Who: Kate Bishop and Scott Lang Where: A local coffee shop When: Thursday evening What: SADNESS. Warnings: Talk of death. Status: In-Progress/Closed
Coffee was suppose to make things better. It always made things better.
It was not going to make things better right now. It wouldn't even dampen the blow that was going to come with this conversation. Not for Scott. Not for Kate. Even knowing what she had to tell Scott, having lived through the events, didn't make it any easier. It never would be, which was why Kate hardly spoke of Cassie to anyone.
Sitting at the coffee shop, Kate had ordered herself the largest and strongest thing the could find. She had barely touched it, though. Perhaps one or two sips had been taken. Even the organic muffin had been left untouched.
She was folding and unfolding her paper napkin while she waited. The creases were beginning to tear, but that didn't stop Kate. Even as the material wore down with each fold, Kate would find a different way to fold it to try and keep the napkin in tact.
How did you even start a conversation like this? 'Hi there! Your daughter died on my watch after you were resurrected by crazy Doctor Doom saving the world.' Yeah. Kate was certain that was going to not go over well. Not at all.
No, Kate knew how the conversation was going to go on her side. For the most part. Until it came time for Scott to talk, respond, and have any kind of input. Taking a deep breath, Kate exhaled slowly and finally took another sip of her coffee.
