Pansy might be a raging bitch to most people, but to those she loved, she was warm and solicitous, maybe even clingy. And Cecilia Malfoy - her six year old daughter who had magically shown up, was easy to love. She had dark, glossy hair and hazel eyes, and a temperament that was both sweet and intelligent. The only unfortunate thing with her showing up was that it was causing a bit of awkwardness between Pansy and Neal - though it wasn’t as if he didn’t have random children showing up - but Cecilia couldn’t be blamed for that. So when the girl said she wanted to eat ice cream on a cold windy day, Pansy decided to indulge her. That was what warming charms were for, after all. *** Natasha didn’t have warming charms but when Alexander also wanted ice cream she couldn’t say no so she wrapped him in a coat which was slightly too big for him, with a scarf and gloves she’d found in one of the bedroom drawers. He looked cute even if she said so herself. Alex was leading the way since he knew the town well, he’d grown up here which was something Natasha had to keep reminding herself of. Entering the shop they stopped to look at the choices of ice cream, when another woman came in with a child Alex smiled at the little girl, “Hello” he said, obviously not too shy around others. *** Cecilia was spreading staring at the tubs of ice cream, but when Alex spoke up, she turned to see who was addressing her. “Hello,” she responded, looking at him curiously. “What flavour are you going to get?” Surprised by this ready conversation with a stranger, Pansy looked at the woman who'd come in with the boy. There was a hardness to the woman that suggested she wasn't one to be trifled with. “Let's not accost people with our questions, Cici,” she admonished. *** “I like chocolate best” Alex said, “What is your best?” Natasha smiled as the kids interacted, shaking her head she just said, “Oh it’s okay. After all Alex did speak first” she said easily, “It seems he’s more outgoing than I was at his age” *** Pansy looked at the woman, whom she couldn’t imagine ever being outgoing. That was quite all right; Pansy wasn’t entirely, either. Or, rather, she chose who to be outgoing around. “I like chocolate peanut butter,” Cecilia was saying. “I wonder if they have it today.” And, grabbing the younger boy’s hand, she took him to the display case to see if they did. Pansy raised an eyebrow as she watched them go. “And apparently my daughter has much fewer inhibitions when it comes to strangers than I do.” *** Natasha figured she and the other woman were similar in the outgoing sense, neither of them gave off particularly outgoing vibes. Though Natasha was better here than at home. Alex was happy to be led along, his mom was here and the little girl seemed nice. He was also intrigued by the idea of chocolate peanut butter and wanted to see if he would be allowed it too if the shop had it. “Perhaps we can learn something from our children after all” she said in amusement, before holding out her hand to the other mother, “Natasha and my son is Alex” she added. *** “Pansy,” she replied, taking the offered hand in a limp shake. Obviously no one had ever taught her to properly shake hands before. “That’s Cecilia over there, salivating over the ice cream. If I allowed her, she’d eat the entire store and ask for more.” She wasn’t so sure she needed to learn any lessons from Cecilia. Pansy liked to be discerning about the people she talked to. *** Natasha found it interesting whenever she met new people, obviously hand shaking wasn’t an important first impression to make where Pansy was from and Natasha relaxed just slightly. “Oh I have no doubt Alex would do the same, the term moderation doesn’t seem to mean much when you’re so young” Not that Natasha knew how a child should act, everything in her childhood had been carefully controlled for her. *** “The way she acts, it's like I've never fed her any sweets in her life,” Pansy said with a roll of her eyes. She looked at her daughter fondly, though. “I miss the days when I was able to eat six cookies at a go and have only a stomachache to show for it.” *** Chuckling Natasha nodded, “I know what you mean. Each naughty thing requires more time in the gym these days” she couldn’t deny it though luckily her schedule meant she spent each day keeping fit anyway, not as intense as her training at home but still a good amount of exercise. *** “Mum!” Cecilia called once she'd picked out her flavor. “Mum, I'm ready!” Pansy shook her head. “Let's see how much of the shop she's bought up,” she said with a roll of her eyes. *** “Between them the store might run out” Natasha joked as they both stepped forward to see what delights their children had decided on. |
