Madge was still a bit shell-shocked over what Gale had told her about his role in Prim's death. She knew it had been unintentional, and she had already forgiven him. But no amount of forgiveness, or insistence that it had been an accident, would bring Prim back. Madge knew that. Katniss knew it. Gale knew it best of all, and that was why he could never forgive himself. The situation had been desperate. The Capitol was too brutal to listen to anything but violence. Gale had done what he had to in order to win. Madge knew all of this. But that didn't make Prim's death any less bitter, or the victory any less bittersweet. Madge wondered if Katniss even considered it a victory at all. She understood if she didn't.
After coffee with Katniss the other day, the sadness still lingered. That necessitated a stop at the gelato store. Something about the yummy treat always seemed to make her feel better, at least for a short time. Stepping inside, she got in line, checking the network as she waited.
She had only just been alerted to the presence of the children when the door opened behind her and suddenly she had a little one attached to her leg. Crouching down, she smiled at the child, wondering if it was one of these 'future children.'
