WHO: Santana Lopez and Quinn Fabray
WHERE: At the apartment
WHEN: Saturday morning in April (pre-kid plot)
WHAT: Lazing in bed
RATING: PG-13
STATUS: log; completed
Santana rolled over and could feel the heat that Quinn’s body was radiating and moved closer. It was something she was known for back in Lima, that she always needed someone’s body heat. At first it had been Puck’s, and then Brittany’s. Now it was Quinn’s. She didn’t think Quinn was awake yet and made sure to put her body as physically close to Quinn’s as possible, her arm draped over the blonde’s body and the covers on top of both of them. She snuggled her head into Quinn’s and breathed in the intoxicating smell that was Fabray.
The two of them had the morning off on Saturday, having both worked the Friday night. Santana had come home to Quinn already asleep and had made sure not to disturb her when she got into bed. It was nice for a change and now all Santana wished for was darker curtains to block out the sun in the morning and for the power of magic or something to make the coffee and breakfast and float it into their bedroom.
Even though she’d give nothing more to sleep in longer, her mind had started to walk through the day - the morning and early afternoon with Quinn and then work in the evening. She had already picked out clothes for the evening. Her arms pulled Quinn closer to her, not that there was any more room between them, but Santana just applied the pressure to keep Quinn’s body against hers.
~~~
Though she had slept alone for quite some time since her arrival here, she could no longer imagine such a feat now. In fact, she was certain she would end up tossing and turning the entire night. It was amazing how someone could become such a fixture in someone’s else’s life especially for someone as seemingly as selfish as Quinn. The blond would always love having an audience, a captive trail of gazers to follow along behind her in a stream the obviously promoted her popularity. They were mostly pawns with few exceptions to those rules...aside from the woman that slept next to her.
Santana was her best friend before they were involved and Quinn had never considered her in that category. After all, she did promote her own stream of wide-eyed gazes seeking out a road to their own source of popularity, but that wasn’t the only reason. Quinn respected Santana fiercely even if, back in high school and some after, they’d fought with each other and competed with each other on more than a few levels. Now, Quinn could only see herself offering support to Santana in whatever she chose. To compete with the other woman felt silly, especially when she could stand beside her and share in her happiness and success.
It was like that in all aspects though. For Quinn, all she could see for herself was Santana. The rest of the world, girls and boys alike, had faded away under the tremendous presence of her fiance. It wasn’t surprising: Santana was difficult to outshine, but it was more so because of the hold she simply had over Quinn’s heart. How happy the other woman made her was impossible to compete with or ever outdo. Feeling Santana’s warm breath tickling her skin, the woman’s arm drawing her in closer, she knew it was a mutual feeling. The blond couldn’t help, but smile at Santana tightening the hold around her and Quinn settled a hand upon the brunette’s, giving the fingers a gentle squeeze. Though all of it, she lived for these moments with Santana. Oh they were hard fought, but they were perfect and worth all of it. “You know, any tighter and I might not be able to breath, Lopez,” she teased, flashing the woman a smile over her shoulder. “Just saying.”
***
“Is that a problem for you?” Santana said “Not being able to breath? I’d make some lame joke about me taking your breath away but I don’t think it’d go over well” she said, a grin spreading across her face as she loosened her grip on Quinn.
“These mornings are the best” she said, gently running her hand up Quinn’s arm. “I don’t ever want to get up from you and honestly, if I didn’t have bad morning breath, I’d be all over you Fabray” she said. “How was your night?” Santana asked, wondering what Quinn had gotten up to while she had been at work.
~~~~~
“It would be a bit of a flop,” the blond replied, placing a light kiss on the other woman’s nose. “But I would offer a compensation laugh.” Truthfully, Quinn found anything that Santana did or said somewhat on a level of cute or adorable. In the spirit of flirting and bad pick-up lines, well, Santana remained far above the rest. It wasn’t just her good looks that won Quinn over. The raven haired woman loosened her grip, Quinn squeezed her hands and snuggled closer against Santana.
These were the best mornings when neither of them had to run to work or school and could simply indulge in each other’s presence.At the feel of the fingers grazing her arm, Quinn couldn’t control, but shiver at the gentle touch. “Me either. I wish we could spend every day like this one,” she replied, tinge of longing evident in her tone. Unfortunately, Quinn knew the scenario was only going to get complicated once she graduated and enrolled in college. The roles would be shifted again and Santana would have a job soon too that was not Verdant. Though 9-5 was better than Verdant hours, it would still be up against Quinn’s possible difficult schedule.
At the mention of bad breath, the blond crinkled her nose, but turned, shifting in her girlfriend’s arms and kissed the other woman lightly on the lips. It was chaste and in a few seconds Quinn pulled away. “You’re right. So bad. About as bad as mine,” Quinn couldn’t stop the teasing smile from forming upon her lips. ‘Definitely keep it to yourself, Lopez.” She was joking because she knew her own breath at this moment remained less than desirable. With the question, she shrugged her shoulders. “Not much. Mostly homework and watching bad television,” she replied. “What about you? How was work?”
***
“Work was good” Santana said. “There’s a fat stack of one’s on the table. Sometimes I think it’d be easier to take half my clothes off instead of serving sometimes, but you know, respect and reputation” she said, leaving it at that. “It’s a good place. I’ll miss it when I finish, but I’m ready to destroy people for money and wear some bitching power suits” Santana said with a grin.
“But let’s not talk about such things when there is clearly you and me time, right here, right now” Santana said, giving Quinn a gentle kiss. “My fiancee” she said, letting the word slowly roll out of her mouth.
~~~
As tough as Santana was, Quinn could not see her fiancee stripping for money. She had too much pride and respect for herself. Besides, Santana was so much better than that completely. She was a great waitress, but Quinn was with Santana on the last part. The blond was ready for her girlfriend to start her career and yeah do what Santana did best most of the time: destroy people with words. For Quinn, the ‘bitching power suits’ were just a bonus. “And you’re going to kick ass with it too,” she replied, nuzzling the dark haired woman’s neck gently. “I know it.”
The blond flushed visibly when the other woman leaned in and kissed her softly. She would never get tired of those lips pressed against her own and she would never have to know what it was like to go without them. They would be married and she hoped, together forever. “Yes,” Quinn slipped her hand out from the blankets, braving the slight chill, to flash the ring at her soon to be wife. “I’m lucky. My fiancee…” Quinn trailed off, snuggling up tightly to Santana. “And I’m never letting you go.”
***
Santana wiggled a little, adjusting slightly and nuzzling Quinn. “Why must there be work when I’d rather be with you day and night” she said with a slightly sad voice. “I guess I should get up and make breakfast” she said, her voice trailing off. “Although I’d rather have you for breakfast” she said with a grin, laying her head on Quinn. “Maybe with a dash of spice or hot sauce” she said laughing.
~~~~
At the feel of Santana nudging her, Quinn broke into a bright grin and murmured in pleasure. There moments were so rare for them and somehow, unlike work or school, they went by so fast. It wasn’t fair and Quinn frowned at Santana’s statement. The other woman was right; Quinn would enjoy being with Santana every hour of everyday too. Instead, there was always some dose of responsibility to get in the way. It sucked, didn’t it? Yet, it was life and even after college was done there would a career hopefully on the other side and more time apart. It was depressing to think of it that way, wasn’t it?
“Well, you’d probably get tired of me if you saw me all the time anyway,” she teased the other woman gently. “You’d be like go away.” Considering how long Santana had been without Quinn, she doubted this would ever be the case, but she was trying to brighten the mood...somewhat anyway. “We should make breakfast,” Quinn chided lightly. “I’m thinking french toast or some waffles maybe? Anything you want in particular?” Of course, classic Santana had to be a flirt and the blond giggled.
“I don’t know. I’d eat you all up if I could, Lopez,” she replied with a wink.
----
“French toast” Santana said lazily. “More work, but more reward in the end. Plus, powdered sugar is always wonderful” she grinned at Quinn. “And I would never get tired of you. Even if you turned zombie or cannibal and I ended up in a pot. At least I’d be with you to the end” Santana said, grinning before giving her another kiss. She slowly slithered off the side of the bed and got up, grabbing one of her plush robes and wrapping it around her.
“Bonjour Mademoiselle Fabray, shall we make some toast du France?” she said with a bow and a wink.
~~~
“Powdered sugar can be a slice of heaven,” Quinn replied with sneaky smile. Well, close because Santana was more so to Quinn than a sugared, powdered substance. “And good because we are betrothed and all,” she added with a wink of her own. Reluctantly, she released her hold on Santana and watched, a bit longingly, as the other girl slipped into one of her plush robes. Quinn pushed herself up and throwing back the covers, tugged on one of her own robes and cinched the waist.
The bow and the wink brought a smile to her lips and she offered a hand to Santana. “Shall we, then?”
