Tauriel was finding that getting into a routine was rather nice, she spent time in the woods since being among the trees was reassuring to her and sometimes took lunch to Kili at his work and made sure their home was clean and tidy. There were lots of plants around and as much as possible she kept the windows open to allow fresh air to circulate.
She’d been worried about not having a job since things here seemed to require it but then she had spoken to a man opening a centre for learning skills and offered to teach archery. Things were looking good so she’d gotten up early and was making Kili a hearty breakfast. He wasn’t working that day so they had plans to spend it together.
***
Kili was happier than he had been in a very long time. He enjoyed the things that Madison Valley had to offer and everything he could learn here. He liked the home that he and Tauriel had made together and he really enjoyed his job.
However, he thanked the gods every day that they had brought Tauriel to him. He didn’t know what he had done to earn their regard in such a way, but he would never stop thanking them for their kindness.
He was smiling when he came into the kitchen and stopped to watch his beloved move about.
“Good morning, Amralime.”
***
Tauriel felt blessed by the gods to have been sent here to Kili, she too thanked them every day and hoped never to leave this place if it meant they would always be together. She could face the strangeness of this world as long as her Kili was with her.
Turning she smiled brightly, “Good Morning” she replied moving to press a gentle kiss to his mouth before returning to the breakfast preparation. While she didn’t eat meat herself she had no problems with cooking it for Kili, in fact she found she rather enjoyed preparing all kinds of food for him. It helped that he obviously appreciated it and didn’t mind her experimenting a little, “Did you sleep well?” she asked him.
***
He hugged her, happy to kiss her in return, only releasing her so that he didn’t impede her movements around the kitchen. He leaned against the wall, happy to watch her preparing the meal -- and he would never ever get tired of being able to freely share meals with his beloved. He had never expected her to prepare meals for them, but once she had made him understand and believe that she enjoyed it, he stopped protesting it.
“I slept very well, Tauriel, thank you. I always sleep well when you are by my side.” He smiled softly. He knew that elves didn’t need sleep like most, but he always appreciated when Tauriel curled up with him.
***
She had surprised herself with how much she enjoyed preparing the food they ate, there were so many things in this world which were new to both of them and it was fun to try them. She had watched people demonstrate cooking after being shown how to search for shows on the phone she had been given but had begun to wonder if anybody in the town offered lessons. She would have to look into it.
“As do I” she smiled, “I have never found rest as peaceful as when I am with you” Elves didn’t sleep as most but with Kili she enjoyed the closeness.
“Have you given thought to what we should do today?” she asked him, as she began to serve up the eggs and accompaniments onto their plates.
***
Kili took a seat and watched her, not able to keep the smile off of his face. He loved her so much and couldn’t help but smile when she was near him -- even if he probably would get teased for how utterly gone he looked sometimes when she was around.
“I thought that we could spend some time out in the woods today if you were in agreement? They are not as large as the ones back home, but they are decent and large enough to hunt or pretend to get lost in for a little while.”
***
Whenever they were together Tauriel found a smile coming to her face more easily than it ever had before. They probably looked like a crazy pair, not that either of them truly minded, they were both too happy to be here alive and together.
“I think that would be lovely. All time spent with you is most welcome” she told him as she brought their food to the table setting it down and sitting next to him at the table.
***
Kili nodded and leaned against Tauriel for a moment before reaching for his utensils. He took a bite and then smiled. “This is amazing, just like always, love. Thank you.”
One of these days, he would try to recreate some of his favorite dishes from home -- without the meat -- for Tauriel. He just needed to figure out how to adapt the recipes and get to the kitchen before she did.
“I also enjoy spending time with you no matter where we are, Amralime. The woods will just always be one of the best places to spend time with you since it was a forest that first brought you to me.”
And spiders, but he would be happy never to talk about them ever again.
***
“You are welcome. I am still learning but there are so many things to try in this world, I think it will keep us busy for a long time to come” And she knew how much dwarves enjoyed their food, her dwarf was no different there.
She would very much enjoy Kili cooking for her, she did try not to take over too much but while she was waiting to start work she liked keeping things tidy in their home and cooking for him was simply an extension of that. And a way to show how much she cared.
His words brought a smile to her face, he was always so sweet with words. “The woodland will always hold a special place in my heart. Finding you opened my heart to love” It was freeing to be able to say what she felt and she knew if she had her time again she would have gone with Kili under the mountain and fought with him and his kin.
***
“This world is very much full of so many things to try and places to explore. I didn’t know that there was a place where so many wondrous things could even exist and not all be magic. Although. From what I understand it was real magic that Lady Liz used on me when I first arrived here.” It had kept him from bleeding out and kept him alive.
“You were already capable of love, my beautiful Tauriel. I am just the lucky one that your heart bonded to.”
***
Her hand found his when he mentioned his injuries, “I am happy there was someone here with such healing abilities. And I look forward to discovering the wonders of this world at your side”
Tauriel smiled, she had been capable it was true but she was unsure if she would have found anybody she could have opened up to if she had never encountered Kili. He had found his way under her defences seemingly without even trying. “I am the lucky one, my Kili” she told him, leaning forward to kiss him. Expressing herself around him was becoming much easier.
***
Kili squeezed Tauriel’s hand gently. “This place is truly a wonder given to us by the gods, my love.”
When she leaned in to kiss him, he was happy to return the kiss, letting his free hand lift to brush lightly against her cheek. For the love of his beautiful Tauriel, he would even face those spiders again.
There was only one thing that he would want to change, and that would be her having to witness his death.
***
“It is and it is something we will be forever grateful for” Tauriel agreed, she would happily remain here for all time if it meant she got to have the life with Kili which had been cruelly taken from both of them.
Watching him die had been the hardest thing she had ever seen and she would have done anything to be able to save him. Being here with him was most definitely a gift she had been given.
***
“After breakfast, then, we can pack a few things and head into the forest?” He requested with a smile for her. “That way, we can stay for as long as we desire to and don’t have to rush back home because we need something.”
Truth be told, he’d go even without provisions if it meant that they got to spend some peaceful time together.
***
Tauriel nodded her agreement, “That sounds wonderful. The starlight is beautiful here, if we stay out long enough we will see it” she liked sharing the night with Kili, they may have been brought up very differently but they both agreed the stars were incredible.
Once again she felt a calm fall over her at the thought of spending the day with Kili, it was most certainly going to be a lovely day.
