Mason tried to keep his life back home separate from the life he was building with Jordan, but there were some days that he couldn't ignore. Like the day that his first wife died. He had made peace with Rebecca's death even before he'd come to Madison Valley, but it was still an emotional trigger for him, because how could it be anything but an emotional trigger? He'd married her with the intention of growing old together, and she'd been taken from him by the unnatural force of an alien invasion.
So he'd suggested date night for Jordan and himself. They'd had dinner at one of the nicer restaurants in town, and now that the sun was slowly settling, they were taking a leisurely walk down by the river. Mason had an arm around Jordan's shoulders as they walked.
"It's kind of hard to believe we've been married almost two months," he told her. Because while that wasn't a long time by any stretch, it was amazing to him that they were married at all, that she had agreed to marry him and be his wife.
