Even though they were as prepared as possible for Ash's September illness, Katniss was wary of being gone from the house for too long. That meant she was making shorter, but more frequent trips out into the woods to hunt for game both to sell to the Musain and for them to prepare at home. She trusted that he would keep his promise and be cautious about going too far from the house once he started to feel ill, but she wanted to be there for him as much as she could.
Today she was on her second trip out to the woods. Earlier, she'd scored a nice bounty of rabbits and turkeys that she took the Musain, so anything she caught this afternoon would go to stock the freezer at home. She was hoping for a deer because that meat would last them quite some time.
She had her sights set on a buck and was lifting her bow to take aim when she heard soft footfalls nearby. Not wanting to risk accidentally shooting a person, she lowered the bow and looked for the source of the noise.
