Edmund wasn't sure what had drawn him to this section of the library on this day.
Perhaps it was the recent holiday that filled him with nostalgia and memories of Setauket, or perhaps it was the chill of winter, reminding him of his time as a prisoner of war in Connecticut. Whatever the reason, Edmund stood amongst the towering bookshelves of the library, searching silently through the titles as he waited for the right one to call to him. He'd been in this section before, but today it felt different. Today, he would finally read the books he was going to choose, rather than taking them home and casting uncomfortable glances at them until it was time to bring them back.
After a little while, he finally selected one book and held it tight in his hands, eyes trailing over the title, the cover art, the name of the author.
The American Revolution on Long Island.
...But did he really want to know? He took a deep breath, then let it out in a sigh.
He had no intention of returning to Long Island or indeed any of the colonies at all, but it seemed - Well. He knew how things ended up, more or less, but it was the details he did not know.
Edmund took another deep breath, then turned to head to the circulation desk. Only one book for now, just to see how he did. He was so engrossed in these thoughts that he very nearly stumbled into someone nearby.
"Oh! Pardon me," he said, tone apologetic. "I'm afraid my thoughts were elsewhere, how terribly rude of me."
