It was a bright day, but filled with the normal humdrums of the town of Madison and the valley that contained it. A normal day, full of a quiet wind that was barely moving, average warmth, and a stillness that seemed almost stifling. Animals moved about their morning ways, doing as they normally did, and into this normalcy came Billy Batson, a very abnormal kid.
To him, the day was already amazing. He’d arrived the night before, been found by strange people who stared at him like he had a second head and had gotten a speech about what was causing his appearance and been given a few things. While he had taken them, they seemed a little too like his uncle to be good, so he eluded his greeters, and found a place to hole up in the woods. There were all sorts of places in the woods that were nice, secluded, and even seemed like people might have stayed there before. He had been warm all night!
When morning came, he had gone river walking, and had seen some debris choking a brook off of the river, which wasn’t right, so he cleared that out, freeing the river to flow straight. He never let pass an opportunity to help, because he knew what it was like to be helpless. In the debris, he managed to find a sort of broken fishing rod, and had caught, skinned, and cooked some fish, which he had then eaten quite happily. He carefully buried the remnants of the fire, and the rest of the fish where they would do the most good, and decided to head toward the town again.
