While Luke agreed with Thalia that the day after Halloween was by far the best day of the year because of the half-priced candy, he also liked Halloween itself. It was fun, and dressing up and turning himself into someone else was something that Luke found incredibly amusing. Not to mention all the girls in their sexy costumes.
Hey, he was married and totally committed, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t look.
He’d been by the costume shop today and had picked up a few things to run by Thalia. He could take them back if she didn’t like them, but he thought that his idea for matching costumes was a great one. Because after all, who didn’t want to be Mr and Mrs Creepy Vampire?
He looked down at the costumes and couldn’t help but think how hot Thalia would look in that dress, if he should just get her into it when he heard the door close downstairs.
“Hey,” he called from the top of the stairs. “I’m up here.”
***
Settling into the new townhouse was easier than Thalia had expected. The place was smaller than their previous home, but it was still miles away from the streets. And at the end, after Annabeth and Buffy and Dawn had gone, that big house had seemed too big and empty anyway. This place was just right for the two of them, and it was expandable if Luke ever changed his mind about kids. Thalia wasn't in a hurry for them. She just wanted them, some day. And if it never happened before one or both of them got sent back - which she hoped never happened - she could accept that. She just hoped Luke would realize one day that he'd make a way better father than any of their parents. But until then, she was more than happy with the two of them.
When he called out, she smiled to herself and started envisioning all the things they could get up to once she got upstairs.
“Coming!” she called, and bounded up the stairs two steps at a time.
When she got there, she found him surrounded by what appeared to be great swaths of cheap black fabric.
“What's this?” she asked, after greeting him with a kiss.
***
“Our costumes for Halloween,” he said, looking proud of himself for coming up with the idea. “We’re going to be creepy gothic vampires.” He lifted the picture he’d found to show her, grinning stupidly. This was usually something that she did and he was proud to have thought of it first.
“Great, huh?”
***
“Vampires! Vonderful!” Thalia put on the cheesiest accent she could dredge up and went closer to examine the costumes. She loved the idea of vampires - cheesy, awful Hollywood vampires.
Then she saw the picture he was holding up, and she grimaced. “There's a dress,” she said, as if it weren't patently obvious. Maybe it wasn't, because Luke had bought it anyway. He knew how she felt about dresses. If he wanted to wear it, that was fine with Thalia. She'd totally support him in that and beat up anyone who dared make fun of him. But she hoped he didn't expect her to be the one to wear it.
***
He grinned, certain that he’d made the right selection. It was going to be cheezy, sure, but they loved cheezy. Cheezy was fun.
“Yeah, it’s a dress…” He said, sounding a little less sure. “But it’s just for the evening...so, that’s okay, right?”
He knew she hated dresses, but it was just a costume. Surely that had to be something different.
***
“Hah, that would be the night the dome sends us real vampires, and I'd be stuck running around trying to kill them in a dress,” Thalia said stoutly. Knowing the veil, that was exactly the kind of thing it would do. Or, worse, pull a Buffy and make everyone turn into their costumes. Then she'd be stuck as evil Vampirella in a dress all night.
Seeing the uncertainty in his face, she softened. “I love the vampire idea, and I'll totally stick plastic fangs in my mouth. Just...not in a poofy dress.”
Because the last time she was in one, it had been pink and feathery and she'd been a bimbo courtesy of Aphrodite. She hadn't liked dresses before that, and she liked them even less after that.
***
Luke sighed. She was stubborn, and he knew that there was absolutely nothing he could do to get her to see things his way. So he shrugged.
“Okay, I’ll wear it. You can be the boy vampire, I’ll be the girl vampire.”
Hey, why not? Luke was confident in his sexuality, and there was nothing wrong with being a girl anyway. It might even be fun.
***
And that right there was why she loved him. Not only because he was secure enough to challenge gender norms, but because he accepted her need to be her own person, even if her own person meant being unwilling to put herself in dresses that he liked. Maybe, just maybe, she'd surprise him one day by actually putting one on, just to reward him for being awesome.
She smiled and leaned in to kiss him, long and deep.
“Okay,” she said. “Give me your best-slash-worst vampire accent. We have to make this good for the kids.”
***
Summoning his knowledge of all the trashy horror movies he’d seen in his life (which was a ridiculously large number of them), he turned on her, letting out a cackle of evil sounding laughter.
“I am the cross-dressing count Lucula,” he said in a terrible, terrible yet utterly perfect accent. “I am here for your blooooooood…”
***
“Oh dear me!” Thalia cried, flinging one arm across her forehead dramatically. “I am powerless against your magnetic charm!”
The look she gave him was anything but helpless, though. It leaned very much on the side of inviting. “Have your wicked way with me, you magnificent creature of the night!”
Hey, she might not be willing to wear a dress, but she could play damsel in distress if it was the lead-up to hot sex.
***
Hot sex with Thalia was something that Luke would never say no to, no matter how frequent an occurrence it was...and it was. It was one of the really awesome things about their marriage, actually…
He went to her and with a melodramatic flourish, dipped her, leaning in to kiss her neck, nibbling a little. “Just a taste of your blood first, my darling…”
***
Thalia’s shiver had nothing to do with their playacting. He’d found a sensitive spot on her skin, and she felt her knees go weak with desire.
Wrapping her arms around his neck, she fell back onto the bed and took him with her. “What spell have you cast over me?” she said, still overplaying it. “I feel a strange desire to rip off my clothes!”
***
“It is said that Lucula has such power over damsels,” he said, then cackled again. “They cannot resist me, no matter how hard they try!”
He fell onto the bed with her.
“I think it must be how I ravishing I look in this dress…”
***
“You look ravishing in anything,” Thalia told him, keeping her arms around him. She smiled at him contentedly. This was all silly and in fun, but it was nice to come home to a hot husband who was willing to wear a dress because she didn’t want to. After all the problems and fights and difficulties they’d gone through, she appreciated moments like this.
“And…” she waggled her eyebrows meaningfully. “Out of it.”
***
It was true. They’d been through so very much together that it was wonderful to have a chance to just be...well…silly. So much of their lives had been ruled by life-altering tragedies and loss that these small, worry-free moments were infinitely precious.
“Are you trying to seduce me, my lady?” He asked in mock horror. “I fear that your charms may be stronger than my own.”
***
“I am simply overcome by your magnetic charisma,” Thalia said dramatically. “I can’t help myself.”
And with that, she leaned up and kissed him, long and hard. This pretty much made up for all the annoyances and irritations she had to deal with at the casino and its customers.
***
“That must be it,” he said, slipping back into his own voice as she kissed him. Hey, with a kiss like that, it was hard enough to keep words in his mind at all. He kissed her for a long time that way, but suddenly stopped.
“Think the kids at the Boy’s Club will like my costume?”
***
Thalia made a noise of protest when he stopped. It'd been going so well! But then he posed his question, and she grew serious as well.
“They'll probably make fun of you at first,” she said honestly. She propped herself up on an elbow to have his conversation. “But you know, it's probably a good way to talk about the fact that a real man can wear whatever he wants and be comfortable with it. And if their fathers complain, I'll beat them up and show them there's nothing wrong with dressing like a girl because girls are awesome.”
***
“Yeah, honestly, I never really got why that was such a big thing. I mean, girls dress like guys all the time. What’s wrong with a guy wanting to dress like a girl? Like you said, there’s nothing wrong with dressing like a girl. It’s this stupid macho thing, I guess. But I refuse to think that girls are bad or being like a girl’s a bad thing.”
He kissed her again, teasingly - sort of.
“But after all, I’m married. It’s not like I don’t like girls. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, either. Maybe it’s just the Greek side of me speaking.”
***
“Oh?” Now Thalia’s interest was piqued. Darcy had jokingly talked about girl on girl action once before, and at the time Thalia had been too new to sex to be comfortable with that, but she had a lot more experience now, and what Luke was suggesting sounded a lot more interesting.
“Does the Greek side of you want to do some exploring? Maybe with another hot guy? While I watch?”
***
Luke had never really been attracted to guys, but he’d never really thought about it, either. Her words gave him pause, though, and he considered the idea. It didn’t completely turn him off, which was...rather intriguing.
He looked up at her, raising an eyebrow.
“Would you like for it to?”
***
“Only if it wants to,” Thalia said, leaning in to kiss him. Sure, it would be incredibly hot to see him and another guy go at it, but she didn't want it so badly that she'd push him into something he would only be doing for her. That would put strain on their relationship that wouldn't even be worth it.
***
“I’ve never thought about it,” he said honestly. “But I’m not sure I’d be against it…” He was surprised how appealing the idea sounded, actually. He wasn’t sure if it was because it was a taboo thing, or if that was a part of him that he’d never actually considered before. He’d have to sleep on it.
“If it did want to, who would you have in mind?”
Because that selection was important, and if there was even the slightest chance of this happening, they were going to do every step of it together.
***
“I haven't thought about it either,” Thalia said, a little stunned that the conversation had taken this turn. She'd made her comment in jest, thinking he'd reject it out of hand, but here he was offering to make this fantasy a reality.
“Is there anyone…” she left it unspoken, because as brash and confident as she was, she was still a young woman who'd only ever had one partner. It was good they were talking about it, and without any of the usual yelling and throwing things that tended to accompany a Serious Topic, but it was still a step beyond what she could find proper words for.
***
“No,” he said simply. He’d never thought about it enough to actually have someone in mind. This was really the first time he’d thought of it at all so he’d need a little time to actually come up with names.
“But it’s something to think about, yeah? Nothing we have to decide on right away.”
***
“Totally,” Thalia agreed. Just the fact that Luke was even considering this was a step further than where Thalia was at the moment, so she'd need time to get used to the idea. And given their dicey history, it had to be someone they both trusted and agreed on. Thalia didn't doubt Luke’s love for her, but sometimes she still felt like they were an iron ship balanced on a mountain of eggshells. The ship itself was strong, but the smallest disturbance could send it tumbling down.
“In the meantime…”
She lay back on her elbows and gave him her best come-hither look.
“One man is more than enough for me.”
***
He grinned, finding himself helpless to resist that look, and joined her on the bed.
“I think I can find plenty of ways to convince you of that tonight…” He grinned and kissed her. No matter what they decided, it would never change the fact that she was the love of his life. She had been almost since he’d met her, and he believed that their love was set in the stars, no matter how corny that might sound.
