She'd always supposed that outside the District fences, there had been beautiful flowers this time of year. But within them, where they were required by law to stay, every inch of land was covered in coal dust. Flowers still grew sometimes, but not like here. And not so many.
"I think I'd like to go out to the park and just walk. We were never allowed to do anything like that."
