Knocking on the door of Sydney’s flat - soon to be their flat - Draco waited for his girlfriend to open the door. Soon he wouldn’t need for her to open the door, they would be sharing the space. He bounced briefly on the toes of his feet, eager to see her as well as eager to take this next step. It was not one he would ever have expected to take, much less look forward to. Draco still wasn’t sure he understood love, but more than anything Sydney made him happy. Sydney didn’t answer immediately and Draco frowned. He knocked again, eager to see her. “Sydney, come on love, answer the door,” he called out. *** Just a short while ago, Sydney would have never dreamed of answering the door in anything other than a full suit ensemble, with all the buttons done up. She’d loosened up a lot since dating Draco, though, and she was taking risks she never used to. When she finally came to the door, she greeted her boyfriend in a bathrobe. Although it was tightly tied at the waist, there was no hiding the long expanse of legs peeking out, or the fact that she was wearing very little - if anything - underneath. “Hi, sorry to keep you waiting. I was in the shower.” Her smile was still somewhat self-conscious, but she wasn’t shy about letting him see her less than completely put together now. They were going to be moving in together. He’d seen much more than what she was showing now. *** Somehow Sydney continued to surprise him and that delighted Draco in how unexpected it was. He straightened up as she opened the door, grey eyes flashing with a combination of delight and raw need. Entering the apartment, Draco took off his coat, eyes on Sydney the entire time. “A shower?” he commented, hanging up the coat on a hook. “Any special reason?” Not that Draco cared about the reason why nor did he plan on giving her a chance to actually answer him. Instead, now free of his coat, he reached out to her, snagging her about the waist. He tugged her towards him, appreciating once more how well they fit together. Leaning down, he kissed her cheek, before inhaling the scent of her - clean and fresh - a scent he would always associate with her. The hand not around her waist toyed with the tie of her belt. “Maybe we should forget about making room for my belongings this evening and instead you can show me what you aren’t wearing underneath this robe.” Draco couldn’t fathom why he couldn’t get enough of Sydney, but the reason didn’t matter. He just enjoyed it instead. *** “Personal hygiene doesn’t need a special occasion to observe,” Sydney replied, resting her hand against his chest. She might be a lot more relaxed now, but she still took a lot of things seriously and literally. It was, however, difficult to stay that way when his hand was playing so tantalizingly with her belt. Just one tug and she’d be entirely open to him - a thought that was utterly exciting to her...especially knowing what she had underneath. She leaned in to kiss him lightly. “I could show you what I am wearing underneath,” she said. She’d gone through her closet earlier today and found the gift he’d sent her so long ago, the negligee she’d been too self-conscious to wear so early in their relationship. *** Again Draco marveled that they had reached this point in their relationship. Looking back, he could remember a point where he was certain she’d never speak to him again, much less tease him about her clothing or lack thereof. Or just let him hold her like this. But she was taunting him - not only with the robe. Her words ran along his spine, ratcheting up his need for her. So he retaliated by leaning in to kiss her deeply, drawing her up against him with the arm around her waist. Letting go of her mouth, Draco whispered against her lips, “You are quite wicked to taunt me so. I thought we had a list of chores to complete tonight.” He grinned against her mouth. “But considering how wicked you are, I believe that checking out your clothing or lack thereof should move to the top of the list.” *** Sydney allowed herself one more kiss before pulling away. She slid her hand down his arm, though, to take his hand and bring him further into her room. “Consider it incentive to get through our to-do list,” she told him. She was looking forward to seeing him see her in the negligee, yes, but she was also excited to have Draco move in. And the faster they could get the apartment ready, the sooner he could move in. He already spent a lot of time here, but it would be nice to have his things here, next to hers, just as he was often here, next to her. “Now come on.” Murmuring a spell she’d learned recently, she pulled out the drawers of the dresser so she could see what she could take out to make room for his things. *** “So not fair,” Draco said with that typical little boy pout, even as his fingers curled around Sydney’s and he followed her into the bedroom. The one thing Draco had learned though was that Sydney was quite immune to his pouting. She did not think it was adorable nor attempt to soothe it away. Instead, she briskly ignored him. It didn’t stop him from continuing the practice, but he watched her use the spell, it melted away. “Excellent spell,” he commented, attempting not to pay attention to the fact that he would rather be crawling into the bed with her than finding space. “When did you learn that one?” With more of their magic involved in their relationship, they often not only showed off to one another, but discussed implications and repercussions of items. “And I did do as you requested,” Draco commented, pulling the list of parchment from his pocket. “I have a list of what I have and dimensions of what I would need.” He smoothed it out. “Right now I have 5 drawers and a closet.” Which is minimal considering how much Draco would have actually had had he still had his funds from home. *** “Just a week ago,” Sydney said, pleased with both her success in doing the spell and with his reaction to it. “I’ve been trying to find the equivalent of your Levioso for a while now, and I finally found something that worked.” It was challenging for her, because there were no witches of her sort here - so she had to study other forms of magic practices and find one that worked for her. It was an extremely interesting and fulfilling practice, once she’d finally gotten over her own hang-ups about using magic at all. “I’m working on one now that’ll expand the space within a container, so hopefully in a few weeks you can add whatever you want without us having to make room.” *** “Expanding space into different dimensions is quite complex,” Draco commented, impressed. “I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Let me know what I can help with.” Her inventiveness with spells drove him to continue to flex what he knew and expected of his own magic. “Making room for clothing is one thing, but our books are going to be a bigger issue.” Draco grinned. Neither of them liked to stop learning about things and collecting books - well it would be quite a competition to know who had more. Taking his wand out, Draco flipped it as he considered things. “What we should consider doing tonight - more importantly - is setting up some wards and protections for our space. We want to keep the space safe for both of us.” *** Sydney had focused on the more practical parts of magical application; security spells hadn’t been on the topics she’d studied yet. “What are you thinking we needed?” she asked, curious. On the whole, Madison Valley was safe - but there were the occasional attacks by rampaging dinosaurs, or - worse - vampires. Sydney wouldn’t want their place to be damaged because of it. *** Draco came from a long history of paranoia. And often it was warranted. Draco didn’t trust easily. Despite the peace and safety that Madison Valley seemed to have, Draco believed in being prepared for the possible. And in that case, it meant warding their flat. “Just something to keep out unwanted visitors - human or not,” Draco said. “Protection wards aren’t hard and will generally need to be renewed at various times - depending on their initial strength. They’re passive spells for the most part - alerting us of intrusions, nothing that would inflict harm.” The wand twirled among his fingers as he watched her move through the room. “It’s just a good practice. Especially if we have experiments going or other magic in the flat. It keeps it safe from harming others.” *** “Can I watch you do it?” Sydney asked. Knowing the background and theory behind magic as she did now, she was much more interested - rather than frightened - by Draco’s magic. She liked watching him work; he wielded his wand like a conductor with a baton. “It’s a good point about containing our magic. Paige has a setup like that in her house.” *** “Only if you take off the robe,” Draco retorted with a bright grin and a wink. He pushed himself up off of the bed and strolled over and kissed her in the cheek. “But regardless of robe removal, you should watch in case you ever need to undo them for some reason,” he continued, smiling at her. “They shouldn’t ever interfere with your magic working - connected as they are to the walls and exterior of the flat. It’s important to know how they work though - just in case.” Moving into the living room, Draco tapped the wand against his leg, thinking through the process, making sure he knew the steps he would describe to Sydney. Looking back at her, he asked, “Ready?” *** They both knew that the robe was going to come off at one point in the night, but Sydney let him tease her about it. She wasn’t the inexperienced prude she used to be, but she liked it when Draco seduced her. He was so good at it. She took a seat on the couch, proper and upright as ever, and clasped her hands demurely on her lap. “Ready.” *** Sydney was so demure and proper that Draco had the urge to muss her up. Every time she slid into that mode, Draco felt like ruffling her feathers all over again - just to see what would happen. He contemplated kissing her senseless right now, but he really did need her to pay attention to what he was doing. So did he for that matter, which meant that kissing would have to wait. Draco lifted his wand and began the process. In between gestures and words to raise the wards, Draco talked about the reason and logic behind each piece. It was a good mental exercise for him. He could have easily done it without thought, but teaching Sydney pushed him to actually think about magic instead of just using it. He’d never truly be a good teacher, but Sydney was different because of her intellectual curiosity. Finished, Draco looked at Sydney and asked, “Can you see the wards? Or at the least feel their presence? Actually, wait, come here.” He gestured for her to join him where he stood, smirking slightly at her, grey eyes flashing with that wickedness that was so a part of him. *** As Sydney had suspected, Draco used that opportunity to snag her around the waist as she approached. She didn't mind, though, and she leaned against him as she extended her senses. After a moment, she shook her head. “No, I don't sense anything.” That wasn't a surprise though. Sydney could do some magic now, but she needed her spells and her totems for that. Unlike Draco, who could sense magic just by being close to it, she needed help. *** Draco nodded - not an unexpected result. “We’ll have to make sure that you see them, because they are there,” Draco could feel the thrum of them at the back of his mind. It was an ignorable sensation and his awareness would fade over time. “And you should be able to manipulate them as well.” “But since you are here,” Draco said, leaning down towards her. The hand holding his wand captured her face as his mouth slid over hers. The kiss was not sweet, it was a pure show of passion and seduction, willing her to bend to his desire for her. For a few moments it was just pressure before he coaxed her to open her mouth so his tongue could slide inside, teasing both of them. When his level of need had ratcheted upwards, Draco pulled away enough to whisper, “Does the robe come off now?” His grey eyes promised that if it wasn’t, he would take it anyway. *** Sydney allowed herself to enjoy the kiss. While she hadn't had experience kissing anyone else and therefore had no point of comparison, she could tell Draco was a very good kisser. And he never failed to get her to respond. He never had, even when she'd done her best to resist him in the early days of their acquaintance. It was because he never failed to get her to respond that keeping track of what needed to be done was so important. If he had his way, they could just spend days in bed. That wasn't a bad thing...unless they had work to do. “Space,” she reminded him, pulling away. “We have to make space for your things. That was point of tonight.” *** Draco grumbled under his breath. Something about rather having sex than space. But it was good natured - knowing that he would have the robe by the end of the night. Or maybe… He tapped his wand against the tie of the robe. “Are you sure?” he asked enticingly. “We could have a quickie and then worry about the space.” He grinned at her, hoping to win her over. But Draco was well aware that Sydney could be inflexible when she had a plan and wanted it followed. It was actually something he greatly admired about her - that she didn’t let him get away with having everything his way. Too many had done that and it hadn’t been good for him. This relationship actually made him a better person. “Please?” he queried, wand tangling in the bow of the robe’s tie. *** Sydney put a stop to that when she put her hand over his wand to stop its movement and gave him a stern look. “Space,” she repeated, though she was smiling slightly. The idea of a quickie was actually quite tempting, but she knew that if she agreed to it, they were never going to get around to getting their work done. Draco only did quickies if he could take his time right afterwards. Besides, the rising anticipation would be good for both of them. “And the faster we get this done, the faster we could...move on.” *** Seeing the stern look, Draco knew Sydney was not going to be flexible in this instance. She had a plan and he wasn’t going to detour her course. Giving an exaggerated sigh of unhappiness, Draco said, “Fine. What is next on the space front?” He gestured at the book shelves. “Books? Or did you have a different plan of what we should work on?” He smirked at her, wickedness coming back to the fore. “I left my list in the bedroom. Maybe we should go and look for it.” Draco = one track mind. *** “Keep this up,” Sydney threatened, “and I'll lock you in the bedroom - without me.” No, Sydney didn't let him get away with things. “The next thing is clothing. I think we should wait on the books until I've mastered the expansion spell.” Because while she was willing to put aside a few of her beige suits, she wanted her books to be easily accessed. *** “Alright, alright,” Draco said, raising his hands up in surrender. “You win, clothing it is. As long as we keep in mind that I have even more books than you do and they’re all coming with me.” He doubted she would object to such a thing. But he got down to business, following Sydney back into the bedroom. It took nearly 45 minutes, and an argument about how many clothes Draco was allowed to have, before there was sufficient space for his clothing. Hands on his hips, Draco looked at Sydney. For once he didn’t try flirting with her, but instead simply asked, “All right Captain, what’s next?” *** That was what Sydney loved about him: that despite all the teasing and the attempts at every turn to get her into bed, he was focused when he needed to be. Fortunately for him, that was all that that was on the agenda. “What’s next,” Sydney said, her hands playing at the belt at her waist, “is that we finally get this off.” *** |
