Things for Nick here in Madison Valley were a combination of good and bad. There were some things in between but not many. Normal, status quo, these things weren’t part of Nick’s lexicon. Not here. Not home. But at least here he felt he had a bit more control over his situation. It was time he took control of one in particular.
He’d been avoiding this, hoping it would sort itself out. That wasn’t happening. It didn’t seem to be getting any better. From where Nick sat one side kept making the effort while the other dug their feet in. He couldn’t stand on the sidelines and let them butt heads anymore. It was time he got involved.
It had to start somewhere so Nick chose his ground. The casino, and Phil Coulson. He only wanted to talk, speak his mind, but he had his determined look on his face as he sat at the bar waiting for the bartender to report his presence to Coulson. If the man didn’t show, well Nick wouldn’t push it.

And of course Phil was in the middle of something; it took him a couple minutes to finish his phone call before he made his way out of the office -- he wasn’t going to ignore Nick. Whether he liked the man or not -- and he actually didn’t know him well enough to have an opinion; all hereally knew was that Bobbi cared for him and that he drove Cassie batshit -- Nick wasn’t someone he would ignore.
The people he’d ignore generally knew it already.
“Sorry about that,” he said as he approached where Nick sat. “Phone call I couldn’t get away from.” He took a seat and looked at the younger man. “What brings you by?”

Nick sat up from his lean on the bar when Coulson approached him. His beer only had a few drinks out of it. He wasn’t here to get drunk, but no way he’d ever turn down a good beer. The smile he gave the man Cassie called Suit was polite at best. Bobbi had good things to say about him, but Nick hadn’t had the best experiences.
“Cassie,” he answered succinctly. “You’re her friend and Bobbi says you’re reasonable.” Nick paused to take a drink then turned to better face Phil. “I’m sure you know she’s got a real hate going for Bobbi. It’s gone on too long.”
