WHO: Thomas and OPEN WHAT: Getting shakes for Lydia and himself WHEN: After school Friday WHERE: Roger's Corner WARNINGS: TBD STATUS: Open/Ongoing
A year. A year in this place. It was hard to believe, but there was no denying the passage of time. At first, he'd come here resolved to get home. He wasn't going to get used to it. He'd been convinced that this place wasn't real, that it was little more than a distraction, and to get used to it was selfish, and simply a way to ignore and disrespect those who were still back home.
He didn't think that way anymore.
Or maybe he did, and that little feeling of guilt that felt lodged in his chest was the remnant of his past thoughts and beliefs.
Now, he was here for the long term. He wasn't leaving any time soon, even if he wanted to, and he'd gotten tired of never thinking beyond the next day. Not to mention, he'd fallen in love and found an amazing girl...and there was nothing like that for him back home. Could he be blamed for wanting to stay? Who didn't crave peace? And this place, while not perfect, was far more peaceful than home.
On his way home from school, he stopped by Roger's Corner to pick up some milkshakes to take to Lydia's. She was doing much better, but that didn't stop him from worrying about her. Or wanting to see her, which wasn't related to her injury at all. He ordered her favorite type, then sat on a stool at the counter, waiting for the guy to get a chance to make them. They were always busy after school, and Thomas wasn't in a hurry. It was Friday, after all, and he had the whole weekend in front of him.
