Gale didn't know what it meant that he and Madge didn't have a child show up. It seemed everyone else in town did. He knew not everyone had a kid show up, no. But it seemed like everyone else had them, except him and Madge. And while part of him wanted to scream at the injustice of it, the other part of him wondered if it meant they weren't destined to have kids. Why should they? Madge was dead in the time line back home. Maybe having kids here was a major paradox, or something. What did he know?
The kids had been around town for close to a week. That meant they were likely going to be gone soon. It was way too late for a kid to show up for him, for Madge. It made him sad, but maybe it was for the best. If they weren't meant to have a child, maybe it was best they didn't have one at all, even though it seemed they were the only ones without.
He sighed and looked around the park. There were a lot of kids running around out there. He wondered if his kid would be rough and tumble, like some of them, or quiet and reserved, preferring to read a book rather than rough house with the other kids around. He was kind of both, he supposed, or he would have been if he'd been raised in a place where he could explore the world around him instead of being a slave to it.
He scrubbed his hand over his face, and thought about getting up to go home to Madge. She'd be wondering where he was if he didn't get home soon, but he supposed he had a few minutes to spare, that he could sit and watch the children playing.
