Cassie could feel the pain from hitting the car and the ground coming awake in her body, but she pushed it away. Her pain wasn't important right at this moment. She shifted, looking at the woman as she checked her over to see if she was injured in any way from the fall. She shifted, putting her weight on the side that hadn't hit the car.
"I couldn't just stand there and let you be killed," Cassie said gently. "That car didn't have enough time to stop when he saw you in the street."
The driver of the car had come up to them by that time. "Are you guys all right? I swear, I didn't see her."
"It wasn't your fault," Cassie assured the man, looking up at him and managing to smile. "We're all right. I'll take care of her."
After the crowd started to back away, Cassie shook her head at the woman she had just saved. "I don't know what was happening in your life, but being killed by a car is so not the answer," she said softly.
