It was the answer to both questions. Steve didn't know anything right now, didn't even know how he felt about any of it. He especially didn't know what was going on in Veronica's head, or in Molly's head. It was a messed up situation, and it wasn't easy for him to work through it with Bucky locked away like he was.
Not that Steve would ever say as much. It wasn't his fault that things had come down when they had, the way they had, and Steve didn't blame him for not being able to be right there at his side.
