Jeremy was dead.
The pain that made her chest tight was almost as bad as when she'd been staked. Except this wasn't going to have an end to it. It wasn't going to go away. Ever. She wasn't going to just find a way to move on from it. Her mom was gone, and Anna didn't know if she'd ever be reunited with her again. Maybe if they found a way to send her back, but barring that, she was trapped in this town where the Council was actively seeking out people who were different. Even if those people hadn't harmed anyone. But Jeremy? Jeremy was dead. She'd never see him again, be it in this life or the after life, because no way would Jeremy just linger like she had. He would move on to better things, and for that she was glad.
But the thought of not ever seeing him again was beyond any pain she'd felt before. And she'd felt a lot of pain in her life, both physical and emotional.
Elena had hesitated to tell her. She hadn't wanted to hurt Anna, which might have thrown her if it had been anyone else. But Elena Gilbert had never struck her as being a mean person, whether or not she was a vampire. And she could only imagine that Elena was feeling pain similar to her own. How long ago had Jeremy died? she wondered, feeling dazed as she made her way toward Elena's apartment.
If only Anna had killed Katherine when she'd had the chance. Jeremy would still be alive. By the time she reached the door, she was crying, but she reached up, rubbing her face and trying to hide it before she knocked, waiting for Elena to answer.
