Yata watched as Briar skated. Not bad, he thought. It wasn't great but he managed to keep his balance well enough. Yata had seen a few people fall when simply coasting on a skateboard for the first time. But this kid did pretty good for a beginner. "Okay, now try and go a little faster this time," he told him once he figured Briar had gotten the hang of it.
As for turning. "Just lean in the direction you want to go. Not your whole body, though, just put some pressure on your heels or toes." And because he should've told him this before, "To stop, just lift the front wheels so the back ones drag against the pavement. Or take your back foot off and use that as a brake." Although these were pretty basic, the could be a bit tricky with keeping balance but Yata figured Briar could manage it.
