We weren't either, before the Rising happened. But I know what you mean: I feel the same way about my own world. There might be zombies, and other bad things, but it's not as backwards as most of these places people come from.
It's good to stop and think. Your father told you exactly right. Are people in your time immortal, then? Because otherwise 'ask Yagai' isn't going to work after a certain time span. But yes, always stop and think, and it's good to decide things for yourself after doing your best to gather information. Sometimes people will come to different conclusions and that's why it's important to not only be able to justify your position but also know what's worth fighting over.
That's very right that having the dog is bad or stupid. You wouldn't do those things because you're not stupid. But some people are stupid, and should people be able to make stupid decisions that have a high likelihood of impacting whether innocent people around them can pursue happiness? I tend to think people should be able to make whatever decisions they want if they're making them for themselves. If you want to go play with zombie moose, I'm not going to cry when you get eaten or waste time trying to get that forbidden. That's just Darwinism in action. If you take your kid, or your bring the moose to town, we're going to have a problem.
I publish pieces that are good and informative, the political leanings of my reporters notwithstanding. I also know and have accepted pieces from people with viewpoints similar to your society's.
As for Jake, I was trying to ask him for some information. I don't write pieces to take anyone's side, I write them to tell the truth. Of course, to do that, I have to find out what the truth is first. But yes, I'm bothered that they arrested him, privately.
Our internet started in universities as well. I think it's just that people are quite silly. Why wouldn't people put silly things on the internet? It's easy enough, if annoying.
