Neal wasn't sure why he was in a festive mood. He hadn't done anything over the Thanksgiving holiday, and hardly spent time celebrating Christmas the year before. He supposed that he wanted to do something different this year. Most people waited for the New Year to make resolutions and changes in their lives, but not Neal Caffrey. If he wanted a change he would start as soon as possible, and the first step in that was buying a tree. There were plenty in the open-air lot to choose from, and despite being there for nearly thirty minutes he still hadn't chosen a tree yet. Nothing stood out to him, but he had more than half of a lot to go through and he was taking his time. Neal enjoyed being outdoors in this weather just as long as he was dressed appropriately for it. His scarf was nestled around his neck, and his hands were gloved. His dark peacoat staved off the cold, but thankfully it wasn't so bad out. Snow had begun to fall, sure, but it was nice and it really lent to the Christmas atmosphere. He let out a long sigh, trying not to think about all of the things (which, really, there was only one) that weighed heavy on his mind and heart. This was a time for new things. New experiences, good and bad. Life wasn't always sunshine and roses, but that was fine with him. He wouldn't stop living just because of it. Neal ran a gloved hand over one of the trees he passed. "Sometimes I wish they'd just assign a tree to each person," he said to the body he saw in his periphery. "Because I'm having a hard time choosing just one." |
