This probably wasn't going to be fun. Rose knew that was the understatement of the century. She's figured out from what she could understand out of the Russian and Dimitri's comments to the others that he'd come from right after the caves. That all felt like such a long time ago to Rose. At the same time, she could remember every detail of that day with painful clarity. That day, the following months. She could remember watching Dimitri fall, learning he was strigoi, leaving Lissa to look for him. Parts of her time in Russia were a haze, thanks to the endorphins she'd gotten with every bite, but every moment of their fight on the bridge was burned into her memory. She remembered everything that came after, too, and even though Rose wasn't sure she even believed in God, she sent up a silent prayer as she waited. Please. She couldn't even articulate what she was asking for, but Rose figured he knew what she wanted, anyway. Rose paced in front of the door, her silver stake hand firmly in her right hand as she waited. Rose didn't know if he'd come right away like she'd asked or if he'd insist on getting himself cleaned up first. She told herself it didn't matter. Inviting Dimitri here was a test. She'd had Angel's friend Willow ward the apartment some time ago, right after Dimitri had disappeared the first time. Nothing undead could get through that door. She couldn't see ghosts anymore, not since getting shot, but she figured it worked just as well on vampires - the undead kind, anyway. If was an extra layer of protection, one that was badly needed when she was the only guardian in this place, with four moroi and an alchemist to protect. She hadn't seen a single strigoi in the time she'd been here, but that didn't mean she was going to let her guard down. It was times like this she missed the bond the most. She couldn't reach out to check on Lissa. She could only trust Christian to keep her safe. Rose knew she couldn't let herself worry right now. She shoved her emotions back into that space in her mind, crossed her arms. Rose was in full battle mode as she stood in front of the door to her apartment, just inside the wards Willow had laid, and she waited. |
