Who: Bruce Banner, Abby Maitland, & Natasha Romanoff
What: Dinner
Where: Bruce & Nat's house
When: Friday evening
Warnings: probably not
Status: closed/ongoing

Bruce was already planning to make a large Indian dinner when he saw Abby's post on the network about Connor being gone, so it seemed like the right thing to do to invite her over to join them. Having gone through the loss of his partner (twice), he knew that the best thing to do was keep busy and distracted. There was always a chance Connor would return, like Natasha had, but then again, he might not. Tony and Skye still hadn't and they'd both been gone for months.

Either way, he was happy to prepare plenty of food and there was a veritable feast ready by the time he heard a knock on the door. Natasha was upstairs changing her clothes, so he headed to the living room and opened the door, the heavy scent of Indian food wafting through the entire house as he did.

"Abby, please, come in," he said, offering her a supportive smile. "I'm glad you came over. Natasha will be down in a minute." He wasn't going to ask how she was because he figured he already knew the answer.

Abby smiled when Bruce greeted her. She had needed a break from Sid, Nancy and Rex -- and Rex's hovering around her because he was so attuned to her moods. She had tried to wait to see if Connor was coming back, but after two days with no sign of him, she was willing to admit that he was staying back home in their world.

When Bruce had invited her for dinner at his and Natasha's place, she had been relieved and happy. She liked Bruce and Connor had thought a great deal of him.

"Hello, Bruce, thank you for the invite."

Natasha hadn't minded at all, Bruce was a kind hearted man and knowing how it felt when your other half disappeared was something Bruce knew only too well unfortunately.

Having changed Natasha came down just as Abby entered their home, "You're welcome anytime you need a change of scenery" she smiled in greeting.

"Our home is always open for our friends," Bruce added, resisting the urge to wrap his arm around Natasha's waist when she joined them. They weren't typically affectionate in front of others anyway, but he especially didn't want to make Abby feel bad.

He led both ladies to the dining room so they could get comfortable before he served the food. "And we still need to get you down to the lab one of these days."

Abby could feel herself relaxing even more as she smiled at both Natasha and Bruce. This had definitely been something that she needed.

"Thank you, Natasha, Bruce. I appreciate the invitation." She nodded at Bruce while he served the food. "We do. I now have a pretty normal schedule with my job so we can make arrangements whenever you have time."

"Oh dear, I'm going to have to keep an eye on the both of you aren't I? Once you get started in that lab time will go out of the window and you'll forget food and everything" she teased, appreciating the food Bruce had prepared as always.

Bruce couldn't help but laugh at Natasha's teasing because it was very accurate. There had been more than one occasion where she practically had to drag him out of the lab because he lost track of time while working on something, though he tried hard not to get that caught up in things.

"What job did you get, Abby?" Bruce asked, side stepping Nat's question as he started carrying platters of food from the kitchen to the dining room.

Abby grinned. "I can't promise that it won't happen at some point?" Abby offered. She knew what she was like when she got wrapped up in a project. There had been times back home when someone at the ARC or Rex would have to get her attention and pull her away from what she was working on.

"I'm working as a trainer at Anytime Fitness."

"Don't worry I'll rescue both of you" Natasha assured Abby, because she was no doubt exactly like Bruce when she was focused. It was a trait Natasha found rather endearing.

"Ah my competition" she chuckled, "I'm at Fight Science" she added in explanation, talking about the other gym in town which specialised in martial arts.

Once all the food was on the table, Bruce nodded for Abby to serve herself first. "I feel like I might be in trouble here," he joked. "If I step out of line, the two of you could kick my ass."

As Bruce Banner, he really didn't have much of a defense system. The Other Guy was a different story.
