she felt like throwing up after flying, but she hoped it wouldn't come to that.
How embarrassing would that be?
***
Jason didn’t usually make people sick with his flying. He had good control of the winds, as a son of Jupiter, and his ascent and descent were usually quite smooth.
He led her into the woods, to a private clearing.
“Are you ready?”
***
Lindsay looked around the clearing, glancing at the ground, knowing she was about to leave it for a little while. Then she glanced up at the sky. The excitement she was feeling was competing with nervousness, but it seemed to be winning.
“Ready as I’ll ever be.”
***
Jason was gentle as he wrapped his arms tightly around her, manipulated the winds around them, and slowly lifted them up into the air.
Up, up, up they went until they were even with the tops of the trees.
“Look,” he said. “Isn’t it pretty up here?”
***
Lindsay had been covering her eyes just for a moment, afraid to look. She’d never been this high before out of an airplane. She could feel a little wind on her face, but that was to be expected.
After finally getting her bearings, she opened her eyes and gasped. “Oh my god. I can see almost the whole town from up here.”
What had she been nervous about? It was amazing up here. It was also kind of romantic up here.
“You’re amazing,” she said to Jason.
***
Jason blushed. He couldn’t help it. He was an experienced fighter and had completed several difficult quests...but all of that paled in comparison to how scary girls could be. Especially ones he really liked.
“Yeah...it’s nice up here, right? Thalia can do it too. My sister? But she’s afraid of heights and refuses to.”
Jason would never understand that. Why be afraid of heights when you could fly?
***
Lindsay could kind of understand it, actually. Though she was in awe of the view she had from up here, there were still a few nervous butterflies in her stomach. Of course, she was a mere mortal. She was surprised to hear about a demigod having such a fear.
It made her realize they weren’t so much different from regular humans that way.
“I guess we all have our fears,” she said simply. “Hers happens to be fear of heights. To be honest, I thought it would be one of mine, too.”
But she clearly was handling being up here.
***
“There’s nothing to be afraid of, I promise. Even if I dropped you - which I won’t - I’d catch you before you hit the ground.” Jason was confident of his skills. He had to be, because he had to rely on them, and more than once his life had depended on them.
Jason had never really considered himself that different from everyone else. Sure, he didn’t know very many mortals, but in the end they were all just people. So what if his father had been a god? It hadn’t stopped his mother from abandoning him, or all the other terrible things that had happened to him in his life.
“Just let me know if you want down.”
He didn’t want to scare her.
***
Lindsay shook her head. “I don’t want down, yet. I like it up here. It’s quiet...and we kind of have this part of the sky to ourselves.”
It was definitely romantic. At least, to her it was. She didn’t have a lot of experience with romance.
***
Jason wasn’t good at the whole romance thing, but even he could tell when things got this romantic. Awkward silence for a moment caused him to look at her, and he knew almost immediately what he needed to do. Something far scarier than battling Titans or giants.
He leaned in and kissed her softly, hoping very much that she couldn’t feel him trembling.
*** Lindsay didn’t notice the trembling. All she was focused on was that he was kissing her. It really was a near perfect moment. They were up in the air, away from everything on the ground, including all the distractions that came with it. This could not have been timed any better.
She wasn’t pulling away. In fact, she was putting her own effort into the kiss. She might have been trembling, too.
She didn’t seem to care at the moment, though.
***
Jason wasn’t sure how long it lasted. He didn’t care. It was a sublime moment, a perfect and romantic moment. There wasn’t even trying to kill them, which was a rare thing for Jason.
When they finally pulled apart, he smiled at her. He didn’t quite know what to say, so he just rested his head against hers and laughed softly in happiness.
***
Lindsay smiled right back at him. This was so perfect. Sure, she had kissed boys before, this was different. Jason was sweet and kind to her. She wasn't even thinking about anything else right now. She wasn't thinking about past kisses or old boyfriends or the fact thay they were hundreds of feet in the air.
All she thought about was how happy she was. Truly happy. It'd been awhile since she felt anything like this.
"We should do this more often."
She meant both kissing and flying.
***
“I agree,” he said. Honestly, he’d be happy to do this every single day. The more he was around her, the more he wanted to spend time with her.
“What do you say that we go get something to eat now?”
***
Lindsay nodded and grinned. "I think that sounds like a good plan."
Besides, she had kind of worked up an appetite. The exhilaration of flying would do that.
