Henry had given a lot of thought to the idea of adopting a companion animal. At home, with his wife and kids, they had a German Shepherd. The kids were supposed to take care of the dog, but most of the responsibility ended up falling on him, when he was home. He didn't mind.
And since Angie and the kids weren't here, he needed something to occupy his time. He looked at the dogs in the shelter, thinking he might want to get an older pup, one who would already be trained and house broken. But it was a puppy that really caught his eye.
An hour later, with leash in hand, he and the pup were walking in the park. The little guy yanked and pulled, because he had absolutely no leash walking manners. "We're going to have to work on that," Henry told the dog. But for now, he was just happy to have the little guy, and he wasn't going to be too strict from the start. Training would start soon enough.
He led the dog to toward a bench where he could sit for a minute, and take a rest from the yanking and tugging.
